Lightning bolt kills 2, injures 13 in Nepal

Two persons died whereas 13 others were injured in a lightning strike in Dang of Lumbini on Tuesday night.

All the victims and injured were watching a local musical show organised on the occasion of the annual Teej festival when the lightning struck them at around 11 pm yesterday.

The victims have been identified as Deepa Gharti (16) and Monisa Sah (19), residents of Gurau, Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city-12 of the district.

DSP Rajan Kumar Gautam of the District Police Office says 11 others have sustained minor injuries.

Details of the case are awaited.

Just on Monday, three persons died of a lightning strike in Rautahat.

Lightning strike kills 3 in Rautahat, Nepal

Three persons died in a lightning strike in the Rautahat district of southern Nepal on Tuesday morning.

Manisha Kumari (18), Sudamiya Devi (39), and Jagiya Kumari (17) were working in the field of Saroj Sahani in the Garuda municipality-3 of the district, according to the local police office.

Saheli Devi Sahani (40), who was also working in the paddy field during the time of the strike, is injured and undergoing treatment at a local health facility, according to police.

Comment: On the same day a bolt killed 2 brothers and injured a third in Bangladesh.

The carcass was first reported floating offshore at around 3 p.m.

The Marine Mammal Center's necropsy team is working to find out more about the whale, including cause of death. Officials said whether a necropsy happens this week, it will depend on the tides.

The man found dead on a sidewalk in the capital over the weekend may have been attacked by dogs, according to police.

Officers found a man believed to be in his late 50s to early 60s lying on the sidewalk on the southern side of Palm Tree Avenue around 4:00 am on Saturday.

The victim's body reportedly had severe injuries to his lower extremities that appear to be consistent with bite marks.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said: "Police are actively investigating and encouraging members of the public who have overly aggressive or uncontrollable dogs that they cannot restrain in aggressive situations or circumstances, consistently bark, are always agitated, fight, create disturbances with other animals, or try to attack people, to ensure their yards are properly secured and enclosed to prevent their animals escaping.

At least 6 people have lost their lives after torrential rains caused floods and landslides across parts of Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone.

The fatalities occurred when a mudslide destroyed two adjacent homes in an informal settlement in Looking Town, situated on a steep slope in the hills above the neighbourhood of Kissy.

Freetown Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, visited areas affected by the heavy rains. "My heart goes out to the families of the six people who died in the mudslide at Looking Town today," the mayor said.
