Record rainfall in Mount Abu
Incessant rains since July 21 night have virtually cut off Mount Abu from Gujarat with the hill station plundered by as much as 110 inches rainfall in just four days.

This is the highest rainfall received in Mount Abu in the last several decades.

Heavy rains sent rocks hurtling down near Aana Hanuman, 6 km from the entry toll booth. But the local authorities are confident of clearing them in a few hours.

While there has been no major casualty in Abu, the Internet broadband connectivity of BSNL and other private telecom operators has been badly hit. Vodafone and Airtel have managed to partially restore the services but BSNL services remained hampered.

Residents of Temple, Greenville and New Ipswich say they heard and felt a loud explosion Wednesday night around 9 p.m., according to interviews and messages on social media.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's office confirmed officers were dispatched to Greenbriar Road in New Ipswich at 9:01 p.m., but they said "nothing was found." It is not known what caused the explosion.

Samanta Febonio posted a comment on Facebook that read, "What in God's name is that explosion? I'm terrified."

In a message to the Ledger-Transcript, Febonio said she lives on Main Street. She said she heard a loud blast and felt a boom that shook her entire house a few minutes before 9 p.m. She said she didn't see a flash of light.

Comment: The explosion was also reportedly heard 20 miles away in Antrim, NH.

What is that sound? At 03:50 the first sound - not the car alarm - =) and at 05:15 the sound is heard more clearly.

My daughter Frida has recorded the movie. My voice is also heard in the background, she woke me up. I had never heard of anything like before.

The birds silence under the sound and a car alarm goes on, and you feel clear vibration of the sound waves.

At least 10,000 people were forced to leave the beach at Bormes-les-Mimosas on Tuesday night.
New fires keep breaking out in the south of France and in central Portugal as tourists flee in the thousands.

Firefighters, who have now been battling the flames for four days in France, said that while they were getting the inferno under control, new blazes keep breaking out.

The situation is also said to be improving slightly in central Portugal, where fires raged across large areas of tinder-dry forest on Wednesday.

But the blazes in the country have already left more than 60 people dead.

Fish of a species found only in the deepest depths of the sea are popping up around Gangneung in Gangwon Province. As strange as the discoveries themselves, the appearance of the fish is causing a certain degree of fear and consternation among the public.

Social media platforms are abuzz with frantic discussions as to whether the emergence of the fish is a sign of impending earthquakes or tsunamis.

On July 23, a photo of a dead oarfish that had washed up onto Anmok Beach spread like wildfire through social media.

The day before, photos of two oarfish captured at Anmok Beach were also shared on social media. With over 500 comments, the posts attracted considerable attention from social media users.

Locals look for survivors after a landslide hit a building in Lighthouse Para of Cox's Bazar early yesterday. Two people were killed and two others injured in the incident.
Two children were among five people killed after heavy rains triggered a mudslide in southeastern Bangladesh yesterday, officials said.

Five others were also injured in two separate incidents in Cox's Bazar district, said Abdul Malek, deputy assistant director of the district's fire service and civil defence.

The incidents took place at around 3am (2100 GMT Monday). Four were buried by a mass of mud, while the fifth victim died when a wall collapsed on her, Malek said.

The coastal district of Cox's Bazar has received some 20cm of rain in the last 24 hours.

Landslides have been occurring in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, combining three hilly districts of Bangladesh including Cox's Bazar since June.

Officials say incidences of landslides continue to strike unabated as people live in dangerous conditions due to lack of relief and rehabilitation policies.

4-year-old boy killed at home by pack of 4 dogs in El Paso, Texas

Police identified the 4-year-old boy mauled and killed by a pack of dogs as Jacob Brooks.

"The child had been left by his mother in an enclosed trampoline in the backyard where there were four dogs," police said in a news release.

It happened Thursday evening at a home on the 9100 block of Morelia in El Paso's lower valley. Police confirmed the boy was found dead at the scene.

Investigators told ABC-7 the four dogs belong to the homeowner and the boy lived at the home. "The child's mother was placed into protective custody and turned over to medical professionals at medical facility," police said.

ABC-7 spoke with a neighbor who said he witnessed the attack and his own brother tried to jump the fence to help the little boy.

An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale rocked İran's Nahavan city, Hamadan Province, on Friday, state TV IRIB reported.

According to the seismological center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 05:34 hours local time (01:04 GMT) on the depth of 2 kilometers.

According to the Mehr news agency, the latest official reports confirms that at least 10 people were injured.

Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth's crust and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.

This terrifying photo shows the damage a freak storm in Istanbul inflicted on a passenger plane on a Turkish airlines jet bound for the city.

At least ten people were injured - two of them seriously - when a violent thunderstorm struck Istanbul, bombarding the city with hailstones the size of golf balls and submerging much of the city in knee-deep water.

The unforgiving winds, rain and hail appear to have worn away the paint on the Turkish Airline jet's nose, with cracks visible on the pilots' window.

The plane was forced to make an emergency landing in the Aegean city of Canakkale, around 170 miles flight from Istanbul which endured the worst of the freak storm.
