Tens of thousands rally in Barcelona to back independence on Catalan holiday

Massive crowds gathered in Barcelona to mark the Catalan national holiday and to demand independence from Spain, in a vocal message from the separatist movement, whose leadership has mostly been jailed by Madrid for "rebellion."

Tens of thousands rallied in the Catalan capital on Wednesday for "Diada," Catalonia's national day, in a colorful pro-independence demonstration replete with banners, flags and patriotic chants.

Following 2017's ill-fated independence vote -which Madrid declared illegal and invalid- dozens of Catalan separatist leaders were arrested, on charges ranging from misuse of state funds to "rebellion," over their involvement in the referendum. A verdict in one high-profile case involving 12 leaders is expected in the coming weeks.

'We live in hell': New sexual fetish; couples getting pregnant and having multiple abortions

pregnant woman belly

"My girlfriend enjoys her pregnancies and she enjoys the abortion."

A new sexual fetish has emerged where couples repeatedly get pregnant then have multiple abortions.

Every day we stray further from God's light.

In a Reddit post entitled 'Question regarding abortion and breeding fetish', one user reveals how she has "a female friend who has a really powerful fetish for breeding" and never used birth control.

Comment: When society has reached a level this depraved, there's really no choice but a hard reset. Bring on the comets.

California and Alabama are the only two states that aren't participating in the giant antitrust investigation of Google, and neither is saying why

California’s Xavier Becerra is one of two state attorney’s general who isn’t a part of a multi-state antitrust investigation of Google and Facebook.
Only two state attorneys general aren't taking part in the multi-state antitrust investigation of Google and one of them just happens to be the head of law enforcement in the company's home state.

Xavier Becerra and Steve Marshall, the attorneys general of California and Alabama, respectively, are the only two holdouts in the joint state investigation of the two tech companies. It's unclear why neither is taking part in the investigation, and neither offered much of an explanation.

"California remains deeply concerned and committed to fighting anticompetitive behaviour," a representative of the California Attorney General's Office said in an emailed statement. "Regarding this investigation or any other, to protect the integrity of potential and ongoing investigations, we cannot provide comment."

Press representatives for Marshall, meanwhile, did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment.

The attorneys general of the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 48 states announced Monday they are investigating Google's advertising practices and whether the search giant has harmed competitors. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is leading the joint inquiry.

9/11: You weren't stupid, Mr. Brown!

aaron brown 9/11
Aaron Brown, news anchor during most of CNN's coverage on September 11, 2001, was interviewed on the 15th anniversary of the event. He said in that interview that he had felt "profoundly stupid" when he was reporting the destruction of the first Tower (the South Tower) on that morning.
I...I will tell you...that a million things had been running through my mind about what might happen. About the effect of a jet plane hitting people above where the impact was, what might be going on in those buildings. And it just never occurred to me that they'd come down. And I thought...it's the only time I thought, maybe you just don't have what it takes to do a story like this. Because it just had never occurred to me." (CNN, Sept. 11, 2016, interviewer Brian Stelter)
Is it not remarkable that Brown was made to feel stupid, and to feel inadequate as a news anchor, during the precise moments of his coverage of that day when his senses and his mind were fully engaged and on the right track?

9/11, Identity Politics And The Coming Storm

chaos usa trump division
© Christina Animashaun/Vox
The events of 9/11, and the wars they unleashed, were the work of a ruthless cabal seeking to 'shape reality' in US society and beyond. Serving as a catalyst, 9/11 artificially introduced an 'us versus them' mentality upon everyone, ultimately affecting every fracture line - every social, ethnic and religious division - in society. Quite how much of what has followed since that fateful day was intended by the perpetrators is difficult to gauge, but they certainly had their reasons, and those reasons were informed by megalomaniac visions of world domination and mass social engineering.

Those of us who lived through 9/11 watched in horror as it triggered the 'Clash of Civilizations', embroiling the Western world in a 'clash' of values with the Muslim world, 'justifying' torture, terrorism, wars of aggression, the pillaging of government treasuries, and massive state surveillance. Some of us thought, if we just expose the hand behind 9/11 and the subsequent 'war on terror', we can stave off calamity.

But this endeavor, it turns out, is beyond us. The full horror of 9/11 has since 'progressed' to cause profound economic malaise in the West, and most recently encompass (and devour) the broader 'Culture Wars'. Those who reacted to 9/11 by taking refuge in 'our Western values' believed that at least from here, we can defend the West from the Rest. But those values - reflected in what was once 'common sense' - have been hijacked and corrupted from within, then turned against everyone and everything.

Petrol bombs thrown at police during Northern Ireland bomb detection operation

petrol bombs thrown at police
Petrol bombs were thrown at police vehicles as officers investigated a suspect device in Northern Ireland, authorities said.

Army bomb disposal experts later disabled an improvised explosive device, which police claimed was the New IRA (Irish Republican Army) was responsible for.

The operation in Creggan, in Derry/Londonderry, started on Monday morning and involved 80 officers and explosive detection dogs. It came after a mortar device was found on Saturday morning in Strabane, about 24 km south of Derry/Londonderry.

"Following a large scale search operation in the Creggan area of Derry/Londonderry, police located a suspect device in a parked vehicle," said a press release on Tuesday.

Why the Israeli elections will never make a difference

Neti/Gantz
© Kobi Gideo/GPO
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu • Benny Gantz
On the 17th of September, Israelis will be going to elections. Again. The recent April elections failed to result in a governing coalition, the parliament was dispersed, and new elections were scheduled. But it's not just a repetition in that sense - it's also a monotonous repetition in the sense that it has happened 21 times since Israel was founded, and nothing has changed, really.

The picture is always the same. Parties who represent Palestinians are marginalized because they are not Jewish and Zionist. They are not wanted in any governing coalition and they never end up in government. It has been so from day 1: for Israel to remain "Jewish and democratic" it basically has to exclude Palestinians from any meaningful national representation.

This political paradigm is merely a reflection of the Zionist ethnic cleansing program, which sits at the heart of its settler-colonialist designs. As Richard Falk and Virginia Tilley put it in their UN report on Israeli Apartheid:
The first general policy of Israel has been one of demographic engineering, in order to establish and maintain an overwhelming Jewish majority in Israel. As in any racial democracy, such a majority allows the trappings of democracy — democratic elections, a strong legislature — without threatening any loss of hegemony by the dominant racial group.
That paragraph needs to be framed and hung on walls in all Israeli homes. That policy of "demographic engineering" is not only the first policy of Israel - it is its continuing, central, and primary policy. That's what "Jewish and democratic" is really all about.

"AlienStock" was cancelled due to "lack of infrastructure, poor planning, risk management and blatant disregard for the safety of 10,000+ ... attendees."

Looks like no one will be seeing strange lights in the Nevada desert after all.

The "AlienStock" music festival, which was being organized in conjunction with the viral "Storm Area 51" Facebook event, has been cancelled.

"We are not interested in, nor will we tolerate any involvement in a FYREFEST 2.0," reads a statement posted yesterday on the festival's website, citing "lack of infrastructure, poor planning, risk management and blatant disregard for the safety of the expected 10,000+ AlienStock attendees."

The festival was being organized in part by Matty Roberts, the creator of the original joke Facebook page. It was set to take place Sept. 20-22 in the town of Rachel, Nevada.

The small town with about 70 residents has just one business, a motel called Little A'Le'Inn.

John Bolton's moustache may be more famous than he is
US National Security Advisor John Bolton's departure from the Trump administration has been met with a mix of joy from the MAGA crowd and protests from dedicated neocons, but also with an avalanche of memes.

President Donald Trump announced Bolton's dismissal by tweet on Tuesday, saying he had "disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions," presumably meaning his advocacy for military-enforced regime change in Syria, Venezuela, North Korea and Iran. Bolton insisted that he attempted to resign before Trump's announcement.

Explosion at US embassy in Kabul on 9/11 anniversary

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul
A rocket exploded at the Afghan Defense Ministry complex near the U.S. Embassy in Kabul on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks in the United States.

No injuries were reported at both locations, according to the AP and AFP news agencies.

"A rocket hit a wall at the Defense Ministry, with no casualties reported," Interior Ministry spokesman Nosrat Rahimi said in a statement.

Inside the embassy, employees heard the following message over the loudspeaker: "An explosion caused by a rocket has occurred on compound."

"We can confirm there was an explosion near the U.S. Embassy in Kabul," a State Department official said. "U.S. [diplomatic] mission personnel were not directly impacted by this explosion."

The blast comes on the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States that ushered in the war in Afghanistan, and just after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that peace talks with the Taliban were "dead."
