Police say homeless population at Atlanta airport is out of control threatening passenger's health and safety

homeless atlanta airport
Atlanta police officers working at the world's busiest airport are speaking out about the increase in incidents caused by an ever-growing homeless population.

While the homeless cannot go through the security gates without a pass, that does not stop them from setting up camp across the North and South Terminals as well as the connecting Atrium, which was built as a respite for airline passengers.

IDF kills Palestinian in search of suspect in killing of Israeli colonist

jenin house demolition
Israeli forces killed one Palestinian overnight between Wednesday and Thursday during a raid on the northern occupied West Bank Jenin refugee camp, that was meant to capture or kill the suspect in last week's shooting of an Israeli settler near Nablus.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the slain Palestinian as Ahmad Ismail Jarrar, 31, contrary to Israeli reports that his cousin, Ahmad Nasser Jarrar -- allegedly responsible for the settler's death -- was killed.

Sources told Ma'an that Ahmad Nasser Jarrar evaded capture during the raid, after reportedly shooting and injuring two Israeli soldiers.

Two other Palestinians, whose identities remained unknown, were detained in the raid.

Israeli forces also punitively demolished three homes belonging to members of the Jarrar family. Locals identified the homeowners as Ahmad Nasser Jarrar, Ali Khalid Jarrar and Ismail Nasser Jarrar.

In many terms Russia and the U.S. are similar. Nevertheless, many things differ, including in everyday life - and in certain spheres of life, Russia turns out to be better
Two powerful countries with different views and approaches to many issues, Russia and the U.S. have always been compared to each other. Putting politics aside, Russia Beyond analyzes Reddit and Quora.com posts about the advantages of everyday Russian life compared to American and gives a brief outline.

Over the last couple of years, Russia has definitely been attracting Westerners' attention and not only in terms of hacking rumors and every other scandal under the Sun. The way ordinary Russians live and cope with their problems is also interesting, especially in comparison to the West, the U.S. in particular.

On Jan. 15, 2017 a user going by the alias ajl1239 posted a question on Reddit: "As a so-called 'Westerner,' I'd like to know what are some things that you absolutely think Russia does better than the West (i.e. U.S./EU)?" Six months ago almost the same question appeared on Quora.com: "In what ways is Russia better than the United States?"

We've studied the most popular answers, compared them with what we see in Russia, provided information from some other sources - and made a list of what Russia excels at. Here we go.

Parents enraged after UK college removes front door of bathroom stalls in girls' toilet block, visible to classroom and CCTV camera

merseyside school bathroom
Parents are keeping their children at home in protest against a Merseyside school's decision to remove the front wall of a girls' toilet block, which they say is making pupils feel "scared and unsafe".

A privacy row has erupted between St Mary's College in Wallasey and parents after the exterior wall was removed to make the toilets open plan.

Pictures sent to The Independent show that the toilet cubicle doors are now exposed to an open corridor, and are in clear sight of at least one classroom and a CCTV camera.

It is believed that the decision has been made by the school in a bid to stop smoking, bullying and truancy, with the new layout meaning pupils can no longer hide in between lessons.

'Friend of a friend': Six degrees of separation letters wind up in NZ PM's hands

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern gave the students of New Zealand schools a pleasant surprise by responding to letters delivered to her through six degrees of separation, the idea assuming that a chain of 'friend of a friend'-type associations no longer than six people long can lead one to contact anyone, even people in some very high places.

Ardern, the 37-year-old prime minister of the country of 4.7 million, published a post on her Facebook page recently along with a photo of one of the hand-delivered letters she had received. "Going through a few letters and I love how many of these there are!", she wrote, along with an explanation of the rules of the game.

The letter to the PM was accompanied by a text, which read that "If you're reading this then it means our experiment has worked. We are testing how connected New Zealanders are, regardless of their place in the world." Most of the letters reportedly asked the prime minister about how she liked her job and what it was like to lead the island country.

Russia rebuilds ruined Syrian hospital in Aleppo

Images have emerged of Russia's marvelous work in rebuilding the ruined Djab al-Kaba hospital in the war torn city of Aleppo

Russia has rebuilt the ruined Djab al-Kaba hospital in Syria's northern city Aleppo, which has been the center of brutal fighting for years now. It's this type of work which goes a long way to winning over the hearts and minds of ordinary Syrians.

The humanitarian superpowers can praise each other in their echo chamber atop their ivory tower until it falls at the end of the world. No matter how much they speak of human rights, no matter how many sad children they put on TV, and stories they run about saving Syrians from evil dictators, Russia is making facts on the ground.

Syrians will remember this hospital, and many places like it were rebuilt by Russian hands. These are the same hands which pull their loved ones out of the ruins, and help them in their fight to free Syria. When Syria looks back on their true friends, years from now, long after their inevitable victory over terrorism, they will remember Russia.

"Children are not trash"
The proportion of Russian citizens who consider abortion unacceptable has tripled over the course of the past 20 years, from 12% to 35%. The number that condemns adultery and same-sex relationships has also significantly increased, according to data from a recent Levada Center sociological survey. According to experts, the change in public opinion attests to the strengthening of traditional family values, Pravoslavie.ru reports.

The nationwide survey held in late December 2017 showed that the majority of Russians (68%) condemn extramarital sexual relations, while only 50% condemned it in 1998. The 2017 number includes 77% of women and 57% of men.

Those disapproving of homosexual relationships increased from 68 to 83% in the same time period, with only a 1% difference between men and women.

Paris dustmen sound alarm over plague of rats on banks of river Seine

Paris rubbish collectors have released a video to sound the alarm over a plague of rats that have invaded the banks of the Seine, claiming that the rodents now pose a physical threat to dustmen.

Shot last month between the tourist landmark of the Musée d'Orsay and the Pont Royal, the film shows a huge group of the large vermin desperately trying to escape from a deep plastic municipal rubbish bin.

The dustman who shot the film, known only as David, can be heard shouting: "Look in the bin, there are a million rats!"

He said colleagues were so overwhelmed, they simply shut the bin and "crushed" all the rats in their garbage truck.

The "horror" scene was, according to the municipal collector, far from a one-off.

"For the past year, we've seen a proliferation of rats in all the arrondissements on the banks of the Seine," the dustman told Le Parisien, the French capital's daily newspaper. He said the situation was no longer tenable "both for Parisians and tourists who come to visit the most beautiful city in the world".

Canadian billionaire couple linked to Clinton Foundation found dead in double murder - Update: Crime was 'contract killing'

The owner of the Canadian pharmaceutical giant Apotex, Barry Sherman, and his wife were found dead at their home under suspicious circumstances. Reports say their bodies were "hanging side by side" next to their pool.

The bodies of Bernard Sherman, 75, also known as Barry, and his wife, Honey, 70, were found around Friday noon in their mansion in the North York district of Toronto by the police, who arrived in answer to a 911 call.

Police did not say who made the call, while the National Post reported that the bodies were initially discovered by a real estate agent, who came to the couple's luxury mansion, which is currently up for sale.

The paper also said that the bodies were "found hanging side by side next to their indoor pool," something that other Canadian outlets later repeated, citing police sources. Local media also said police were looking into whether it was a murder-suicide.

Update Jan 22: Contrary to initial reports, investigators believe this was not a murder-suicide. The NY Post reports that investigators have found that multiple killers were involved in the horrific crime, and Haaretz is reporting that investigators say it was a contract killing. For a couple that had links to the Clinton Foundation's relief efforts in Puerto Rico, which means it's likely they knew a little too much about whatever schemes were undertaken there and had to be taken care of, that's just how the Clintons operate.

Update Jan 27: The Duran adds:

Last week The Duran reported on a billionaire husband and wife found hanging side-by-side in their posh Toronto home last month.

According to Toronto police multiple killers played a role in the deaths of Barry and Honey Sherman - contrary to the widely-circulated murder-suicide theory initially leaked by law enforcement, sources told CBC News, citing a parallel probe by a team of investigators hired by the couple's family.

A real estate agent who was selling the $5.4 million home had discovered pharmaceutical mogul Barry, 75, and Honey, 70, dead on Dec. 15.

Barry Sherman founded Apotex pharmaceutical company. Apotex supplied generic drugs to the Clinton foundation in Haiti and Rwanda. Apotex also donated medicines and supplies to Clinton Foundation Puerto Rican relief efforts in 2017.
Zerohedge reports that nearly a week after a team of private investigators that included several former Toronto homicide detectives said they found evidence of foul play, the Toronto Police Department said Friday that they will now investigate the deaths of billionaire philanthropists Barry and Honey Sherman as a "targeted" double-homicide, according to CBC. The police made the announcement during a 1 pm ET press conference.

*****

A source with direct knowledge of the parallel probe told CBC Toronto that private investigators believe that the billionaire Toronto couple was murdered by multiple killers.

The couple's children expressed outrage at the media's willingness to jump to conclusions in the murder case after the deaths were reported as a "murder-suicide" before the official police announcement.

As we reported previously, the Sherman's were popular on Toronto's gala circuit and were said to be excited about their newest grandchild at the time of their deaths.

Indeed, the Sherman's gifts included multimillion-dollar donations to hospitals, schools and charities and had buildings named in their honor. They also gave generously to Jewish organizations.

They even hosted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for a Liberal party fundraiser in 2015. In a statement released following the initial reports of their deaths, Trudeau said he and his wife were "saddened" and offered "our condolences" to their friends and family.

FBI says marine flares, not pipe bombs, were found after reports of explosions at East Ridge Mall in Lake Wales, Florida

Florida mall
The FBI says they are working with the Lake Wales Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff's Office to investigate reports of explosions at a Lake Wales mall on Sunday night.

Initial reports claimed two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) went off at Eagle Ridge Mall on Sunday night.

The FBI says there is no indication of any explosion at the mall and no pipe bombs were found. Officials believe marine flares were ignited in the mall hallway and they created a large amount of smoke. A backpack was also located at the scene but bomb technicians say it did not contain any incendiary or explosive devices.

Upon further investigation, the FBI says there is no current indication of any terrorist connection to this incident.
