Society's Child
In the West we are warned to steer clear of fake news and be wary of information warfare whilst round the clock media coverage bombards us minute by minute with the latest news and images from around the world. Before we can contemplate, not to mention verify, one story, our attention is caught by the next soundbite. Even when a news report is later shown to be inaccurate, people have already moved on as their attention becomes captivated by the latest scoop. We are given the option of trusting the media or delegating our quest for truth to one of the many so called 'fact-checking' websites. Some may choose to give up and heed the words of President Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and declare that "truth isn't truth" or that it "is relative".
The lines between fact and fiction are becoming further blurred by the emergence of so called 'deepfake' technology that makes it easy to create fake videos by superimposing one image onto another. Last year such videos were posted on the internet by a Reddit user named 'deepfakes' that appeared to show various celebrities performing hardcore pornographic acts, including incest. Their faces had been superimposed onto those of porn actors without consent. Although websites such as Reddit and Pornhub have since denounced and banned deepfake pornography, others view deepfake technology as a good business opportunity.
Nielsen Media Research reports that perennial ratings loser CNN had a terrible August despite a banner news month, reports the Hill.
While Fox News notched its 200th consecutive month at number one in cable news and gained in primetime viewers (when compared to this same month last year), CNN lost -12 percent of its primetime viewers and a whopping -15 percent of total day viewers.
Fox News averaged 1.3 million total day viewers (down -4 percent) and an incredible 2.3 million primetime viewers (up +4 percent).
I sit in the LAX terminal after concluding business in downtown Los Angeles for the past two days, I cannot help but reflect upon my journey from once a California native to a new resident of the Great State of Texas and why. You see, in my personal and professional opinion, the once great State of California has in essence become a third world country.
Third World Country - "The concept of the "third world" has evolved to describe countries that suffer from low economic development, high levels of poverty and little to no ability to utilize natural or economic resources." French demographer Alfred Sauvey, 1952While the reasons for California's ever-spiraling downwards status from 1st World economic prominence and prosperity to near 3rd World malaise are many; I will assert that when you combine uber-liberal politicians, with rich elitist Hollywood Celebrities, dotcom CEO's billionaires, disengaged millennials and illegal aliens; you in effect create the circumstances where your city of state becomes a 3rd World environment.
Comment: While the author is clearly on a bit of rant here, he brings up many good points that paint a rather ugly picture of the US state with the largest economy (and, if it were a country would have the 5th largest economy in the world).

During ''Operation Safe Child,'' undercover detectives posing on social media as underage boys convinced the men to meet a decoy at a public place to engage in sexual acts, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
The nine-day operation led to the arrest of Charles Patrick Mayer, 55, of Menifee, as well as eight other men who allegedly agreed to meet with who they thought was a 14-year-old boy at ''various parks and public parking lots throughout the city of Rancho Cucamonga.''

A T-60 Soviet light-weight tank of the WWII era on display at the War Motors international exhibition.
This spring, the leader of the Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) patriotic organization, Pavel Baranenko, organized tank rides in one of the parks on the bank of the Neva River in St. Petersburg, Russia. Thrill-seekers were asked to pay 300 rubles (just over $4) for a chance to sit atop a World War II era T-60 Soviet light tank as it traversed an obstacle course.
"Behind the creation of the pseudo-organization the White Helmets, are the British special services: they sponsor them, they lead them. They were behind the organization of those fabricated scenarios for the use of chemical weapons and now they are preparing such a development of the situation with the use of chemical weapons in Idlib," Muallem said.
Comment: Of course, you cannot have a convincing, heart-wrenching staged chemical attack if you don't sprinkle the scene with a few bodies of dead children.
The whole world has been warned now. If and when this happens, you know who to blame. You will also know that the Western bombardment to follow will be a naked, cynical and unjustified aggression.

China's crude oil futures launched in March, with crude set for delivery in September, the first month which the Shanghai International Energy Exchange (INE) designated for deliveries in order to allow the contract to develop and accumulate volumes for physical delivery.
The deliverability, the volume, and smooth process will be key to China fulfilling its ambition to have the yuan-priced oil futures contract become a major crude benchmark on a global scale like the Brent and WTI benchmarks, analysts told Reuters.
The first such test will be next month, during which Chinese companies, including state-held majors, will deliver oil against the Chinese oil futures contract to storage facilities that are among the eight sites that the Shanghai exchange has approved for cargo delivery in the futures contract, according to sources.
"[White Privilege is] the unquestioned and unearned set of advantages, entitlements, benefits, and choices bestowed upon people solely because they are white. Generally white people who experience such privilege do so without being conscious of it." -- Peggy McIntosh, quoted in the Racial Equity Resource GuideThe concept of 'white privilege' was popularized by Peggy McIntosh in a 1989 paper written at Harvard University and titled, "White Privilege: Unpacking The Invisible Knapsack." It was written as a personal, experiential essay, and it details 26 ways in which McIntosh's skin color has been decisive in determining her life outcomes. This hugely influential paper has been responsible for the subsequent proliferation of a rigidly enforced theory of privilege throughout social movements and university classrooms. So central has this doctrine become to progressive politics, pedagogy, and activism, that to even question its validity is to invite the inquisitorial wrath of 'social justice' radicals. But it is for this very reason that it is important to subject McIntosh's ideas to scrutiny. So let us return to the source and to first principles and unpack Peggy McIntosh's knapsack...
Isabelle, an 18-year-old student from Bedfordshire who doesn't want to disclose her surname, turned against social media when her classmates became zombified. "Everyone switched off from conversation. It became: 'Can I have your number to text you?' Something got lost in terms of speaking face to face. And I thought: 'I don't really want to be swept up in that.'" For 15-year-old Emily Sharp, from Staines in Surrey, watching bullying online was the final straw. "It wasn't nice. That deterred me from using it."
It is widely believed that young people are hopelessly devoted to social media. Teenagers, according to this stereotype, tweet, gram, Snap and scroll. But for every young person hunched over a screen, there are others for whom social media no longer holds such an allure. These teens are turning their backs on the technology - and there are more of them than you might think.

Gerard Depardieu at the 66th Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany Februaryб 2016.
The complaint against Depardieu, 69, was filed with the Paris prosecutor's office on Monday. It accused the actor of sexual abuse on two occasions, August 6 and August 13, Le Parisien reported. The young woman is understood to be a protégé of Depardieu's and also the daughter of the famous actor's friend.
Depardieu's lawyer Hervé Témime confirmed that a complaint against his client had been filed, but said the actor "absolutely denies having committed the slightest offense" against anyone. He said he expected the complaint to "not prosper on the judicial level."
Comment: Mr. Depardieu has admitted to having a rather unsavory past, so it will be interesting to see if other women decide to come forward.
