The most recent figures from the Queensland Department of Primary Industries suggest over 144,000 livestock, mostly cattle, sheep and goats, have been killed by floods.
Farmers in Queensland, Australia have suffered huge losses after floods engulfed over half a million square kilometres of the outback, causing carnage to farms and livestock.

The most recent figures from the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (DPI) suggest over 144,000 livestock, mostly cattle, sheep and goats, have been killed by the floods which were the result of heavy rains across the State.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, some towns had recorded as much as 500mm (20 inches) of rain in the space of a week, which is the typical yearly total for the region.

The devastating floods come a few weeks after Cyclone Alfred did its damage, hitting Queensland's southeast coast and northern New South Wales.

As the floodwaters ease, more realistic figures of the true extent of the damage are likely to increase significantly as more dead livestock are revealed. It is also estimated that 3,183kms of fencing has been impacted, along with 4,076kms of private roads.

Tahoe sky resorts extend season after huge spring storm dumps 4 feet of snow

Kirkwood, USA: 4 April 2025.
Kirkwood, USA: 4 April 2025.
WEST COAST REPORT

Some ski areas around Lake Tahoe were closed midweek last week as the latest atmospheric river from the Pacific brought huge snowfalls but also gale-force winds, making opening difficult and potentially dangerous. By last Thursday, though, reports of up to four feet (1.2m) of snowfall were coming in from the storm cycle, leading some to announce season extensions.

"It's official - we're staying open through Sunday, April 20, following 33" (82cm) of new snow falling during this past storm cycle!" a statement from Kirkwood announced, adding, "All currently open lifts and terrain will remain operational daily through April 13. After that, frontside chairs 5, 6, 10, and 11 will stay open through our new closing day, April 20. Chair 1, Timber Creek, and backside chairs and terrain will close for the season after April 13."

Kirkwood joins Northstar, which also announced an extra week to the 20th. Elsewhere in California, both Palisades Tahoe and Mammoth have said they plan to remain open for almost another two months through to the Memorial Day holiday weekend at the end of May. Since last week's big storms, there have been some light snow showers, but mostly it's been very springlike with warm temperatures.

12 inches of April snow dumped on New England Ski Resorts

mmmmmmmm
The New England ski season may be winding down, but that doesn't mean spring showers—and spring powder turns—are out of the question. Several ski areas in the region have seen a significant refresh this week.

"If you took your snow tires off, audibly wished for 75 degrees and sunny, put away your snow blower for the year, or went looking for bathing suits at TJ Maxx—to that, Ullr calmly said 'hold my beer,'" Jay Peak Resort, Vermont, wrote in its morning snow report.

For Jay, it's been a memorable season. With 457 inches of snowfall this winter, totals at the resort have reached more than 100 inches above average. For a time, the Vermont mountain was outpacing Western destinations like Alta Ski Area, Utah, and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming, in total season snowfall.

Yesterday, Jay shared footage of new snow piling onto a truck on its Instagram page, documenting the effects of what it called "winter sprinter." The resort's 48 hour total is 12 inches. A similar story is unfolding at Sugarloaf Mountain, Maine, which, according to its snow report, picked up an extra two inches for a total of 14 inches in 48 hours.

This almost certainly goes without saying, but it looked all-time.

Storm Olivier coats Mount Teide in April snow creating a winter wonderland on the island of Tenerife, Spain

nnnnnn
Storm Olivier has swept across the Canary Islands, leaving behind an unexpected yet breathtaking scene on Mount Teide. While much of the island experienced rain and strong winds, the storm brought snow to the summit of Teide, transforming the usually sun-drenched landscape into a rare alpine spectacle.

At over 3,700 meters above sea level, Mount Teide is no stranger to the occasional dusting of snow during the colder months. But this spring snowfall, driven by the cold front associated with Storm Olivier, surprised locals and tourists alike.

The peak, often bathed in sunlight even in winter, is now glistening under a pristine white blanket, a stark contrast to the palm tree-lined beaches below.

Meteorologists from the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) confirmed that temperatures dropped significantly at higher altitudes during the storm, allowing snow to accumulate on Teide's upper slopes. Gusts of wind exceeding 90 km/h were also recorded in the Teide National Park area.

For many residents, the snowfall offers a welcome sight, as it's like seeing two seasons in one day. You can go from sunbathing at the beach to seeing snow in the mountains, it's what makes Tenerife so magical!
