Propaganda: Scientists plan emergency summit on climate change

Scientists are to hold an emergency summit to warn the world's politicians they are being too timid in their response to global warming.

Climate experts from across the world will gather in Copenhagen next month to agree on a stark message to policy makers, which they hope will break the political deadlock on efforts to curb rising temperatures. The meeting follows "disturbing" studies that suggest global warming could strike harder and faster than expected.

It comes ahead of a year of high-level political discussions on climate change, which climax with international negotiations in Copenhagen in December, where officials will try to hammer out a successor to the Kyoto protocol.

Katherine Richardson, a marine biologist at the University of Copenhagen, who is organising next month's event, said: "This is not a regular scientific conference. This is a deliberate attempt to influence policy."

Comment: How many catastrophic quotes can this journalist include in a single article?

This is an "emergency summit".

They are meeting to:
agree on a stark message to policy makers, which they hope will break the political deadlock on efforts to curb rising temperatures. The meeting follows "disturbing" studies that suggest global warming could strike harder and faster than expected.
"This is not a regular scientific conference. This is a deliberate attempt to influence policy."
And so we hear it right from their own mouths that this has little to do with science but it is a deliberate attempt to influence governments.
Richardson said the IPCC report was "wishy-washy" on issues such as sea level rise. "The IPCC talks of a 40cm sea rise this century. Well, if the consensus now is a rise of a metre or more then they need to know that."
carbon emissions are rising faster than expected and that existing greenhouse gas targets may not be enough to prevent catastrophic temperature rise
Jim Hansen, of Nasa, have warned about so-called "tipping points" that could lead to runaway warming and rapid sea level rise.
Even without the new information there was enough to make most policy makers think that urgent action was absolutely essential. The new information only strengthens that and pushes it even harder.
Watson has warned that nations should prepare for an average rise of 4C. The IPCC said temperatures could soar by up to 6C by 2100 if current rates of carbon pollution continue.
A number of "disturbing" trends seem to have accelerated since the IPCC report was published, he said, such as a decrease in the amount of carbon pollution absorbed in the oceans, and an increase in Greenland ice melt.

No sea level rise

While global warming alarmists continue to spout shocking predictions about our coasts being inundated by rising sea levels, the best data given current interpretations is that the sea levels have not risen for several years.

An article by Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist Josh Willis describes a project for measuring sea level from 3000 autonomous ocean floats maintained by the Argo project.

Willis is an ardent believer in global warming, caused by man. Note: "Now that humans have become a major force in the Earth's climate, it is of paramount importance to build and maintain observing systems that can keep track of our ever-increasing impact." He has accepted the dogma that humans are a "major force" in earth's climate.

Two buses and over 50 cars carrying a total of 83 people were caught late Thursday in a heavy snowfall in eastern Kazakhstan, local emergencies services said on Friday.

"More than 50 cars and two buses with a total of 83 people were stranded in heavy snow on a stretch of the Ust-Kamenogorsk-Georgiyevka highway," the Kazakh emergencies ministry said in a statement.

Australian oil spill worse than thought

Brisbane - Ten times more oil than originally thought leaked from a ship to blacken miles of white sand beaches along Australia's northeast coast, a government official said Saturday.

Authorities declared a disaster zone along 37 miles (60 kilometers) of some of Australia's most popular beaches in Queensland state after they were covered in a blanket of heavy fuel oil that spilled from a ship hit by rough seas on Wednesday.

Global Cooling Continues

Continuing a decade-long trend of declining global temperatures, the year 2008 was significantly colder than 2007, and global temperatures for the year were below the average over the past 30 years.

The global temperature data, reported by NASA satellite-based temperature measurements, refuted predictions 2008 would be one of the warmest on record.

Who makes up the IPCC?

Suzanne Goldenberg recently complained in the UK Guardian about the ICCC (International Conference on Climate Change) global warming "deniers" :
The 600 attendees (by the organisers' count) are almost entirely white males, and many, if not most, are past retirement age. Only two women and one African-American man figure on the programme of more than 70 speakers.
In the UK, profiling like that might be considered a hate crime if it were about any other group other than the one she described. But that isn't the point. Below is a photo of the vaunted IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change) taken at their last meeting. The spitting image of her description of the ICCC. No doubt Ms. Goldenberg considers the adult white men in the IPCC to be great visionaries, leading the noble fight against climate Armageddon.

Canada: More Cold Temperature Records Broken

The Arctic high pressure system that has held Western Canada in its icy grip is starting to ease off. Not before more records were broken Wednesday and this morning.

Additional Information

Temperature records were broken across Western Canada. In some cases by a substantial amount. See below for details.

Australia: Turtles take Pacific highway

Loggerhead turtles
© Matthew BouwmeesterSwimming frenzy ... loggerhead turtles make a 20,000 kilometre voyage across the Pacific Ocean.
It's the trip of a lifetime, a circuit of the Pacific Ocean with a stopover near Peru.

Just like in the movie Finding Nemo, Australia's young loggerhead turtles make this 20,000-kilometre voyage by riding the ocean currents, new research shows.

Turtle researcher Michelle Boyle said that soon after the little loggerheads hatch on the Queensland coast they head for the water.

Only five centimetres long, they go into a swimming frenzy, she said. "They swim pretty much non-stop for 24 hours like little clock-work wind-up animals so they can get out to the offshore currents."

NASA solicits new studies on the current solar minimum

Sun 2002 2008

This is interesting. It seems that NASA has taken an interest in the current solar minimum and is getting ready to launch one or more studies about it. They are soliciting proposals.

From this NASA document (PDF here)

ROSES-09 Amendment 1: New proposal opportunity in Appendix B.9:
Causes and Consequences of the Minimum of Solar Cycle 23

This amendment establishes a new program element in Appendix B.9 entitled Causes and Consequences of the Minimum of Solar Cycle 23. This new program element solicits proposals to study the causes and consequences of the minimum of Solar Cycle 23. Proposals are encouraged that take advantage of this opportunity with studies of domains ranging from the center of the Sun through terrestrial and planetary space environments to the boundary of the heliosphere. High priority will be given to studies addressing the interaction between various regimes.

Notices of Intent to propose are due April 17, 2009, and proposals are due June 5, 2009.

Comment: Let's take another look at those bullet points -

Causes - Solar output
  • Lowest sustained solar radio flux since the F 10.7 proxy was created in 1947;
  • Solar wind global pressure the lowest observed since the beginning of the Space age;
  • Unusually high tilt angle of the solar dipole throughout the current solar minimum;
  • Solar wind magnetic field 36% weaker than during the minimum of Solar Cycle 22;
  • Effectively no sunspots;
  • The absence of a classical quiescent equatorial streamer belt; and
  • Cosmic rays at near record-high levels.
Consequences
  • With the exception of 1934, 2008 had more instances of 3-hr periods with Kp=0 than any other year since the creation of the index in 1932;
  • Cold contracted ionosphere and upper atmosphere; and
  • Remarkably persistent recurrent geomagnetic activity.
Interesting how all the man made global warming rhetoric drowns out much of any talk in the mainstream regarding something so significant as what is going on with the sun right now. Ask an average person if they are aware of any of this information. Then ask that same person what they have heard about global warming.

News and science has been turned over to the pop culture media and left the average person without a clue as to what is really going on in their own reality.

Forecasters see chilly spring for U.S. Northeast

A colder-than-normal start to spring is in the cards for the U.S. Northeast this year, signaling an extended heating season in the world's largest heating oil market, forecasters say.

"For the remainder of winter and the first half of spring, temperatures will be a little below average in the Northeast ... then in the second half it will start to go above average," said Jeff Johnson, long-range forecaster at DTN Meteorlogix.

Forecasters say spring-like temperatures which straddled the 60s Fahrenheit in some areas of the Northeast last week gave way by Thursday to below normal temperatures in the 20s to 40s Fahrenheit (minus 7 to plus 4.5 Celsius) in the region.

"The milder temperatures in the Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday will be a thing of the past on Thursday," Weather.com said in its near-term outlook, adding it sees cooler temperatures from New York State to New England with highs running below average.
