The Lahaul valley is under the threat of avalanches once again, following three days of heavy snowfall.

Chandra valley in Lahaul has been the most affected by snowfall. Koksar village has received over 75cm of fresh snow and Sissu 60cm of snow. There are reports of small avalanches in some area. The entire area between Tandi and Koksar is prone to avalanches.

All roads in the valley have been blocked again. Bus service on all major routes of the valley, which had resumed after three months on March 9, has again been stopped as snow blocked all roads.

Snowfall total exceeds one-foot in many areas of Montana

The storm is exactly what they said it would be: snow accumulations of up to a foot, drifting snow making highway travel hazardous and subfreezing temperatures putting a strain on livestock producers.
In other words a typical spring storm in Montana.

"Last night was pretty much an every hour, hour-and-a-half check because they wouldn't have lasted through too long out there in that wind," said Dana Darlington, a Stanford area rancher describing the effort it took to keep his newborn calves alive.

"We got about five-, six-inches of snow and about a 40-mile-per-hour east wind all night long, so it was pretty tough," he said. " We had some calves in a new windbreak, and we thought that would be the answer, but it was swirling around so hard that they were pretty iced up this morning."

Call it a serious snow dump.

After a prolonged period of mostly dry conditions, the Tahoe Basin finally reported impressive 24-hour snowfall totals Sunday morning: As of 8:30 a.m., Squaw Valley had recorded 18 inches at its based and up to 30 inches at its highest peaks. Tahoe City measured 23 inches, Homewood 33 and Incline Village 22.

Truckee Resident Neil Lareau recorded 38 inches in the mountain town and shared an image on Twitter of a ruler measuring the snowfall.

Russia's capital has so far avoided a coronavirus death, but its more traditional foe, the weather, caused havoc on Friday with strong winds up to 25m/s, killing at least one man and hospitalizing others.

Speaking to news agency RIA Novosti, a spokesman for the emergency services said that a driver died in the east of Moscow after wind caused a tree to fall on the car. Other reports suggest that the vehicle, a Mazda, continued a few meters before colliding with two other automobiles.

"Near number 20, on 1st Myasnikovskaya Street, a tree fell on a passing passenger car. The driver died," he said.
