Bubbles of frozen methane seen through crystal clear ice of lake Baikal.

A tranquil video of white and silver bubbles of methane caught in newly-formed ice was filmed at Maloye More, a strait that separates the lake's largest island of Olkhon from the western shore of Lake Baikal.

'Ice covering the shallow straits and bays begins to form by the end of November, while the rest of Baikal freezes by the middle of January.

'This kind of ice, the purest, can only be seen in some areas of the lake in November and December', said Stanislav Tolstev, 46, photographer and tour guide from Irkutsk.

'The first time I paid attention to these bubbles was about four years ago, then I learned to distinguish methane from air bubbles.

When the residents of Vadhuk village were in the forest, they were attacked by a Himalayan black bear. The woman's husband climbed a tree and saved himself from the bear attack. Meanwhile, the woman was mauled to death by the bear.

Ashutosh Singh, divisional forest officer (DFO) Badrinath told Hindustan Times that compensation would be granted to the woman's family after the formalities are completed.

According to the forest official, the woman died on the spot. Singh added, "With the onset of winters, bear attacks increase as bears come down from snowy higher reaches in search of food. This is one of the main causes of the surge in man-bear conflict here in winter months."

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 jolted Balleny Islands region in the Antarctic Ocean at 2256 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 61.9292 degrees south latitude and 154.8222 degrees east longitude.

The Balleny Islands are a series of uninhabited islands heavily glaciated and of volcanic origin.

Confirmed tornado in Arlington, Texas causes some 'significant damage'

The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday that a tornado did touch down in Arlington, Texas Tuesday night, November 24.

Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and dozens of families have been displaced.

Severe storms moved through North Texas Tuesday night, prompting severe weather alerts in several counties.

Chopper 11 was over the scene Wednesday morning to survey the damage. The National Weather Service was expected in the are later in the morning to take a look as well.

The area near Pioneer Parkway and Collins in Arlington received a lot of Damage. The Burger Box in Arlington received major damage. Numerous power lines and trees were down in the area as well.

More than 100 pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins are dead after being stranded on the Chatham Islands, with 26 of them having to be euthanised.

The Department of Conservation was notified of the mass stranding on a remote Chatham Islands beach at midday on Sunday.

Ninety-seven whales and three dolphins died in the stranding, and 26 of the animals were alive but very weak.

DOC biodiversity ranger Jemma Welch said the 26 were euthanised due to rough seas conditions, and the almost certainty of the stranding attracting great white sharks to the area.

Comment: Also recently, dead or stranded whales have been tuning up on the shores of Mexico, Iran, North Carolina, Alabama and the UK.

Flooding the the center of Israel following heavy rains

Rescue teams came to the rescue of dozens of people as heavy rain caused flooding and power outages nationwide over the weekend, an MDA spokesperson said. No injuries were reported.

Snow also fell on Mount Hermon on Saturday morning for the first time this season.

The Arava Rescue Unit reported on Saturday evening that they had rescued a group of 35 hikers, all above the age of 50, who had been reported missing earlier in the day in the Makhtesh HaKatan (Small Crater) area in southern Israel.

According to the report, the group left Mitzpeh Tamar on their way to the Ashmedai Gate (also known as "the devils gate,") which lies at the entrance to the small crater, losing the trail after nightfall.

Second spell of heavy snowfall continues in Galyat

Tourists stranded as Thandiani, Nathiagali, Ayubia receive one-foot snow

Continuous heavy snowfall in the hilly areas of Hazara division on Monday brought the mercury below the freezing point, however, the main Muree Road remained open for traffic but roads to and from Koza Gali, Khanspur Road, Bakot, Nathia Gali Road, Boi Sawar Gali Road, were closed.

In the second spell of snowfall in the current winter season, Thandiani, Nathiagali and Ayubia received up to one foot of snow during the last 24 hours where a large number of tourists were stranded because of the slippery road conditions.

Snow-clearing machinery of the Galyat Development Authority (GDA), the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority (KPHA) and the works department has been deployed at various places of Galyat to meet any eventuality.
