Tornadoes in Mississippi and Louisiana have caused "catastrophic" damage and at least six deaths after touching down Sunday, emergency officials say.

So far, officials say hundreds of structures have been damaged by the storms.

Two people are dead in Lawrence County, Mississippi, according to Monticello Fire Chief Lyle Berard, saying there were reports of two tornadoes in the area."It's pretty bad," he said "We have downed trees and multiple homes with major damage."

The Mississippi State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the Lawrence County deaths. It said on Twitter that one person had died in Walthall County and there had been three confirmed fatalities in Jefferson Davis County.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves declared a state of emergency over the storms.

"This is not how anyone wants to celebrate Easter Sunday," Reeves said in a statement. "The state and our first responders are working around the clock and will not rest until this is over. We are mobilizing all resources available to protect our people and their property."

A rainbow is always a welcome sight, especially in tough times like these. This particular 'flat rainbow' spotted in Mossel Bay yesterday [March 6], however, had many scratching their heads in confusion and wonder.

Photographer Amanda Walden captured a beautiful image of what appeared to be a rainbow over her home in Danabaai. However, the rainbow was without its arc, leaving Walden wondering why it appeared this way.

"I photographed this "flat rainbow" earlier today from my home in Danabay (Mosselbay)," Walden wrote in a Facebook post." A cold front is moving through the area. Could somebody please explain why it isn't arched like "normal" rainbows?"

Iceland's Reykjanes volcanic activity increases, 'very unusual' says scientist

Volcanoes on Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula have not erupted since the 12th century, almost 800 years, and have over a short period experienced over 8,000 earthquakes as the land uplifts, indicating that the region is becoming active again.

Rising volcanic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland could potentially result in causing disruptions for over 300 years, scientists have warned, according to the Guardian. Not having erupted in 800 years, the region is reportedly becoming active again as land uplifts of 10cm are occuring due to underground magma intrusions, according to Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO).

Sigríður Magnea Óskarsdóttir, a specialist in natural hazards at the IMO, said to inews that currently, the volcanic activity is "unusual".
"There were eruptions in the Reykjanes peninsula 800 years ago, but in our lifetime, what we are experiencing is very unusual", he said.
If the peninsula sees volcanic activity, eruptive episodes locally known as "fires" can occur, creating fissures of up to 8km in length in the earth that spew lava. These "fires" could possibly cover large areas of land in lava, as it happened between 1210 and 1240 when an area of around 50 square kilometres was affected.

Comment: There has been an uptick in volcanic activity recently, including these from the last few days:
