The annual American Time Use Survey was released last week, and provoked the same question it does every year: How the hell do you people get so much sleep?

The average American, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics project, is getting eight hours and 50 minutes of sleep—an entire Lord of the Rings trilogy of shut-eye!—every night.

The report has good news for television (including Netflix), which retains its dominant role in American life, occupying two hours and 50 minutes of the average day. And bad news for reading, which takes up just 8 minutes in the average weekend day of a 15-to-24-year-old. In short, younger millennials are basically reading the back of the cereal box and nothing else.

A man has shot dead five people, including his wife, and injured another 20 at a Serbian cafe.

The man entered the cafe in the town of Žitište, about 50 miles (80km) north of Belgrade, and opened fire with an automatic rifle, a police statement said.

Named only as ZS by police, the man was seen arguing with his wife in the cafe before leaving the building and returning with a Kalashnikov-style gun.

A bomb exploded outside the Prophet's Mosque in the Saudi city of Medina - one of the holiest sites in Islam - on Monday night. The bomber himself, and at least three security officers were killed in the blast.

Shocking and horrific stories from around the USA this week as the police everywhere are becoming unhinged and violent. The above photograph comes from Memphis, TN, where 19-year-old Hannah Cohen was attempting to travel home through the airport when she was violently attacked by TSA and airport police.

Hannah was returning home after successfully completely treatment for a brain tumor from St Jude's Hospital. After setting off a metal detector, she was pulled aside for further screening, which is where things went downhill. Being blind in one eye, partially deaf and somewhat paralyzed, Hannah was confused and scared as she had no idea what was happening to her. When her mother tried to explain, common sense was left by the wayside as protocol indicated Hannah was 'dangerous.'

Resisting their attempts at manhandling, Hannah was thrust to the ground when she hit her head. The above picture is the result. She was then arrested and spent a night in jail before being released without charges. This entire scene could have been avoided with just a little discretion and two-drops of common sense, but apparently that's not something Memphis TSA and airport police are trained in.

Saudi Arabia has been ruled as an absolute monarchy since its foundation

Two time synchronized suicide attacks have been reported near the el-Omran Shia mosque in Qatif City and near the Prophet Muhammad's mosque in Medina. Residents report hearing multiple explosions at each location. Tasnim News Agency confirmed six innocent people died in the blasts including two security officers and four pilgrims. Separately, Saudi's Arabiya TV confirmed at least two terrorists died in suicide blasts. The mosque is Islam's second holiest site and one of the largest mosques in the world.

​Initial reports indicate that mass casualty events were averted due to the brave actions of security officials who would not allow the terrorists to enter the religious facilities forcing the attackers to instead blow themselves up outside the mosques.

Blast outside US consulate service in Saudi Arabia as police stop bomber

Saudi Arabia's security forces shot dead a suicide bomber outside of the US consulate service in the port city of Jeddah, local media reported. The attacker was killed while trying to detonate himself as Americans kicked off 4th of July celebrations.

Two police officers were injured during the attack, according to state TV.

The assailant parked his car outside a hospital near the consulate at about 2:15 a.m. local time (July 3, 2315 GMT). His device detonated shortly afterward.

In the state of New Jersey being murdered 'does not meet threshold for loan forgiveness' in an only in America story of heartless profiteering on the back of a grieving mother.

"Please accept our condolences on your loss," explained a letter from the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority of New Jersey. "After careful consideration of the information you provided the authority has determined that your request does not meet the threshold for loan forgiveness. Monthly bill statements will continue to be sent to you."

This is the letter that Marcia DeOliveira-Longinetti received when she applied to get a student loan forgiven after her 23-year-old son was murdered last year. The mother inherited nearly $20,000 in student debt on loans she cosigned on to ensure the young man could attend the University of Vermont in hopes that he may enjoy a middle-class lifestyle — hopes that were dashed all too soon.

"We're not going to be poor because of this," she explained. "But every time I have to pay this thing, I think in my head this is so unfair."

13yo made up 'refugee sex attack' story that led to temporary ban at Austrian swimming pool

The story of a 13-year-old girl being sexually assaulted by a "dark-skinned" man in an Austrian swimming pool was apparently invented by the girl herself, police said. The hoax prompted the authorities to issue a temporary pool ban for refugees.

The schoolgirl was since interviewed by several times by police and finally on Wednesday she admitted that the whole incident had been invented, local media cited police.

The girl's story, which took place in the Austrian town of Mistelbach, hit the headlines back in June.

The teenager claimed that she was first followed by a young man into the women's changing room. Once there, he forced her to perform oral sex. The girl however fiercely resisted and started shouting, forcing the attacker to flee.

According to the would-be 'victim', the man was a "foreigner."

A self-proclaimed 'strong advocate for law enforcement' is being attacked for criticizing the practice of no-knock warrants, where SWAT teams burst into homes with no warning—often in the middle of the night—to apprehend suspects and search the premises.

Georgia Sen. Mike Crane is running in the state's Republican primary to replace U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland. Any politician seeking office in that very "conservative" state must pledge their support to cops and authority figures. But Crane, being a strict constitutionalist, believes that no-knock warrants are illegal and unjust.

Even this small capitulation to freedom is too much for Mike Jolley, one of eight sheriffs who have endorsed Crane's opponent, Drew Ferguson. As part of their strategy to paint Crane as a weak supporter of law enforcement, they released a short video clip where the state Senator is speaking strongly against no-knock warrants.

UK veterans blast 'war of aggression' ahead of Chilcot's Iraq war report

A UK veterans' group has blasted the 2003 Iraq conflict as a "war of aggression" waged on the Iraqi people ahead of the publication of the Chilcot report on Wednesday.

Veterans for Peace UK (VFPUK), which is reported to contain up to 400 armed forces veterans from Britain's recent conflicts, has criticized the country's establishment over the war. It is the first public intervention by an ex-services organization on the issue.

"Whatever Chilcot says, this country and its armed forces executed a war of aggression on the people of Iraq," the group claimed in a statement seen in advance by RT and due for release Monday evening.
