A high-altitude search and rescue team recovered the bodies of three French climbers buried under two metres of snow, days after they had gone missing on the slope of a mountain hit by an avalanche in the Everest region.

Inspector Rishi Raj Dhakal, chief of the Solukhumbu district police office, told the Post that the search team had located the bodies on Sunday. The bodies, however, were retrieved on Monday and airlifted to Kathmandu for postmortem, he said.

The three climbers—Thomas Arfi, Gabriel Miloche and Louis Pachoud—were reported missing on October 31. According to reports, they had last made contact on October 26 via satellite phone from their camp.

An elderly man reportedly died after being attacked by two pit bull terriers in Goedemoed in Durbanville at 13:00 on Friday.

WHAT LED TO THE FATAL ATTACK?

According to a report by the TygerBurger Durbanville police spokesperson Captain Marchell Rhode said the dogs escaped from their yard in Hadeda street.

While it is unclear how the dogs got out, police reportedly said the lock on the gate where the pit bull terriers were kept was broken.

The dogs then ran down the street before jumping against a gate further down the same street, forcing it open before attacking two smaller dogs inside that yard.

The climate phenomenon known as La Niña brought early snow amid plunging temperatures across northern China on the weekend as the country struggles with the worst energy crisis in a decade.

Large parts of the country, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and Inner Mongolia, experienced this winter's first significant snowfall and rain on Saturday, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said in a notice on Sunday.

The national weather service said northeastern provinces were likely to experience major snowfalls in the coming days, and the cold waves would continue to move southwards and hit most of China.

Italy’s wine production dropped by nine percent in 2021.
Italian wine production dropped by nine percent in 2021, new figures show, as winemakers across the country continue to suffer the effects of extreme weather.

According to the latest preliminary figures published by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and shared by the agricultural association Coldiretti, global wine production is set to drop to 250.3 million hectoliters in 2021, seven percent below the average for the past 20 years.

This is the third consecutive year that the world's total wine production will fall below average levels, highlights Coldiretti, with the 2021 harvest just above an all-time low of 2017.

The OIV shared its data at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, where world leaders are currently meeting to discuss strategies to combat the effects of the climate crisis.

The formation of intermittent fog, which lasted for 7 hours started at 1am until 9am on Razeen in Abu Dhabi, Madinat Zayed, Hameem, Bida and Dafas in the Al Dhafra, and on various parts of the country.

People woke up to cloudy skies, with the ground covered in hail in some areas.

Unusual natural events have been common for Spain this year. Authorities continue to keep an eye on a volcanic eruption on La Palma, one of the Canary Islands, which began on September 19. Massive lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano has destroyed more than 2,500 buildings.
