Ski areas in the Pacific Northwest region of Canada and the USDA have reported huge snowfalls over the past week, and there's much more in the forecast for the week ahead.
Mt Baker in Washington state in the Northwest corner of the USA, which holds the record for the most snowfall in the world in a single season, as well as the average biggest snowfall every season, has had 98 inches (over 8 feet or 248cm) of snowfall in the last seven days and is expected to get over a metre more by Thursday.

A young, female humpback whale washed ashore at The Point section of Cape Henlopen State Park this weekend.
On Monday, volunteers and onlookers came out to examine the deceased whale, and eventually bury her on the beach.
"She has been hit by a boat, whether that was post mortem or not we will try to determine," explains Suzanne Thurman with the MERR Institute. "She's been scavenged by sharks as well and we'll see if we can find anything else that indicates other illness or injury as we go through our examination."
Thurman says the whale is a young teenager, and is the sixth to wash ashore in Delaware since 2016. Thurman explains that across the East Coast, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has classified humpback whales as dying at an unusual rate.
Japan's Meteorological Agency says a volcano erupted on Kuchinoerabu Island in the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima on Tuesday.
Mount Shindake erupted explosively shortly after 4:30 PM.
A column of volcanic ash rose 2,000 meters into the air, and large rocks were seen spewing from the crater.
A pyroclastic flow reached a distance of about one kilometer down the western slope. It is the first such flow to be observed there since May of 2015, when all residents were evacuated.
Mexico's Popocatepetl volcano lit up the sky with a large flash from an eruption on Saturday night. The volcano spewed ash and smoke into the night sky. On Sunday morning eruption, a second eruption followed.
Fresh snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir cripples normal life, temperature dips to minus 15 degree Celsius
Temperatures in the border state of Jammu and Kashmir dipped significantly lower after the state received fresh snowfall on Monday, bringing the movement of traffic to a grinding halt in many areas of the state and severely affecting normal life.
According to news agency ANI, Rajouri town which is known as Vale of Lakes has received around 3 to 4 feet snowfall. The region, around 155 km from Srinagar, has been witnessing heavy snowfall for the last few days.
The famous Mughal Road in the district has been closed due to a heavy spell of snow. The road has been closed for the last seven days due to snowfall in Pir Panjal mountain range. As a result, the local administration on Wednesday deployed officials with heavy equipment to clear the road and restore movement of traffic.

They currently crush the Cascades in annual snowfall of 173 inches YTD with much higher early season moisture. Temperatures have been on the warm side in most of the Cascades during this last storm cycle creating significant work for patrols in mitigation, and the ability to open new terrain. Whistler has seen wind holds on lifts, weekend crowds, and limited terrain until recently. They bumped up from 23 trails to 106 in the past few days (Nearly 50%). At press time, much of the expert terrain especially off piste still remains closed. Avalanche mitigation understandably has delayed the opening of some areas. Additional snowfall this week will add to the snowpack considerably by the weekend.
Two men reportedly have frozen to death in Serbia as a cold spell throughout the Balkan region slowed down traffic, disrupted power supplies and closed down schools in some areas.
Serbian state TV reported that the body of a 48-year-old man was found in the snow Monday in a northern village after he apparently died overnight. The channel later reported that another man's body was found in the northwestern town of Sid, also a victim of cold weather. He was 61.
In central Serbia, several villages have been left without electricity. Authorities warned the citizens to pay attention in the streets and parks to branches breaking off trees because of heavy snow.
Bulgaria's Road Infrastructure Agency issued a call on December 16 for motorists to avoid travel in north-western Bulgaria, unless in the event of emergency, because of heavy snowfalls.
The agency said that passenger cars and heavy lorries should embark on journeys only if equipped with suitable tyres, while motorists should drive at a reasonable speed and cautiously, maintaining a safe following distance and heeding instructions from traffic authorities.
It also called for caution given the "Code Yellow" warning of potentially dangerous weather because of heavy snowfalls in the regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Sofia - both the city and the district - Pernik and Kyustendil.
A sudden hailstorm slammed the South African resort town of Sun City on December 15, causing flash flooding and damage to various properties and vehicles. Sun International, which operates the Sun City Resort, said day visitors were immediately bussed away from the worst affected areas and said guests whose hotel rooms were affected were asked to return home, if possible.
Multiple social media users shared videos and photos showing the hail storm, leaks and flooding inside resort buildings and piles of hail in parking lots.
Some provinces in the South were affected Sunday by flooding triggered by torrential rain that erupted in the region over the weekend.
The Meteorological Department also warned of more torrential rain in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Trang and Satun today.
As of Sunday, Nakhon Si Thammarat, in particular, appeared to have suffered the worst of the downpours.
In Thung Song district of the southern province, run-off from the forest burst into the municipality areas where the flood levels reached between 30cm and 50cm, said a source.
