Twenty-five ways why supporting your local police is like supporting tyranny

police stop
"Law and order" conservatives: When they are right, they are so right; but when they are wrong, they are so wrong.

They are right when they decry the militarization of local police. They are right to point out that the DOD 1033 program has transferred over $5 billion worth of military equipment from the Defense Department to local police forces. They are right to oppose more federal laws and mandates relating to local police. They are right to oppose a federal police "czar" like the Congressional Black Caucus has called for. They are right to oppose nationalizing the local police. They are right to point out that the Constitution only provides for the federal government to punish the crimes of treason, piracy, and counterfeiting. They are right to decry all the federal police in the alphabet soup of federal agencies. They are right to oppose making the police like a branch of the U.S. armed forces. They are right to oppose federal funding of local law enforcement. They are right to oppose federal control over local law enforcement.

But does this mean that Americans should always support their local police? To the contrary, most of the problems with local police have nothing to do with the federal government.

Oops: France's Le Figaro poll finds over 70% want Syria's Assad to remain in power

A recent poll carried out by France's Le Figaro newspaper has indicated that at least 72 percent of respondents want Syrian President Bashar Assad to remain in power.

The survey, published on Thursday, asked: "Should world powers demand Bashar Assad to leave?" At least 28 percent from 21,314 respondents have voted "Yes" so far, while the majority - 72 percent - have said "No".

The poll was conducted ahead of the Vienna talks, where 19 global powers gathered to find a solution for a nationwide ceasefire in Syria. The fate of Assad remained the stumbling block during discussions.

Comment: Most of the "global powers" will, of course, ignore what the people think or want.

Comment: Oh my, the West's propaganda on Russia and Syria is not working too well.

Pedophile Jared Fogle given free reign to abuse while FBI sat on the case for over four years

jared fogle FBI
In August, we learned the shocking truth that a familiar face on television—Jared Fogle, the Subway guy—was a pedophile who used his wealth, status, and secrecy to exploit kids.

Fogle pleaded guilty to having sex with two minors and possessing homemade child pornography, although there were many more victims. He agreed to a plea deal where he will serve 5 to 12.5 years in prison and pay $1.4 million in restitution to his victims.

The story was reignited two days ago when the New York Post revealed the contents of secretly recorded audio tapes. In them, Fogle's perversions are laid bare.

"I would fly us clear across the world if we need to. To Thailand or wherever we want to go. If we're gonna try to get some young kids with us it would be a lot easier," said 38-year-old Fogle, married father of two, in the tapes. "I had a little boy. It was amazing. It just felt so good. I mean, it felt — it felt so good."

Comment: Convictions against pedophiles are notoriously lacking and, if they do happen, shamefully lenient. This is undoubtedly due to the fact that those in the criminal justice system as well as high level government bureaucrats and politicians are frequently part of pedophile rings themselves. They protect their own.

UN reports criminal behavior of staff members: Child porn, assault, abusive conduct and theft

un criminal behavior
Four UN staff members have been "dismissed" after storing and sharing pornographic images including those of children, a UN report revealed. It also mentions one member having been fired for transporting over 170 kg worth of pot.

These five cases are the most outrageous out of 75 disciplinary and "criminal behavior" matters that the United Nations has listed in its report that came to light on Friday.

According to the UN investigation, four of its members "stored" and "distributed" pornographic material, including "pornography involving a minor."

The UN labeled the cases as having been a "misuse" of its information and communications technology resources; in all four cases staffers used the organization's computers and emails.

The paper does not disclose either names of those behind the misbehavior nor when the incidents took place.

Another incident involved a man who decided to use a UN vehicle to transport 173 kg (381 lbs) of marijuana. The report gives no further details, but it is clear from it that the staffer was sacked over the "misuse of United Nations property or assets".

Comment: This is hardly behavior representative of an organization whose promulgated mission includes humanitarian and human rights issues. These revelations along with the farcical appointment of Saudi Arabia to head the UN Human Rights council and the history of abuse by 'peacekeeping forces' betray the level of ponerization of the entire organization.

Joint task force arrest 29 people on sex trafficking charges in 13 cities, 8 states

Federal authorities arrested 29 people in 13 cities across eight states on sex trafficking charges, as part of a sweeping southern states operation called "Safe Haven," according to US officials.

The undercover operation involved a loosely affiliated operation that coordinated the movement of Latino females throughout the southeast of the US, according to authorities. The traffickers within the operation were independent operators who coordinated the delivery of women for sexual purposes.

"Human sex trafficking is a cancer that we must cut out, and then aggressively fight with all of our resources," US Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia Michael Moore said in a released statement.

Comment: It seems like these low level raids keep happening but have little impact on the whole of stopping human trafficking. Perhaps if these same government agencies started going after the larger rings that involve the rich and powerful, maybe then we'd see some real progress in the removal of this cancer from society.

Fines be damned: Beverly Hills fails to conserve water use amid California drought

Beverly Hills is in hot water, facing a hefty fine and public shaming for not conserving as much water as drought-stricken California standards require. Although the affluent city isn't alone in using too much water, it is the only violator not located in a desert.

"You should be ashamed of yourselves," Chris Carrigan, director of the California State Water Resources Board, said of Beverly Hills locals wasting water in a press conference call. Carrigan also said he was "sure" there were other residents being "very conscientious and doing their part."

It's unclear how Beverly Hills will pay the $61,000 fine. Residents may see an increase in their water bills even if the utility or municipality have reserve funds for such occasions. The same can be said of the three other communities facing the same fine: Indio, Redlands and the Coachella Valley Water District.

Intense clashes have engulfed West Bank and Gaza Strip resulting in almost a hundred of injuries and several deaths. Israeli forces used live rounds and tear gas to push back violent Palestinian youths who pelted the officers with stones and Molotov cocktails.

Vicious violence in the Gaza strip left at least 46 Palestinians injured after Israeli forces confronted the Molotov-cocktail propelling youth, a spokesperson for the Gaza Ministry of Health, Ashraf al-Qidra, told Ma'an news agency.

Comment: Israel and Palestine are finding themselves in a really explosive situation that is escalating. This will demand world attention.

Two-seat long-range supersonic interceptor MiG-31
Both pilots of the MiG-31 fighter jet that earlier crashed in the Kamchatka Territory have been evacuated to the Yelizovo airdrome by the search and rescue service of the Eastern Military District. Rescuers arrived at the site where the pilots had been spotted as soon as the weather improved, the Defense Ministry's press and information service told TASS.

"Doctors briefly examined the rescued pilots to conclude there was no risk to their lives," the statement said.

After the MiG-31 crew ejected themselves their location was identified by an Ilyushin-38 reconnaissance plane, which picked up the signal from the distress beacon.

The fighter jet disappeared from the radar screens in the Eastern Military district at 18:38 Moscow time, when it was on the way back to the air base in the Kamchatka Territory after a routine training flight.

The MiG-31 is a two-seat long-range supersonic interceptor, capable of attacking any air targets round the clock in any weather.

Search and rescue officer says all 224 passengers and crew on flight from Sharm el-Sheikh likely to have died in Sinai crash

A Russian plane carrying more than 200 passengers from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh has crashed in central Sinai with all on board feared dead.

The jet, operated by the Russian company Kogalymavia and branded as Metrojet, was "completely destroyed with all on board likely to have died", a security officer from the search and rescue team said.

Destined for St Petersburg, the flight was carrying 224 people, including 17 children and seven crew members.

The crash site was found on Saturday morning in southern Arish, a mountainous area of central Sinai, but poor weather conditions were making it difficult for rescue crews to reach the scene, the security officer said.

Northern Sinai is home to groups of Islamist militants, many affiliated to Islamic State, but there were no indications the plane was shot down, Egyptian security sources told Reuters.

A statement from the Egyptian prime minister's office said Sherif Ismail had formed a cabinet-level crisis committee to deal with the crash, which was believed to have been caused by a mechanical failure.

The plane, which had a tail number of EI-ETJ, lost contact 23 minutes after takeoff while flying at more than 30,000 ft above sea level, according to the plane tracker website Flight Radar. It had begun to make a steep descent at a rate of 6,000 feet per minute shortly before communications were lost.

A Russian plane carrying 217 passengers and 7 crew members on board has crashed near Nekhel in the north of Sinai, Egypt confirmed Saturday, Reuters, RT, Sputnik report.

According to a security official at the scene, the airliner is completely destroyed and all passengers are feared dead.

The plane went down in a mountainous area in central Sinai and poor weather has made it difficult for rescue crews to get to the scene, the official said. Survivors and bodies of those on board will be flown to Cairo, he said.

There are no indications that the Russian Airbus was shot down, Egyptian security sources said.

Egypt's North Sinai is home to a two-year-old Islamist insurgency and militants affiliated to Islamic State have killed hundreds of soldiers and police.
