At least nine people were killed as a suicide bomber drove an explosive-laden car into a hotel in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu. Police also said there was a hostage situation at a restaurant adjacent to the hotel.

"So far, we can confirm that nine people - mostly women who were hotel staff - have died," police officer Mohamed Hussein told Reuters.

He said that a terrorist drove his car into the entrance of the Posh Hotel in the center of the city.

Police, cited by AP, said that following the blast, the gunmen got into the Pizza House, taking dozens of visitors hostage.

Two organizations have come out in support of banning smoking on all outdoor restaurant and bar patios in Winnipeg.

The Canadian Cancer Society and Manitoba Tobacco Reduction Alliance (MANTRA) will appear before the city's standing policy committee on protection, community services and parks today in support of a ban.

Winnipeg is the last major city in the country without such a smoking ban on outdoor patios.

"The time for study and consultation is over," said Erin Crawford, the Canadian Cancer Society's senior director of public issues and community engagement.

"Winnipeg is being left behind. The science is clear and hundreds of communities throughout Canada that have already implemented this sort of ban."

A man suspected of having neo-Nazi links has confessed to driving his car into a crowd of rejected Iraqi asylum seekers who were protesting against their deportation in the Swedish city of Malmo. Police have opened a hate crime investigation.

The man, 22, whose identity has not been revealed, admitted that he had driven his car into the crowd of asylum seekers, who rallied outside the Swedish Migration Agency office in Malmo on two occasions last weekend.

The perpetrator's car had a Nazi symbol on it, police confirmed to local media. A video obtained by Swedish national public broadcaster SVT Nyheter shows the car with a Nazi eagle and swastika on its front.

No one was injured in the two incidents, which took place on Saturday, June 10, and on the evening of Sunday, June 11. However, during the latter incident the assailant eventually crashed into a tree after driving over a number of placards and banners placed by the protesters in front of the migration office.

The man was then forced to barricade himself in the car as it was surrounded by angry protesters, who kept him inside until police arrived. He was then detained and questioned.

"He said he's doing it to make a point. That he does not think they [Iraqis] should be in the country," Sandra Persson, a police investigator, told the Swedish Aftonbladet daily, adding that it was a "clear hate crime."

Lars Foerstell, a press communications officer at the Malmo police department, also confirmed that the man had two knives in his possession, adding that he had also used pepper spray against the protesters.

Florida cop who killed someone, beat teen and abused mentally ill man within just three months gets 'paid vacation'

Florida cop Timothy James
Picture this. A sergeant with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) calls another police officer to a local gas station because his vehicle is big enough to transport two brothers who'd just been arrested. When officer Timothy James arrived to lend a helping hand to his fellow boy in blue, he decided he'd give a knuckle sandwich to one of the teenaged suspects in the back of his squad car.

He repeatedly punched one of the arrested and handcuffed teens, a 17-year-old child, in the face. According to the reports, James climbed into the back seat of his patrol car, where the teens were waiting and handcuffed, and began punching one of the brothers in the face. The sergeant saw it all from his own patrol car and then, like a good cop is supposed to do, he arrested James.

Jesus Campos, the eldest brother, said,
"I hope my brother's all right," and added, "I never thought this would happen to my brothers."
As of this story's publication, he still did not know how his brother was doing, following the reported attack.

Unions representing journalists at more than 20 French media outlets including AFP, BFMTV, Libération and Le Monde say the government of President Emmanuel Macron is showing "extremely worrying" signs of hostility towards media independence.

"Faced with the freedom to inform, the new government has chosen to pressure [media outlets]," read a statement by the chapters of the Societe des Journalistes (SDJ) association, released by AFP on Tuesday.

The government of the newly-elected French president is sending "worrying signals" concerning "media independence" and "protection of sources," the commentary added.

Austin Jones
A 24-year-old suburban Chicago singer with millions of teenage followers online faces child pornography charges for allegedly instructing two young female fans via social media to make sexually explicit videos of themselves and send them to him, according to a federal complaint released Tuesday.

Austin Jones of Bloomingdale appeared in U.S. District Court in Chicago wearing orange jail clothes and ankle chains. Asked by U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Mason if he understood he's charged with two counts of production of child pornography, he answered quietly, "Yes, your honor."

The fans are referred to in the complaint as "Victim A" and "Victim B," and they were around 14 years old when Jones allegedly encouraged them to make the videos by — in one instance — telling one he wanted her to prove what she said about being his "biggest fan," the complaint said.

Some of Jones' music videos have garnered millions of views on YouTube and he's parlayed his online popularity into tours, most recently to parts of Europe. He does original music and also covers the work of Justin Bieber and others. He has 228,000 Twitter followers and his "primary fan base appears to be teenage girls," the complaint said.

Will people line up like lemmings to get their brains hacked? (VIDEO)

mind control
The ability to hack the human brain like a computer might seem far-fetched to some, but it's something we have covered extensively here at Activist Post. The possibility has even prompted a Nevada senator to seek legal restrictions on microchip implants.

The fact is that neuroscientists have been studying various methods of creating brain-computer interfaces for quite some time. Naturally, the benefits get touted, but there also has been a clear move by the military to use this as a high-tech form of direct mind control.

Melissa Dykes covers the research and the reasons why people will likely be conditioned to accept brain hacks in the future.

Off-duty Sheriff goes nuts and attacks innocent college kid, then threatens cop who stops it

Sheriff goes nuts
In April, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed into law a "Blue Lives Matter" bill which bumps up the penalty for striking an off-duty police officer from a potential misdemeanor to a felony. But the following story coming out of Texas serves to illustrate just how awful the law will likely be for those who find themselves in a scuffle with a cop after hours.

Ellis County Sheriff Johnny Brown, along with his brother Bobby, were celebrating his recent re-election this past New Years with a trip to a nearby Midlothian Whataburger. After allegedly pulling up too closely to another vehicle, words were exchanged with the driver and other occupants.

The heated argument led into the burger joint and escalated to a point where Bobby, the Sheriff's brother, decided he'd had enough jaw jacking, and took a swing at 21-year-old Caleb Tomgenovich, initiating an attack which appeared one-sided. The brothers were on a rampage.

Seeing his brother Bobby hurting a fellow citizen, Sheriff Brown jumped right in, punching one of Tomgenovich's friends in the face. After the melee, police arrived and broke it up, but not before Midlothian Police Officer Aaron Walters had a few critical words for the Sheriff.
