The subtle radiation spike - at levels that are considered harmless to humans, but significant enough to be picked up by radiation monitoring stations - began to make headlines last week, with European authorities announcing new readings of human-made radionuclide particles in the atmosphere.
"Very low levels of the radioactive substances cesium-134, cesium-137, cobalt-60 and ruthenium-103 were measured," the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority tweeted on Tuesday.
"The levels measured are so low that they pose no danger to people or the environment."
Similar observations were also made by radiation protection authorities in Norway and Finland.
Later in the week, Lassina Zerbo, the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation, tweeted a map outlining the possible source region of the anomaly, most of which was territory inside Russia, but also parts of Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, Misran Bisara said vehicles from Kota Kinabalu were stranded as far as three kilometres from the roundabout, which was the main entrance into the district.
"Similarly vehicles from Kota Belud, could not go out because the roads were inundated," he said when contacted by Bernama here, today.
The locusts descended upon the streets of Gurugram on Saturday, flying in a large, cloud-like mass and resting upon anything they pleased. The invasion was anticipated, and the local authorities urged residents to close their doors and windows beforehand.

Two vehicles fell into a river, killing two people and leaving three others unaccounted for, according to the Mianning county government in Sichuan province.
Another person was killed and nine more are missing in Yihai township, the county said in a post on its social media account.
Mianning is about 280 kilometers (175 miles) southwest of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan.
Fire and Emergency shift manager Craig Dally said ten fire trucks were sent to the area to assess damage.
Roofs have also been ripped off houses in the area.
There are no reports of any injuries.
This morning's tornado comes after some residents were terrified overnight.
Wind and rain caused flooding, lifted roofs and uprooted trees across Auckland.
The fierce winds led Dairy Flat residents in the city's north to take to Facebook with reports of a tornado ripping through the area.
The country's National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) confirmed the volcano emitted a continuous flow of lava and explosions on Friday and said it would continue to monitor the situation. No injuries or damage were reported.

In Novosibirsk, a strong cooling occurred last weekend. At night, the thermometer showed +5, and frosts were observed in some places.

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck on 27 June off the coast of France, data from the French seismological service showed.
The agency said that it registered the quake 105 kilometres (65 miles) southeast of the town of Douarnenez at 10:59 GMT. The epicentre was located at a depth of two kilometres (1.2 miles).
There are no reports about casualties or damages caused by the quake. No tsunami warning has been issued.
The Trans Sulawesi Road which connects the cities of Palopo and Tana Toraja, was cut off due to a landslide which completely buried the road and swept away a building.
One local resident captured the seconds of the collapse of the main road at Battang Barat, Wara Barat District. No casualties were reported.
