At least 3 people have died in a landslide in Cauca Department, Colombia.

A landslide caused by heavy rain struck in the municipality of Argelia in southern Cauca early on 25 April, 2020. One house was destroyed and others badly damaged. One person was injured.

Torrential rain caused flash flooding in other parts of the department earlier this month. On 16 April, flood waters raged through the streets of Santander de Quilichao, causing damage to homes and material possessions.

Floods have forced mandatory evacuations in parts of Fort McMurray, the hub for Canada's oil sands industry, even as the province of Alberta tries to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, which includes Fort McMurray, ordered mandatory evacuations of some residents that began on Sunday and were expanded on Monday. Ice jams caused the Athabasca River to spill its banks.

Canada's Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, said the federal government was looking "very urgently" at ways to help the area.

"The fact that flooding season and in due course, forest fire season, is coinciding with coronavirus in Canada is posing some special challenges," Freeland said Monday in Ottawa.

The area, like most of Canada, is subject to restrictions on movement and most businesses are closed.

Wood Buffalo Mayor Don Scott described the situation as a "crisis" on social media, and he has asked for military help.

The eruption of the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano in Russia's Kamchatka has created spectacular scenes, producing rivers of lava and massive smoke clouds - but scientists worry that the resulting ash cloud could disrupt air traffic.

The latest activity within the steep symmetrical cone of the volcano - the highest in Eurasia - blew ash some 7,000 meters into the air on Monday, the Emergencies Ministry said.

Klyuchevskaya Sopka, at 4,649 meters in height, was effectively inactive for three years before it started spewing lava again last October - and the smoldering eruption has continued to some degree ever since.

A farmer examines his tobacco crop destroyed by hail in Swabi.
Heavy rain and hailstorm destroyed tobacco, wheat and vegetable crops in different areas of the district on Sunday.

The rain accompanied with hailstorm lashed numerous farming terrains of the district which ruined the standing crops. Farmers said the affected crops had little chances of growing now, resulting in big losses for them. Wheat harvest has been in progress while tobacco curing is expected to start in the next few days.

Leaders of the farmers said the rain mainly damaged crops in Nazari, Swabi tehsil, Mattra village, Sikandari union council, Razaar tehsil, Gohati, Seenkhel, Babu Banda, Maneri Bala union council and various other regions. All these regions are popular for growing both Virginia and white patta tobacco, they said.

Three youths were killed while three others sustained critical injuries after lightning struck them in Baunshiaguda village of Nabarangpur district.

The deceased have been identified as Motiram Bindhani (14), Lalit Bindhani (15) and Kadam Harijan (16).

According to sources, the incident occurred when the victims had gone to put tarpaulin over bricks in a brick kiln in the village. While three died on the spot, three others sustained injuries. The injured persons are reportedly undergoing treatment at District Headquarters Hospital.

Hundreds of birds were discovered dead on a cruise ship open deck by the crew, yesterday morning. A crew member who wishes to remain anonymous recorded a video of the sight which appears as if the birds had dropped down dead from the sky. There were many birds flying around the ship the night before "It was a beautiful night and we couldn't believe our eyes when we woke up this morning and see so many dead birds all around the ship's open deck" the crew member says.

"We wake up with announcements asking to not go to the open decks. To not touch the birds, and to feed them. I thought that the poor birds we're alive and I didn't went there. I love animals and I didn't want to see them and couldn't help in anything. I still can't stop to cry and nobody give reasonable explanation" says another crew member.


Comment: The explanation usually tossed out for these kind of events - that the birds may have been attempting to avoid an aerial predator - seems superficially plausible at first. However if this was really the case one might reasonably expect to see numerous examples and witness reports of mass fatalities like the above happening in the natural world every single day.

Clearly this is not the case.

The explanation just doesn' t fly.

Something odd is going on.

People inspect damage caused by floods on a street in Aden, Yemen
Initial reports indicate that more than 100,000 people across Yemen have been impacted by torrential rains and flooding since mid-April. Health authorities in Aden Governorate, one of the hardest-hit areas, have confirmed seven deaths, including four children. Two people are missing, and deaths and injuries have been reported elsewhere.

"Countless families have lost everything," said Ms. Lise Grande, Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen.

"This tragedy comes on top of the COVID-19 crisis, which comes on top of the pre-famine last year, which came on top of the worst cholera outbreak in modern history."

Aden, Abyan, Lahj, Marib and Sana'a governorates and Sana'a City have been worst affected.

Flooding has damaged roads, bridges and the electricity grid, and contaminated water supplies, cutting access to basic services for thousands of people. Conditions are hardest for thousands of families already displaced who have now lost shelter, food rations and household supplies.

On April 22, 2020, YouTuber 'Noel James Riggs' awoke to hear a strange "metallic sounding noise" outside his home in Albacete, Spain. He thought the sounds might have come from construction nearby, but realized it was early Saturday morning and decided to investigate:
Strange "metallic" sounding noise recorded between 6:30 - 7:00 AM on a Saturday morning in Albacete, Spain. The noise was very loud and there was no construction or large machines in the area at the time and this area is not near a factory or train station. These strange sounds can be heard in places all over the world. Sometimes they are called "Sky trumpets" etc. Nobody knows the source of this sound and as far as I know there is no scientific research going on to try and find the source. I had recorded a much longer audio recording with a HQ digital recorder when I decided to go back inside to record a video. This video recording is at the tail end of the phenomenon.
