The state of Utah has been rocked by 728 earthquakes in the weeks since a 5.7-magnitude tremor rattled residents of Salt Lake City and beyond last month.

That figure includes three quakes with a magnitude of at least four and another 30 with a magnitude of at least three, according to the University of Utah Seismograph Stations. Experts additionally determined there were no foreshocks ahead of the initial earthquake, which shook swaths of Northern Utah awake on March 18 around 7 a.m.

The biggest of the aftershocks, a 4.7-magnitude tremor, occurred an hour later and a second quake of the same size rocked region again around 1 p.m.

Heavy rain has caused flash floods and landslides in two districts of Tana Toraja regency in South Sulawesi, leaving at least four people dead.

Tana Toraja Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Alfian Andi Lolo reported that three of the deceased were members of the same family in Randanbatu village, South Makale district, identified as Bottong, 80, Rita, 40, and Yen, 12. Meanwhile, one fatality is Rantetayo district has yet to be identified.

At least 28 ferry passengers were swept overboard in a powerful storm off the Solomon Islands, reports said on Saturday (April 4), with the captain unaware he had lost anyone until the boat docked.

The passengers were heading from the capital Honiara to West Are'are, more than 120km away, under a government programme to evacuate people to their home villages during the global coronavirus epidemic.

The MV Taimareho set sail on Thursday night as tropical cyclone Harold bore down on the Solomons, and with weather forecasters warning against any unnecessary voyages.

Delhi experiences wettest March ever, records 589% more rainfall than normal

Last month, Delhi received the highest amount of rainfall it ever has in the month of March, effectively making March 2020 the wettest one on record for the region.

According to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional met centre in New Delhi, Delhi's base monitoring station at Safdarjung recorded 109.6 mm rainfall between March 1 and 31, 2020 — a whopping 589% more than its long-term average for the month, which is a mere 15.9 mm. In the process, March 2020 surpassed the previous record-holder, i.e. March 2015, during which Delhi had received rainfall worth 97.4 mm.

Further, Delhiites also witnessed the fourth wettest March day on record last month, as the Safdarjung station recorded a 24-hour downpour worth 37 mm on March 15, 2020. In comparison, the highest single-day rainfall, at 62.2 mm, was observed way back in 1915.

More than 150 wild birds die in lightning strike
A large number of birds died in a lightning strike in the Kurdistan Region's Halgurd-Sakran National Park on Friday, officials have confirmed.

"At this time of the year, these [birds] migrate from the hot to cold places. While flying towards the Caspian sea in Iran, a lightning strike hit them," Mohammed Abdulla, an employee at the Halgurd-Sakran National Park, told Rudaw English. "We have so far managed to discover around 150 of them."

"There are many others that we have not yet been able to discover as their bodies have dispersed across the mountain," he added.

Sulaiman Tameer, head of the Kurdistan Organization for Animal Rights Protection categorized the birds as common cranes, a medium-sized species most commonly found in Europe.

Gusty winds and freezing rain led to numerous power outages in southern Manitoba Thursday

A potent low triggered a series of snowfall warnings, special weather statements, and freezing rain warnings across the eastern Prairies and northwestern Ontario Thursday, many of which still remain Friday morning.

There were reports of several early-morning highway closures, along with roughly 3,000 power outages by Thursday morning. By the evening, Manitoba Hydro tweeted that they were "finishing up" restoring power to the last of their affected customers.

As the storm tracks east, heavy snow will still continue behind it for parts of northern Manitoba, meanwhile, freezing rain and the risk of ice pellets remain for northern Ontario.
