Hailstones up to 4 inches in diameter battered Minnesota's Carver, Hennepin, and Wright counties, west of Minneapolis, on the afternoon of Monday, August 5, damaging vehicles and other property, according to people in the area.

The National Weather Service reported that "tennis ball size" hail had fallen in Watertown, Carver County, while hail four inches in diameter was reported in the Wright County town of Delano, about five miles northeast of Watertown.

This footage shows a hailstorm in Watertown. The person who shared it also posted images of a car windshield cracked in multiple places following the storm.

A 32-year-old Stark County man was killed by a lightning strike over the weekend, according to the Stark County Sheriff's Office.

Lt. Eldon Mehrer says Kyle Brierley from Dickinson was found unresponsive Sunday behind his truck in Richardton.

Deputies say the victim was in the area volunteering near a recreational center.

The medical examiners preliminary report confirmed the cause of death, according to Mehrer.

Mehrer says this is something they don't see often.

One sheep reportedly jumped off a 20-meter high cliff and was followed by the others in the herd, which was grazing in the Topyıldız village of Van's Gürpınar district.

The sheep that triggered the bizarre incident was reportedly trying to jump from one cliff to another in the early hours of June 12 in the Arebi-Krom plateau near the Yaprakli hamlet.

Comment: This is also eerily similar to an incident in France a few years ago where 200 sheep died from jumping off a cliff. While a bear was blamed for chasing the sheep, the incident could have been caused by something altogether different. As the SOTT editor commented:
Although a bear attack can't be ruled out, we can suspect that the incident was created by a "weather event" or something that created a high impact explosion, like a sonic boom or lightning strike. Sheep have acute hearing and are prone to "instantly scatter" away from heavy percussion and the source of the vibration. Many of the sheep were found to have dispersed over the mountains. It's dubious that a bear attack would create that type of a reaction.

Waterspout filmed off Emerald Isle, North Carolina - one of an influx for the state

After an otherwise sunny afternoon in the town of Emerald Isle just off the coast of North Carolina, Joshua Lanier spotted an ominous cylindrical mass swirling just above the water's surface.

Lanier caught it on camera from his beach house shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday and posted it to Twitter, where upwards of 3,000 people have since watched the video.

The tornado-like vortex he filmed is what's known as a waterspout.

A powerful magnitude 7 earthquake struck off Indonesia's island of Sumatra on Friday, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning and to order people to evacuate their homes.

The quake hit about 227 km (141 miles) from the city of Teluk Betung on the island at a depth of 59 km (37 miles). Indonesian authorities have warned that the tsunami could reach as high as three meters (10 feet).

"There are some areas at risk of a serious threat of a tsunami that could be as high as three metres," said agency official Rahmat Triyono, as cited by the AFP. "We're still waiting for reports about damage from the quake."

The Indonesian geophysics agency quickly issued a tsunami warning and the country's Disaster Mitigation Agency said that residents on the Banten coast of Java island should "immediately evacuate to higher ground".

Comment: Update: Reliefweb on the 5th of August reports:
According to the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB), following the 6.9 M earthquake last week, 6 are dead, 4 injured, and over 2,100 displaced, mostly in Pandeglang (Banten Province) and Bandar Lampung (Lampung Province). In both provinces, BNPB report 600 houses or buildings destroyed or damaged.

No emergency response was declared. Local governments supported by the provincial and national governments provided basic relief assistance.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck northwest of the South Pacific island nation of Tonga, the United States Geological Survey said on Monday.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake, which the agency said hit at a depth of 49 km (30 miles), about 47 km (29 miles) northwest of the town of Neiafu.

One person is missing after flash floods hit Rize Province in the Black Sea Region of Turkey on 04 August 2019.

In a statement, the region's governor Kemal Çeber said that 120mm of rain fell in 4 hours, flooding areas around the city of Rize, capital of Rize Province, inundating roads and buildings.

Two vehicles containing 3 people were swept away by flood waters from an overflowing stream on the outskirts of the city. Two survived but one is still missing. Search and rescue operations are continuing.

Hundreds of passengers were stuck in India's financial capital, Mumbai, and nearby towns on Monday after two days of heavy rain flooded rivers and undermined railway tracks, forcing authorities to cancel or divert dozens of long-distance trains.

Rivers in the western state of Maharashtra were flooded after authorities released water from dams made full after many parts on the west coast received more than 200 mm (8 inches) of rain.

Trains were cancelled due to the heavy downpours and because a boulder fell on one line, railway authorities said on Twitter.

Schools and colleges in Mumbai and neighbouring districts were also closed on Monday following a warning by the weather office of heavy rainfall, the Maharashtra chief minister's office tweeted.


Comment: Last week the Indian army and navy were called in to save 700 people stranded on a flooded train in Maharashtra state following torrential rain.
