Kerala, which is been hit by incessant rainfall, witnessed 24 landslides in the last 24 hours spiking the death toll to 22 on August 9, 2019. Nearly 22,165 people have been shifted to relief camps.

Heavy rains have been battering the coastal state since August 7 and have thrown normal life out of gear. This is after the 2018 floods — the worst in the state's history — that killed nearly 500 people and incurred a loss of Rs 31,000 crore worth damages.

Of the 14 districts in Kerala, nine in the north have been put on red alert; three in central on orange alert, while two in south on yellow alert.

Across the state, 315 flood relief camps have been opened, according to an update from Kerala chief minister's office.

The video elicited a mixed reaction from social media users, with people wondering whether it was some kind of elaborate optical illusion or merely a hoax.

A strange sight was recently observed near Hongze Lake in China when a whole row of buildings was seen seemingly hovering over the water's surface on the horizon. The sighting was captured on camera by onlookers.

A video subsequently uploaded on YouTube by the People's Daily channel shows what appears to be "a mirage of traditional Chinese buildings," according to the description, along with a working wind turbine.

Comment: This isn't the first suspected instance of Fata Morgana in China:

At 5:30 am a 6.0 earthquake hit off the Taiwan coast under a stratavolcano beneath Turtle Island (GuiShan Island). Interestingly that seemed to signal an underwater volcanic eruption at the same time Typhoon Lekima neared the island. Is it an Earth - Sun electrical connection? The Ionosphere Map shows nothing unusual but when three typhoons form over the western Pacific and earthquakes are popping off all over the place at he the same time perhaps we should look to the electromagnetic coupling between the Sun and Earth for causation. Check out the Disaster Prediction App.

Climate Revolution is a 'Must Read' for understanding our Sun driven climate as we progress deeper into the new Eddy Grand Solar Minimum. Weather extremes leading to Global food scarcity and high food prices are here now, and this book describes the expected changes, how to survive & thrive during future challenging times with practical preparations.

Floods brought by heavy rains and overflowing rivers across large swathes of western and southern India have killed at least 33 people and forced the evacuation of 180,000 from their homes, officials said on Thursday (Aug 8).

Seasonal monsoon rains from June to September cause deaths and mass displacement across South Asia every year, but they deliver more than 70 per cent of India's rainfall, crucial for farm output and economic growth.

The tally of dead in the floods was 25 in the western state of Maharashtra by Thursday, officials said, while government data in the neighbouring southern state of Karnataka showed eight dead.

'Mystery illness' strikes Dutch wild boar

The boar are popular with visitors
As many as 70 wild boar have died of an unexplained illness at a nature reserve in the eastern Netherlands.

Only about 20 boar die of disease in the Hoge Veluwe reserve annually, but the figure so far this year is more than triple that, the Omroep Gelderland public broadcaster reports.

Erik Koffeman of the Gelderland Wildlife Management Department says the death rate is "unprecedented - experts have never seen anything like this before".

Wild boar are allowed to live in only a few parts of the country, in case they cause damage or disrupt traffic, and the Hoge Veluwe reserve alone has a population of more than 6,000, according to the local De Stentor newspaper.
