A 7-year-old girl was killed by a leopard near Sangasar village in Gujarat's Dahod district, a forest official said today.

This is the third such incident in the region in less than a month, he said.

The leopard dragged the girl away from outside her house in Dhanpur taluka on Monday evening, said Vasiya Dungri forest range officer Mahesh Parmar.

The half-eaten body of the girl was found deep inside the forest this morning, he said.

An 3.0-magnitude earthquake has struck the English Channel just off the Sussex coast.

The tremor happened at around 9am on Thursday morning, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 7km, took place in the Channel 35km south of Camber and less than 50km away from Eastbourne.

Comment: Just yesterday in the UK it was reported that there were thousands of 'apocalyptic' lightning bolts and flash floods.

Flocks of dead seagulls have been found scattered around Lake Van in eastern Turkey, and even though most deaths are attributed to hunger and food scarcity, the extent of the deaths has been worrying.

The incident recently came to light after several concerned residents contacted officials about seeing the dead and dying birds around the body of water. Residents in the area have been demanding that authorities look deeper into the collective deaths, which happen on an annual basis.

Locals said the current situation with the coronavirus has only added to their worries, and the carcasses of the gulls were constituting a great public health hazard, especially to children who play around the lake.

Parts of the UK have been hit by high water due to excessive rainfall, with a flood warning issued across Scotland, Wales, and northern England. Meanwhile, sweltering heat continues to bake the rest of Britain. Heat warnings were issued for young children and the elderly as a temperature of 34C (93.2F) was recorded for a fifth straight day.

The skies above Britain were illuminated by around 50,000 lightning bolts overnight leading to power outages and electric cuts for several hours.

Excessive rains continued for four hours and golf ball-sized hail battered Capel Curig in North Wales. The drainage system overflowed, inundating the streets across parts of Britain.

The skies looked fiery red due to an electric storm in South Wales and turned electric blue in Bowland, Lancs, and Worcestershire.

A very strong dangerous earthquake was felt along the coast of Tanzania on Wednesday evening. According to USGS the epicenter was located about 80 kilometer south-east of Dar es Salaam. Moderate intensities were recorded across Daressalam and on Zanzibar island.

However, due to the distance between epicenter and coast, the impact of the quake will be reduced. Minor to moderate damage (cracked walls, etc.) is still likely in coastal areas of Pwani region. People in this area should also expect an aftershock sequence. There is no tsunami threat.

Weak intensities were also felt in parts of Kenya, especially around Mombasa. No damage should be expected there.

Earthquakes along the coast of Tanzania are relatively rare and today's event has been the strongest in decades. The seismic activity there still results from the tectonic processes along the Eastern African Rift Valley, although it runs further inland.

The island is home to 100 bird species. It is believed that about 200,000 birds live and breed here.

It is dawn at Musambwa Island in Kyotera district and chirping birds happily jump on rocks and trees.

A colony of grey-headed gulls takes to the sky, while others remain to guard their nests, eggs and young ones.

It is hard to tell whether they are mourning the death of several members of their flock, who drowned in the floods triggered by the recent rising water levels. Up to now, several breeding territories are waterlogged and deserted.

Going around the rocks, you jump over dead gulls, little egrets and other birds.

Over 80 eggs of different bird species and 110 dead birds are scattered within one acre.

Landslides blocked several roads after heavy rainfall in Veracruz State, Mexico, 08 to 10 August 2020.
Heavy rainfall from 08 to 10 August caused flooding and landslides in the state of Veracruz in eastern Mexico.

According to Mexico's meteorological agency Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN), 110.3 mm of rain fell in 24 hours on 08 August in Sontecomapan in Catemaco Municipality. The next day, 158 mm of rain fell in Jesús Carranza Municipality.The state's Civil Protection reported 3 fatalities after a landslide in Filomeno Mata Municipality.

Across the state more than 1,700 buildings were damaged and around 200 people were evacuated. Bridges were damaged and several roads blocked by landslides and flooding, leaving some communities isolated.

Over 1,100 homes destroyed, 13,200 affected by floods in Mali

The flood situation has deteriorated in Mali over the last 10 days according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Flooding began in the country in July, affecting around 7,000 people. According to OCHA, as of 06 August, more than 13,200 people, including 5,400 internally displaced persons, were affected by floods in the country. The worst affected regions are Gao, Mopti, Ségou and Sikasso. A total of 1,160 homes have been destroyed.

OCHA said that, in support to the government's efforts, humanitarian partners have already provided affected people with food, non-food items and shelter. However, the relief stock currently mobilized remains insufficient considering the increasing humanitarian needs of flood-affected people. This year, 112,400 people are at risk of flooding according to the national contingency plan.

Once again downpours have developed across the Philadelphia region Wednesday, and the National Weather Service has issued fresh rounds of flood advisories and storm warnings.

Flood warnings covered areas from Chester County, through parts of Philadelphia, into South Jersey at mid-afternoon where up to 2 inches of rain already had fallen.

Three separate severe-thunderstorm warnings were in effect at mid-afternoon on both sides of the river, and a flash-flood watch for the entire region remains until 11 p.m., with rainfall rates of 1 and 2 inches an hour expected along the I-95 corridor, the weather service said.

And some of the region's streams are about up to here with all this rain and are primed for another slosh-over, the weather service says. Rainfall last week in some areas incredibly was close to 1,000% of normal, according to the Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center.

In its noon update the government's Weather Prediction center had the entire region under a "moderate risk" for "excessive rainfall," with isolated rates of 2 and 3 inches an hour possible.

The month of August continues to surprise mainly for those who like very cold, as it registered frosts in negative temperatures every day of this month.

In South Brazil High Mountains (Serra Catarinense) registers historical cold (record cold) with three consecutive days at the -8º mark.

In Bom Jardim da Serra the Keizer stations network scored -8.8°C.
