The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert warning of avalanches and flash floods in vulnerable areas. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel citing the threat of landslides or other possible eventualities.
Additionally, the Kargil-Srinagar and Kargil-Zanskar roads remain closed for traffic movement due to snow accumulation and safety concerns. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

New eruption at Mount Etna in Italy
Mt. Etna, Europe's tallest active volcano, erupted again Friday evening on the Italian island of Sicily, sending ash and lava from its southeastern crater through early Saturday.
The eruption began around 7 pm (1700GMT) at the southeastern crater, located at an altitude of 2,900 meters (9,514 feet), according to local media reports. The lava split into three flows moving southeast down the slope, Italian daily La Stampa reported.
Residents said rumbling from the explosion was heard clearly in nearby villages.
Heavy rain has also triggered landslides and mudslides at nearly a dozen places between Nashri and Banihal along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway
Three people have died and the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the lifeline of the Valley, has been shut after heavy rain caused landslides and triggered flash floods in the Union Territory. Visuals show trucks stuck and vehicles submerged in the debris.
Among the areas worst affected by the calamity is Ramban. Multiple trees have been uprooted, disrupting traffic movement, and power cuts have also been reported.
A sudden spell of strong winds and rain hit the area on Thursday and flash floods followed.
Parshottam Gupta, former Sarpanch of Sateni Panchayat in Udhampur, said the area has suffered extensive damage. "I have inspected my Panchayat, and there were several trees uprooted. The traffic and electricity have been affected in the area. After 4-5 years, such strong winds have affected the area," he told ANI.

A sea lion’s head pokes out of the water behind a surfer at a beach in San Diego in April 2025.
An aggressive sea lion sent surfers running this week after it repeatedly went after them, even coming onto the beach, video of the incident showed.
The sea lion was suffering from severe domoic acid, which is caused by an unprecedented toxic algae bloom in the area that affects the animals' brains, causing them to be more aggressive, experts said, FOX 11 reported.
It has affected thousands of sea lions and other sea life in the area, killing more dolphins than in years past and at least two whales.
"These domoic acid events are getting bigger and worse and more frequent," John Warner, CEO of Marine Mammal Care Center, told the station. "That's horrifying. How long can all of these species take this type of abuse and still be with us? That's the question, and I don't know the answer to that."

What happened to Kennedy is nearly what happened to me. America is in danger of upheavals. But you'll see. All of them together will observe the law of silence. They will close ranks. They'll do everything to stifle the scandal. They will throw Noah's cloak over these shameful deeds. In order to not lose face in front of the whole world. In order to not risk unleashing riots in the United States. In order to preserve the union and to avoid a new civil war. In order to not ask themselves questions. They don't want to know. They don't want to find out. They won't allow themselves to find out."
