Two police officers who wish to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation say that James Wesley Howell, an Indiana man who was found with a car full of explosives and weapons on Sunday morning, told police he was part of a team that planned shooting attacks on gay communities in Florida and California.

Howell told police he was turning himself in because he wanted protection. His story was that he had been assured by his recruiters that he would not be harmed in the shooting but, when he heard on the news that Omar Mateen, the lead gunman in the Orlando group, had been killed by sniper fire, he realized he was being set up as a patsy and would be killed.

Soon after that, the FBI took over the investigation, and information to the public was filtered to remove any facts that might show the Orlando shooting as a planned event involving others.

We mourn with Orlando, Florida. We mourn as witnesses of the largest massacre on this continent since Wounded Knee in 1890.

In this mourning, we also see that we are galvanized by our sadness to rally together as small communities dotting the earth, as people rooted in our local places, our homes. We are inspired to undo systemic violence, which is why G4S stock prices fell when people learned that the Orlando shooter was an employee of the company. It is a sign that the world sees the direct links between corporate profit and mass violence.

We know that our struggles against supremacy and oppression are interconnected. We work for Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA), which is an organization working for justice in Palestine, and we are proud that this Christian organization stands in solidarity and mourning with our LGBTQ sisters and brothers.

Comment: Interestingly, G4S responded to pressure from the BDS movement: earlier this year they cancelled all their Israeli contracts, to be put into effect in 2017. On May 22 of this year, Public Security and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan warned that companies like G4S "that take such politically-motivated decisions must pay a price, and they will." One thing's for sure, G4S is paying a price.

About a hundred of Moscow's homeless are going to take part in a rehabilitation 'summer camp' program.

The homeless will be able to undergo a comprehensive rehabilitation program at a camp established on June 17 on the shores of Oka River in the vicinity of Moscow by a joint effort of the city administration and the charity NGO Mercy House.

Approximately 100 homeless people who voluntarily agreed to take part in the program will live in the camp where a team of clergymen, psychologists and drug therapists will attempt to help them deal with their problems and change their lifestyle, according to the Izvestia newspaper.

EgyptAir MS804 flight data recorder recovered

The flight data recorder from EgyptAir's flight MS804, which crashed en route from Paris to Cairo on May 19, has been recovered, the Egyptian Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee said Friday.

"After the success in retrieving the cockpit voice recorder of the doomed A320; John Lethbridge, the vessel contracted by the Egyptian Government; has managed to retrieve the second black box which is the flight data recorder," the committee said in a progress report.

The two black boxes are being transported to Alexandria, where they will be handed over to the investigation committee and the general prosecution.

It's an alarming trend that may have America's dads and husbands standing watch outside their daughters' and wives' dressing rooms: Barely months after Target announced its plan to let men enter women's facilities, teenage girls and women across America are catching creepy men secretly filming them while they change clothes.

New reports of Target's peeping toms have surfaced in North Dakota, Massachusetts, Texas and Ohio.

According to a 16-year-old girl who visited a Target in Bismark, North Dakota, a man positioned a phone under her door with the camera facing up.

"When she walked out, the man entered a different dressing room," reported WDAY-6 in Fargo, North Dakota.

Twelve girls found in home of Pennsylvania man -- the oldest sold by her parents

Twelve girls, aged between six months and 18 years, were found in a Pennsylvania house. Its owner, now an accused sex offender, is suspected of sexually assaulting one of the girls for at least three years, fathering two of her children.

The 18-year-old told police that two of the 12 discovered girls are her daughters, a six-month-old and a 3-year-old. She also said the homeowner, Lee Kaplan, is the birth father.

"This child gave birth to two other children through an inappropriate relationship," Lower Southampton Lieutenant John Krimmel said, according to Philadelphia NBC-affiliate WCAU.

Kaplan, 51, has been taken into custody at his residence on the 400 block of Old Street Road in Feasterville after police received an anonymous complaint about child abuse in the house.

Chemical spill sickens workers at Willy Wonka plant

Gallons of chemical solution have been spilt at Nestle's Willy Wonka candy plant, sickening nearly 20 workers and forcing an evacuation. Hours later, 11 people were hospitalized for respiratory issues, and hazardous material crews were dispatched.

The spill struck the Willy Wonka Candy Factory in Itasca, Illinois around 10:00 pm on Thursday, when nearly 50 workers were in the factory. The employees managed to contain the leak, but hours later, some reported health issues, officials said.

Hazmat crews from the Itasca Fire Protection District were dispatched to the scene at around 1:30 am on Friday.

Loan sharks across the globe have never had a reputation for being shining models of ethics, but it appears as though some web-based private lenders in China have sunk to a new level of depravity -- demanding nude photos of female borrowers as collateral.

The lenders are reportedly asking for photos of female-student borrowers' government-issued identification cards in addition to the naked photos, which they promise to release to the public should they default on their massively high interest loans.

In addition to the photos, they also demanded personal information such as phone numbers, parents names, contacts for their roommates, and their school's registration information — all of which they threatened to make public.

One of the women who fell victim to the scheme spoke to state-run newspaper Southern Metropolis Daily and explained that she isn't alone, but others are afraid to speak out due to the shame.

In the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in the United States in recent history, a Tennessee lawmaker is giving away two AR-15's, a weapon used in many mass shootings, as prizes at a campaign fundraiser.

Last week, prior to the tragic event in Florida, Representative Andy Holt announced that he would be giving away an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle at his event, which will feature a turkey shoot at his farm on June 25. In the wake of Saturday's shooting which left 49 dead and another 53 injured, he announced that he would give away two of the deadly weapons. Guests are also urged to bring their own weapons and ammunition to the fundraiser.

"It was a bullet that stopped the terrorist," Holt said in a Facebook post following the attack.

Holt believes that the answer to the nation's mass shooting problem is to arm everyone, and it appears that he will be giving away both weapons to winners who will not be required to have a background check to receive their deadly prize.

"I want you to arm yourselves and learn to shoot with deadly accuracy should the need arise," he told the Tennessean.

Oakland police department goes through two chiefs in one week

Paul Figueroa, who became Oakland's Police Chief on Wednesday, was removed from his position on Friday. His term began when he replaced Interim Chief Ben Fairow, who began his term last Friday after Police Chief Sean Whent resigned.

Oakland's game of police-chief musical chairs continues as the third interim chief was removed from his position on Friday, the Los Angeles Times reported. A source for Bay Area channel KRON passed on a statement from Figueroa, reading:
"I have informed the Mayor and City Administrator that I cannot fulfill the functions of the Acting Chief of Police for the City of Oakland and I am stepping aside to take leave. When I return, I am exercising my right to return to Captain and I will continue to serve the Oakland Community, the Community I care deeply for. I thank the city for the opportunity and I am deeply sorry that I was unable to fulfill the functions of Acting Chief of Police."
Sources told KRON that Figueroa resigned because he did not want intense scrutiny on his personal life. He will not be returning to his former position as a captain, either.
