Ski resorts and villages in the counties of Imathia, Florina, Kozani, and Grevena as well as other locales in the central and northern parts of the country saw extensive snowfall, particularly during the early morning hours of Wednesday.
The ski resort of 3-5 Pigadia in Naoussa received more than 40 centimeters (16 inches) of snow, with even larger amounts of snow being seen in the high altitudes around Florina, West Macedonia.
Ward 9 councillor Mozitha Moyo confirmed the incident which occurred in his area on Friday afternoon. He said Mr Jeconia Nyathi from Lushongwe Village was left with a herd of 26 cattle after disaster struck.
"There is a farmer from my ward, Mr Jeconia Nyathi who lost 10 head of cattle and two goats after they were struck by lightning. Mr Nyathi had just finished giving his animals stock feed just outside his homestead. As he turned to leave just as it was about to rain, lightning struck and killed his animals as he looked on in disbelief.

More than 100mm of rain in just over an hour was dumped on the Queensland capital on Wednesday night.
Brisbane recorded one of its highest 24-hour rainfall total in two decades, the amount equivalent to what Brisbane had seen in the previous six months.
The Bureau of Meteorology described the wild weather as a very dangerous storm with extremely intense rainfall.
Up to 3,000 lightning strikes recorded in the state's south-east.
East Brisbane recorded 135mm while the CBD weather station received 130.4mm.
Almost 2,000 homes lost power during the freak storm, with 400 still in a blackout on Wednesday morning, according to Energex.
Belna blew into the western town of Soalala, where more than 1,400 residents were made homeless because their houses were destroyed, damaged or flooded, Col Elack Olivier Andriakaja of the national catastrophe management office, said Tuesday.
Those displaced have found temporary shelter in primary schools, mosques and district offices but they need food, Andriakaja said.
Many government administrative buildings and roads have also been damaged, he said.
Emergency food rations will be delivered to Soalala by sea, said officials.
Aquatic experts stated that the temperatures which have been around 18C in the area are highly unusual for the fish and have caused a mass die-off.
Local fisherman stated to the media that if the cold weather continues for an extended period of time it could have serious effects on their livelihoods.
For now, the current cold snap is expected to last at least through Tuesday.
As reported, roads virtually all over the country are still closed. Despite repeated warnings yesterday that travel should be avoided entirely, some people apparently could not help themselves. RÚV reports that a moving truck was amongst the vehicles that had to be unstuck from blizzard conditions on the road in North Iceland. In fact, there is an avalanche warning for the Westfjords—a region that already is susceptible to them during any given winter.

It happened when a road next to a building site in Brasilia partially collapsed. The cars that fell into the sinkhole had been parked on the street, and there were no injuries, officials said.
Authorities are investigating the cause.

Hundreds of birds have been found dead in the road in Anglesey .
The starlings were spotted near Llyn Llywenan, Bodedern, by Hannah Stevens on her way home on Tuesday.
Miss Stevens said she had initially seen the "massive flock" flying overhead before landing and appearing to eat something in the road.

According to a report by AP, the air pollution in some parts of the city was 11 times worse than a 200 reading on the Air Quality Index, the threshold considered "hazardous," due to fine particulate matter being released by the burning fires. Fine particulate matter consists of microscopic solids and liquid droplets in the air that can be inhaled and even absorbed by the bloodstream.
