Floods in Paraguay's capital leads to evacuation of more than 11,000 families

The Municipality of Asuncion reported that 12,583 families have been displaced by the flood. About 11,000 are now settled in the 118 shelters enabled in several points of the capital city.

Winter seasonal rains have taken a toll on Paraguayans, as overflowing of the Paraguay River in the country's capital city, Asuncion has affected 12,500 families since May 10.

Authorities from the Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) explained that in the last 24 hours, the river rose about five centimeters, overflowing and reaching 7.25 meters and flooding riverside communities.

The Municipality of Asuncion reported that 12,583 families have been displaced by the flood. About 11,000 are now settled in the 118 shelters enabled in several points of the capital city. According to the National Emergency Secretariat (SEN), a total of 62,119 families are affected by the floods in Paraguay due to stronger rains since last week.

Lightning bolt kills 35 goats in Mansehra, Pakistan

A person was killed when roof of his house collapsed due to heavy rains and thunderstorm that hit different parts of Mansehra district on Tuesday. According to police Muhammad Nazeer of Lambi Dheri Mansehra was entrapped under the rubble of his house roof that collapsed due to heavy rains. Locals retrieved his body from the debris after hectic efforts.

Meanwhile corrugated roofs of several houses in Baffa, Shankiari and other localities of the district were blown away due to thunderstorm. Trees, billboards and electricity poles have also been reported fallen in the rain blocking many links roads. The storm also disrupted electricity supply to various localities of Mansehra city where power supply system was damaged due to fallen trees.

The inclement weather also killed 35 goats and injured many others due to lightning that struck a flock at Kund Bangla Manshera. A shepherd also sustained injuries in the incident.

Denver sees biggest late May snow in 44 years
As of 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Denver had officially received 3.4 inches of snow. That's the most snow measured this late in the season since May 29, 1975 when 5.6 inches hit the city.

In addition to the snow, Denver tied the record low temperature for May 21 when the official thermometer for the city dropped to 31 degrees Tuesday morning. It was previously 31 degrees on this date in 2001 when 1 inch of snow fell.

In terms of high temperatures on Tuesday, they will struggle to reach into the lower 40s again making it the second day in a row with temperatures staying 30 to 35 degrees below normal for the third week in May. The record "coldest maximum" for May 21 is 40 degrees set 128 years ago in 1891. It's possible that record could also be challenged.

Another day, another fresh shot of powder at Lake Tahoe's ski resorts.

Heavenly Mountain Resort reported 2 inches of new snow in 24 hours Tuesday morning. That brought the seven-day snow total to 1 foot.

Heavenly will open Friday through Monday and then close for the season. As of Tuesday morning, the resort reported a season total of 498 inches.

Over at Squaw Valley, it is looking more like March than May. After receiving an additional 5 inches of snow overnight Monday, Squaw is reporting 28 inches of snow since Thursday.

While some regions of the United States, including the Northeast, are experiencing summerlike heat early this week as the calendar inches toward Memorial Day, other areas in the Midwest and western U.S. are still experiencing snow.

"Is that seriously happening out there right now?" flabbergasted Twitter user Michael Phillippi wrote on Twitter Sunday, in response to a photo of a winterlike scene shared by the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Duluth, Minnesota.

Phillippi is far from the only social media user to express his dismay with the winter display. Meteorologist Joe Moore declared the May snow in Duluth was 'CRAZY.' Many other social media users responded with disappointed memes about the snowy post.

Lightning bolt kills 3 family members and 2 goats in Telangana, India

Lightning struck a farmer's family, leaving three members dead and one injured in Vikarabad district, located around 90 kms from Hyderabad on Monday.

The victims were standing under a thatched platform in the field located on the outskirts of Rajapur village of Dharur mandal in the district, taking cover from the unexpected heavy rain.

The victims were identified as Khaja Bee(38), her daughter Tabassum(16) and son Akram(12), while the head of the family Fakruddin received injuries in the incident. Two goats belonging to the family also died due to lightning. According to police, Fakruddin along with his second wife Khaja Bee and her two children went to their maize field located on the outskirts of the village.

Comment: Three days prior to the above incident lightning also killed 2 people and 2 cattle in the same Indian state while 2 woman were fataly struck in Odisha on the 16th of May. In Bangladesh strikes killed a total of at least 6 people on the 19th of May and 2 family members died after being hit by a bolt on the 14th.

Ominous moment caught on camera where a strong tornado slowly starts approaching Ballinger in West Texas.
A large tornado was filmed moving across a field in Texas as powerful thunderstorms sweep through the Great Plains. With tornado season in full swing, more than a dozen states have experienced outbursts of severe weather.

The imposing twister was spotted in the town of Ballinger in Runnels County, central Texas, making its way across an empty field. Several structures can be seen in the background but it was unclear how far they were from the tornado.

Heavy rain and flooding hit parts of the Arabian Peninsula

Thunderstorms kicked off across much of the southern Arabian Peninsula this weekend after hot and humid conditions in the region.

In Oman, images out of Muscat's international airport showed very strong downpours on Sunday evening. Visibility was reduced to several hundred metres and flights were delayed while the storms moved through.


A bit further south in Oman, the town of Sur has picked up 66mm of rain in the last 48 hours. This is well above average for the month of May when the town would normally only see about 1.7mm.

Newborn baby among family missing in Oman flash flood

A family of 6, including a 28-day-old baby boy, were reported missing after their car was swept away in a flooded wadi in Oman.

According to the Times of Oman, the Indian family are feared dead after their day trip took a turn for the worst. The father of the family -- Sardar Fazal Ahmed -- recounted how the tragedy unfolded. The Oman-based expat said that he managed to hold on to a palm tree branch and pull himself out of the fast-flowing waters in Wadi Bani Khalid.
