Surface activity has been subdued the past week at Popocatepetl (Mexico) with an average of only one exhalation per hour the past few days, versus 3-4 per hour during periods the past month. Tremor is barely visible on the Popo seismogram this morning. A software "glitch is producing the repeating pattern from 20 UTC onward.
In Guatemala, volcanic tremor is elevated this morning at Fuego volcano. Perhaps we will see another outburst similar to those affecting the volcano through most of this spring and summer in the near future. (station FG3)
At nearby Santa Maria volcano, seismic signals indicative of small explosions and/or pyroclastic flows are visible on station STG3 this morning.
Satellite imagery this morning shows weak plumes of SO2 eminating from Masaya volcano (Nicaragua) and a slightly stronger one over Rincon De La Vieja volcano (Costa Rica).
Weak volcanic tremor is apparent on the Masaya seismogram, but it is not any stronger than "normal" tremor levels at the volcano. (station MASN)
The National Weather Service says a twister with winds of 80 mph touched down Thursday afternoon near Coudersport, Potter County.
Later that night, authorities say a woman was killed by a falling tree. The Potter County coroner says 66-year-old Linda Button died in Genesee Township, about 150 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
First Energy Corp. reports that about 24,000 customers in western and northern Pennsylvania still were without power Friday night. Numbers had been much higher earlier in the day.
The high winds tore the roof off a volunteer fire hall in Butler County. In Cambria County, WJAC-TV in Johnstown had its Thursday evening newscast knocked off the air by lightning.
The officials said the quake was of "moderate" intensity and all major towns in the region felt the tremor.
Earlier this month, tremor having a magnitude of 5.4 and 5.5 on the Richter Scale hit the region with their epicentres located in Phek and Nagaland region of Nagaland respectively.
Sunday's tremor was also felt in Itanagar, Guwahati, Agartala besides Kohima and Imphal.
Police said there was no report of any casualty or damage to property in Meghalaya.
The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported Saturday that more than 5,000 homes were destroyed or damaged and nearly 63,000 people were left homeless by flooding that began on July 18. About 4,800 hectares of cropland were washed away when typhoon Khanun swept through North Korea on July 23 and 24.
The KCNA warned of more heavy rains on Sunday and Monday.
A recent U.N. report said that two-thirds of North Korea's 24 million people face chronic food shortages. Analysts say the latest flooding could make matters worse, since it came on the tail-end of a drought.

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea: An earthquake of magnitude 6.6 hit off the coast of Papua New Guinea early Sunday, the US Geological Survey said.
The magnitude 6.6 quake struck 19 miles south-southeast of Taron, Papua New Guinea at a depth of more than 40 miles about 6:04 a.m. Sunday (10:04 a.m. Saturday, Hawaii time), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach said that while no Pacific-wide tsunami was generated, earthquakes of this size can produce locally destructive tsunamis near the epicenter.
Dozens of families have been evacuated in the southern province of Maguindanao because of heavy flooding caused by torrential rains from Cyclone Saola.
A passenger ship ran aground in the central province of Cebu, but the nearly 200 passengers and crew have been rescued.
Rains have blanketed most of the Philippines over the weekend, forcing the cancellation of at least thirteen domestic flights on Sunday.
With winds of up to 100 kilometres an hour, Cyclone Soala is now moving north-west towards Taiwan and China.
A total of 29 wildfires covering an area of more than 5,000 hectares were localized, and 14,948 hectares of forest continued to burn in the Krasnoyarsk Krai, Tomsk Region, Tuva, Khakassia and Irkutsk Region.
Some 3,000 people, 412 units of fire-fighting equipment and 24 aircrafts have been mobilized to fight the blazes, which are believed to be caused by hot and dry weather in the region where the temperature reaches 35 degrees.
Reports said the wildfires posed no threat to populated areas or industry.
