The fruit and almond productions have been the most affected by the frosts and hailstorms recorded in recent days in practically the whole Iberian Peninsula, according to Agroseguro.

The first estimates point to more than 12,200 hectares of crops being hit.
The frosts have caused the most damages. More than 6,000 hectares of almonds have been affected, especially in the province of Albacete, which accounts for more than half of the affected acreage. Meanwhile, 4,000 hectares of fruit trees have also been damaged, especially in the Region of Murcia, due to the low temperatures registered since the early morning of March 27. Frosts have also caused damage to fruit crops in Albacete, Zaragoza, the Region of Valencia, Navarre and La Rioja.

Weather watchers across Spain were treated to several spectacular waterspouts on the mainland and in the Balearic Islands at the weekend.

Several amazing videos were shared on the WeatherMeteoWorld Facebook page that features'severe weather updates' for 'storm chasers, forecasters and hurricane chasers across the globe.'

The unusual weather phenomenon was captured on video in Barcelona and also on the islands of Menorca and Mallorca.

A huge waterspout was spotted off the coast of Puerto Rico.

Sucking up moisture and circulating air in the same way as a terrestrial tornado, waterspouts have been known to lift up small vessels and throw containers off ships.

According to local media reports, no one was harmed by the waterspout.

Elderly woman dead after dog attack in South Korea

A resident of a senior care center in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, died, Wednesday, after being mauled by a dog owned by the center director, according to local police.

The owner is now facing criminal charges for negligent homicide and violation of the Animal Protection Law.

Anseong Police Station said the 62-year-old woman, who was taking a stroll around the center, was attacked by a Tosa dog on Wednesday morning, causing injuries to her chest and buttocks. She was taken to the hospital but died five hours later.

The victim had lived at the nursing center for years.

Strong explosive activity continues today, April 10 at Kamchatka volcano (Shiveluch), Russia.

Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned of a large volcanic ash plume rising to 33,000 feet (10.1km), or flight level 330, and moving 45 kts to the south.

Particulates ejected to altitudes above 32,800 feet (10km), and into the stratosphere, have a direct cooling effect on the planet.

The KVERT observatory warns that ash explosions of up to 49,200 feet a.s.l. could occur at any time.

This unstable stratovolcano, with a recent eruptive history littered with VEI 4s and 5s, has seen a tremendous uptick in activity so far in 2019.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck east of Japan's island of Honshu on Thursday, the United States Geological Service said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake, which struck 174 km (108 miles) east of the city of Hachinohe, at a depth of 27 km (17 miles), the USGS added.

A storm chaser has captured stunning slow-motion footage of rarely-seen upside down lightning. Filmed across the three states of Texas, Oklahoma and Illinois over the course of one month, Dan Robinson's video captures bolts of lightning as they blast upwards from the centre of the sky.


Comment: Last month an anomalous lightning storm hit Southern California producing more than 1,200 bursts in five minutes. In December 2018 the sky over New York City lit up with mysterious blue light.

A powerful storm coupled with heavy winds struck northwest Pakistan killing at least eight persons and injuring 54 others, a disaster management official said Wednesday. According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), three persons were killed in Peshawar, two in Swabi and one each in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.provinceand Mohmand districts.

Fifty-four people were injured in the storm due to collapse of trees and houses that struck Pakistanon Tuesday. Many houses were also damaged due to the storms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.province, the PDMA spokesman said. On February 22, at least 10 people were killed across the province and dozens injured in rain and snow-related incidents.

Nature was showing its fickle side on Wednesday, with blizzard conditions, heavy snow and frigid air pounding parts of the Rockies and the Plains, just a day after the weather was sunny and idyllic. Schools and highways were shut down, hundreds of flights were canceled, and some communities braced for floods.

The storm, caused by a low-pressure system moving east from the Pacific Ocean, dropped temperatures by up to 50 degrees in places like Denver, where it was sunny and in the mid-70s on Tuesday but reached the mid-20s by Wednesday night. The low-pressure system was affecting areas from Colorado to Michigan, with heavy snow and thunderstorms, and even down into Texas, where dry conditions and high winds led to wildfire warnings.

While the whipsawing forecasts drew groans, they did not come as much of a surprise to those familiar with springtime in the Plains and the Rockies.

Torrential rains doused Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, killing at least three people and sowing chaos in Brazil's second largest city, which declared a state of emergency after a storm the mayor described as "absolutely abnormal."

Two adult sisters died when their home in a slum was buried in a mudslide, while a man drowned in another part of the city, the mayor's office said in a statement.

The rains began around Monday evening and had not let up by midday Tuesday, with a heavy downpour forecast through the end of the day. Some parts of the city got more than 21 cm (8 inches of rain within four hours, according to the mayor's office. That is three times the monthly average rainfall for April.
