The Golden Gate National Park Service on Friday closed San Francisco's Aquatic Park to swimmers after a second sea lion attack.

Fire officials told the public to avoid the area after a second sea lion reportedly attacked a swimmer in the park's waters. Swimmers are forbidden from entering the water at least through Monday "due to multiple marine animal bites," a sign at the scene read.

Multiple public safety agencies are working together with the NPS - the lead agency - on a safety plan, SFFD said.

Fire officials tweeted around 9 a.m. Friday that a 60-year-old man was taken to a trauma center after reportedly being bitten by a sea lion on his arm.

SFFD said in a tweet: "Avoid the area, swim at your own risk at Aquatic Park."

Woman mauled to death by her pit bull terriers in Goochland County, Virginia

PIT BULL ATTACK
Bethany Lynn Stephens, a 22-year-old Glen Allen woman found dead in the woods off Manakin Road Thursday night, was mauled to death by her dogs, Goochland County Sheriff James Agnew said.

Stephens' father called 911 Thursday, at about 8:18 p.m., when he went looking for his daughter in an area of Goochland where she often walked her dogs.

He discovered her dogs in the woods, and he told the sheriff's office the dogs appeared to be "guarding" Bethany's body.

Sheriff's deputies arrived and spent 60 to 90 minutes attempted to catch the dogs -- which the sheriff described as pit bull dogs.

Bethany's body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office.

A rare sight is being described as something of a miracle for one Waiheke Island resident.

Jesse Rudolph says he and his colleagues were some of the lucky few who witnessed a waterspout off Rakino.

"I hadn't seen one before, put it that way."

He says the team were working at site when he spotted the water spout over the water.

Strange sound Alhambra CA 4:30 am Dec 7. 2017. Sounded like an air raid siren. I've lived in Alhambra for 31 years and have never heard anything like this before

Comment: The sounds in Alhambra were recorded by another YouTube user, TOS Underground. He notes that the noise occurred in same time as the above user.

12/7/2017 Around 4:30 maybe little earlier I was woken by my wife to this strange siren sound... in Alhambra California. Lasted I would say 5-8 min long.

This time the sounds are different. It was really difficult to capture them since the noise from the highway was too loud, so I captured them in a few videos. It started at around 3:30 am, the videos were captured at around 4:00 am, the sounds stop and return as you can tell in some of the videos.

The Galiyat region received first heavy snowfall of the season that left roads blocked, tourists stranded and schools closed.

Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) was making its all-out efforts to clear the roads, spokesman of the GDA said while talking to media.

Clouds dumped over three feet of snow covering the resort towns with a white sheet. As persistently as the snowfall every year, the authorities were stupefied in managing the situation. Roadblocks, power breakdowns and severed supplies continue to dog the mountain communities.

Owing to precarious weather, Abbottabad DC Aurangzab Haider ordered closure of all public sector schools in nine union councils till December 16. These union councils include Beeran Gali, Seer Gharbi, Seer Sharqi, Tajwal, Nathiagali, Nambli Mara, Patan Kalan, Plakh and Nagri Bala.

Dead trees in California: 27 million more killed in past year

trees
Scientists and pilots in aircraft equipped with cameras and sensors have updated the number of dead trees they believe are standing today in California forests.

There are now about 129 million dead trees on 8.9 million acres in the Golden State, up from estimates of more than 102 million dead trees statewide a year ago, federal Forest Service people based in Vallejo said Monday.

Aerial surveys this year show an additional 27 million trees, mostly conifers, have died in California since November 2016.

Tuolumne and Calaveras counties remain listed among the 10 counties most impacted by tree mortality statewide, Ginessa Stark with the Forest Service said Monday. The other eight counties listed north to south are Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Mariposa, Madera, Fresno, Tulare and Kern. These are the same 10 counties identified as most impacted a year ago.

Cleveland volcano explosion recorded with ash to 20,000 ft altitude in Aleutian Islands, Alaska

Cleveland Volcano on July 25, 2016
The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) raised the aviation alert level of the volcano back to orange after an explosion was detected from the volcano this morning 04:20 AKST local time (13:20 UTC).

Today's eruption was detected in seismic and infrasound data, and an ash plume was observed in satellite data to an altitude of up to 20,000 ft asl and moving to the east.

Earlier today, AVO had briefly lowered the alert level to yellow, as only weak signs of activity had been detected during recent weeks and it was assumed that effusive activity in the summit crater had ceased. This might have been the case, actually, while at the same time a new phase of activity could have started today.
