Lightning strikes kill 6 across Bihar, India

At least six people, including children and women, were killed after being hit by lightning across Bihar as heavy rains lashed a large part of the state on Wednesday, the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority said.

Four people, including two women and one girl child, in Dhaamdaha block in Purnea district and two people including a woman in Aaryaari block in Sheikhpura district.

The state government has announced a compensation of Rs.4 lakh each to the affected families.

A large part of Bihar including Patna on Wednesday received medium and heavy rainfall. These were pre-monsoon showers, according to local Met department officials, adding that the state will continue to witness pre-monsoon showers over the next 48 hours.

Drought followed by snow for storm-ravaged Western Cape, South Africa

Last week the Western Cape government declared the province a disaster area because of the severe drought.

This week residents were warned to stay indoors to escape the wrath of the worst storm Cape Town had seen in 30 years. Gale force winds, rain, and now a thick blanket of snow has covered certain areas.

The storm that battered the city throughout Wednesday moved inland to Matroosberg, turning the torrential downpour into snow. Employees and guests at Matroosberg lodge awoke to a 10 cm of snow.

"The amount of snowfall we received is a lot for this time of the year. We have had people from Cape Town calling all day to come see it and enjoy," lodge manage Didi de Kock said.

With the start of the ski season in Southern Africa, ski areas are open on six continents simultaneously, as of this weekend.

This is partly thanks to the fact that resorts will open for their winter or summer ski seasons on five continents this weekend.

Fresh snow has also fallen or is reported to be due to fall over the weekend in the Alps, Western North America, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and south America, so it's a snowy June picture on ski slopes worldwide.

About half a dozen ski areas are still operating in each of Europe and North America (with Val d'Isere and Whistler Blackcomb due to re-open for summer glacier skiing this weekend and Mammoth pictured still open since last season) and the Gassan spring and summer ski area in Japan, Asia is also open in the northern hemisphere.

New eruption at Poas Volcano in Costa Rica

The National University's Volcanology and Seismology Research Institute (OVSICORI) reported an eruption that reached 1,000 meters above the crater, 3,708 meters above sea level (12.162,24 ft.), began at 8:50 a.m. local time this Tuesday and was still in progress at 10:05 a.m.

This past Friday, June 2 the Poás Volcano registered constant activity with small size eruptions and redcolumns of gases and ash, on Saturday some activity continued but Sunday and Monday there were no new eruptions although there was an intense column of steam and gases emanating from the crater.

Mysterious illness hits at least 100 gannets on Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Wildlife veterinarians have been responding to an unexplained "die-off" of Northern Gannets on Massachusetts' South Shore and Cape Cod.

Gannets are washing up on local beaches, seriously ill, or already dead.

Scientists are stumped over what can be causing the illness. A wildlife technician with the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates about 100 northern gannets have been affected overall.

The New England Wildlife Center (NEWC) has been scrambling to figure out the mystery. NEWC trying to quickly pinpoint the cause because it "is critical to protecting the fragile eco-system on Cape Cod," explained Dr. Greg Mertz, veterinarian and CEO of NEWC on the NEWC website.

Tree limb damage and a destroyed billboard on North Lamar Boulevard Monday were the result of a weather phenomenon known as a "microburst," and it was captured on video.

Downburst, or on a smaller scale, microburst winds are not rare in Texas thunderstorms, but capturing them in a video time lapse is. That is exactly what Victor Ituarte did while heavy thunderstorms moved over the middle of Austin late Monday afternoon.

His video captured the dramatic moment the collapsing pocket of cold air and rain rushed to the ground, fanning out at speeds of 40-50 mph.

Rare waterspout recorded in waters off Beihai, S.W. China

A rare waterspout was spotted off the coast of Beihai City, in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Wednesday, in a jaw-dropping scene that fascinated residents. Witnesses were quick to take out their phones and record the first video footage of a vortex of water swirling near the city. The whirlwind lasted for about ten minutes.

Dazzling 'ring around the sun' seen across New Hampshire

In all parts of the region Sunday afternoon, people saw a glowing ring around the sun.

Between 1 and 3 p.m., dozens of pictures were posted to social media from the seacoast to the Monadnock Region.

This is known as a 'sun halo' and occurs when sunlight passes through ice crystals high in the sky. The light is refracted by the ice crystals, and its straight path is bent in a 22 degree angle.

South Burnett residents were treated to a spectacular sight on Monday night, with a halo forming around the moon.

Professor Michael Drinkwater from the University of Queensland said the phenomenon was created by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. "They're reflecting or bending the light from the moon in our atmosphere," Prof Drinkwater said.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist David Bernard said the cool temperatures on the ground had no effect on the phenomenon, as it is always cold in the upper atmosphere. "We saw Cirrus clouds around Kingaroy, they're very high clouds," he said. "There are some remnants in the sky at the moment.

"What that can do is make the sun or the moon appear to have a halo around it, as long as it is not too thick to block out the light."

Of course it's over 90% black on Asian. Why? Because BFM set them up to do it, just like the St. George (Floyd) riots last year. If the poor SOB's...
