A shark bit 10-year-old Jei's right forearm while he and his older brother were splashing in waist-deep water Sunday, his mom Tonya Turrell told the Island Packet.

They had only been at the beach for about an hour when Tonya heard her younger son screaming and made out the word "shark!" That's when she saw the blood, she said.

Jei was airlifted to the Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. The rest of the family followed in their car.

"That was the longest hour of my life, driving here," his mom said. They didn't know how bad his injuries were. They didn't know what to expect. All they were told was that getting him to a trauma center was the first priority.

Drivers were forced to pull over and residents south of Parker were whipping out their phones to shoot video of the impressive hailstorm that pounded the Pinery on Monday afternoon.

Viewers flooded the FOX31 newsroom inbox with pictures and video of the size able hail that pelted cars and quickly piled up on roads and in yards.

The hail accumulated to the point that snowplows were dispatched to clear high traffic areas.

This years Iceberg season is three weeks to a month behind as a record 565 bergs are in the waters as of May 14, 2018 this eclipses last years record of 481. Ice Arches backed up sea ice through the Nares Straight and Hudson Bay remains near 100% ice covered which is usually at 70% covered. The Arctic still has 4+ meter / 12 foot thick ice pack and Cape Town now wants to tow icebergs to alleviate its water shortage.

Lightning has struck and killed a 57 year - old man said to be a lawyer, Mr. Sumo Mulbah, Sr. and his 11 year - old son Sumo Mulbah, Jr. in the VOA Community in Brewerville, Montserrado County.

According to the wife of the decease Mrs. Victoria Mulbah, her husband, Mr. Mulbah, Sr. was a lawyer and he worked at the University of Liberia, while her son Mulbah, Jr. was a 6th Grade student at the Cridel Kids Foundation.

She says Mr. Mulbah had returned from work on Thursday evening, 8 May by 6: 30 pm before the incident occurred when he went out along with his son to collect his phone.

Comment: Also recently on May 14th a lightning bolt killed 3 teenagers in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Steamboat Geyser is seen in the steam phase of eruption on March 16. The steam phase usually follows a few- to tens-of-minutes water phase and can last for hours to days.
The world's largest active geyser has erupted again in Yellowstone National Park.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the Steamboat Geyser erupted just before 4 a.m. Sunday, its fifth eruption so far this year.

In a series of tweets, the agency said there's no indication of any volcanic activity in the park and that most geysers are intermittent. However, it says the string of eruptions is a good sign that summer visitors will get to see some "spectacular geysering."

Unlike some of the other Yellowstone geysers, which erupt relatively predictably, Steamboat goes through periods of dormancy, including one that lasted nine years.

Its first eruption since 2014 occurred in mid-March, followed by two other eruptions in April and another on May 4.

The driver launched a foul-mouthed tirade as he realised the scale of the inferno close to the remote Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM), an offshoot of the Trans-Siberian railway.

Some areas of Siberia are facing catastrophic wildfires - with one city Komsomolsk-on-Amur under siege from flames and choking smoke.

Park Ji-hyun, a working mother living in Bangbae-dong, southern Seoul, said she is surprised when she goes grocery shopping every weekend.

"It is difficult to find anything whose price has not risen. We have been refraining from eating out as restaurants have raised prices, but cooking at home has also become expensive," she said.

According to Statistics Korea, Wednesday, consumer prices rose 1.6 percent in April from a year ago, hovering stably below 2 percent for seven consecutive months.

However, inflation perceived by consumers is much higher. They especially feel the pressure at grocery stores and restaurants. The fresh food prices index marked a 4.7 percent rise in April compared with a year ago, jumping from a 1 percent rise the previous month.

Comment: The effect of the increasingly erratic seasons have been taking their toll for years and, as the weather reaches new extremes, food manufacturers and farmers can no longer hide the costs. A massive new fissure opened on Hawaii's Kilauea volcano, hurling bursts of rock and magma with an ear-piercing screech on Sunday as it threatened nearby homes within a zone where authorities had just ordered an evacuation.

The fissure, a vivid gouge of magma with steam and smoke pouring out both ends, was the 17th to open on the volcano since it began erupting on May 3. Dozens of homes have been destroyed and hundreds of people forced to evacuate in the past 10 days.

As seen from a helicopter, the crack appeared to be about 1,000 feet (300 meters) long and among the largest of those fracturing the side of Kilauea, a 4,000-foot-high (1,200-meter-high) volcano with a lake of lava at its summit.

Hudson Bay ice is at near 100% coverage this far into the beginning of the melt season. Comparing with 2017 spring melt the bay should be around 25% or more melted so far. Also the Canadian Ice Service is not updating its charts due to continuous 100% ice coverage. Maps and weekly data sets are frozen, literally. Great Lakes ice coverage was far above normal for the months of January and February 2018. Strange how the -18C temperatures still cover the Hudson Bay area.

14 killed by lightning strikes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, India

Unseasonal rains accompanied by thunderbolts claimed 14 lives in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

While nine people died and three persons were injured in Andhra Pradesh, five people, mostly farmers, died in Telangana in separate incidents of lightning strikes.

This is the single largest thunderbolt casualty in Telugu states on a single day in the last three years. Standing crop spread over hundreds of acres, particularly mango, was hit hard in the unseasonal rains and heavy gales.

Srikakulam district was the worst affected with six people succumbing to thunderbolt strikes, followed by Mancheryal district with three, and Kadapa and Vikarabad districts two each, and Vizianagaram one. All the three killed in lightning in Mancheryal district were farmers, who rushed to fields to cover their paddy produce from rain with polythene covers.
