Ben Carson admitted Friday that he lied about earning a prestigious scholarship to West Point while controversy over the validity of his troubled kid-to-renowned doctor narrative reached a crescendo.

The 2016 GOP candidate said he fabricated a part of his 1996 autobiography, Gifted Hands, in which he claimed he was given a "full scholarship" to the U.S. Military Academy just hours after he rebuked accusations that he lied about his violent outbursts as a child and teenager.

In the nearly 20-year-old book, Carson boasted about his transformation from rage-filled boy to refined neurosurgeon, describing how he once tried to hit his mother with a hammer and attempted to stab one of his friends to death.

His former classmates, however, said they don't remember the Republican as a rough kid.

Comment: What could Ben Carson possibly have to gain from weaving such tales? Is he a pathological liar?

More Syrians learning Russian language

Grateful for Russia's support in the fight against the jihadists, Syrians are now flocking to learn Russian, RIA Novosti reports.

With a second foreign language compulsory for study in Syrian schools, RIA Novosti has found that Russian, introduced as an option in some parts of the country a year ago, is quickly gaining popularity, especially in the coastal province of Latakia, where the Russian military contingent assigned to assist the Syrian armed forces is based.

The country's school system, with 11 grades plus a 12th grade for those wishing to go to college or university, features mandatory English-language instruction in the first seven grades. From seventh grade on, the children choose a second foreign language.

Until recently, most chose French; Syria has a historical connection with France, having served as its colony for much of the first half of the 20th century following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in the First World War. Since last year, young Syrians now have the choice of choosing Russian instead.

Many have, especially in the country's northwest province of Latakia, home to the Russian airbase at Hmeymim. Mohammed Kazak, the Head of the Department of Education of the Latakia Governate, told RIA Novosti that "from September of this year, about 4,500 students have chosen to study Russian in our province."

According to the official, Russian has become particularly popular in the city of Latakia itself, as well Jableh, a city in the province's south.

Why won't the American people listen to the warnings? David Stockman was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977 to 1981, and he served as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1985. These days, he is running a website called "Contra Corner" which I highly recommend that you check out. Stockman believes that a global "debt super-cycle" that has been building for decades is now bursting, and he is convinced that the consequences for the U.S. and for the rest of the planet will be absolutely catastrophic. His findings are very consistent with what I have been writing about on The Economic Collapse Blog, and if Stockman is correct the times ahead of us are going to be exceedingly painful.

But right now, most people don't seem to be in the mood to listen to these types of warnings. Even though there is a mountain of evidence that the global economy has already plunged into recession, U.S. stocks had a great month in October, and so most Americans seem to think that the crisis has passed.

Comment: This crisis has been brewing for years. Virtually every aspect of Western society has gone into decay, and, instead of solutions, the 'elite' demonstrate a nearly homicidal urge to sacrifice everything and everyone for their short-term profits. Also see:

After several months of weak and deteriorating payrolls prints, perhaps the biggest tell today's job number would surprise massively to the upside came yesterday from Goldman, which as we noted earlier, just yesterday hiked its forecast from 175K to 190K. And while as Brown Brothers said after the report that it is "difficult to find the cloud in the silver lining" one clear cloud emerges when looking just a little deeper below the surface.

That cloud emerges when looking at the age breakdown of the October job gains as released by the BLS' Household Survey. What it shows is that while total jobs soared, that was certainly not the case in the most important for wage growth purposes age group, those aged 25-54.

As the chart below shows, in October the age group that accounted for virtually all total job gains was workers aged 55 and over. They added some 378K jobs in the past month, representing virtually the entire increase in payrolls. And more troubling: workers aged 25-54 actually declined by 35,000, with males in this age group tumbling by 119,000!

Comment: So this 'stunning' jobs report hides what the true US employment situation really is. This is not what a 'strong' economy looks like. Does this data report justify a FED rate hike coming soon?

Russians have reacted with anger after the French satirical magazine published caricatures of the Russian passenger aircraft crashing in Egypt. Social media in Russia has erupted in fury at the portrayal, with users condemning its publication by Charlie Hebdo.

One Twitter user questioned why the staff at Charlie Hebdo had not printed a cartoon of the members of their team had been shot by jihadists in Paris in January. The user added sarcastically, "That would have been really funny for them."

Others said that people should just start to "ignore" these "disgusting provocations," as their creators are trying to "provoke a reaction."


Comment: Once again Charlie Hebdo proves itself to be conscienceless and that its supposed satire is really just sadism.

Do you know Wedad Saqa? I didn't think you would. Wedad is not a war profiteer or a mercenary "leader" posing in photographs to support American-style democracy. She is not a blood-thirsty politician standing before thousands of people to speak about the importance of "ending wars". She is not a white, privileged, CEO male giving advice about Western "meritocracy", "success", or about creating a healthy and balanced work place. She is not a Hollywood actress who has entered into a Faustian contract with the devil in exchange for a bubble of fame and millions of dollars to aid in the production of propaganda and the creation of certain images and discourses about "the other", and who tries to atone for all that by adopting a few orphans from African countries.

She is not a bourgeois lady who has swallowed a pre-recorded script with the acceptable sentences and social skills to broadcast in every cocktail party. She is not a rich donor wearing a real fur coat and scarf with tons of makeup at a "charity" event filled with glutted people, held under the banner of supporting causes such as "women's rights", charity for the "less fortunate", scholarships for the "underprivileged and underrepresented" students, or "salvaging" war victims, the hungry, and the refugees, after destroying their countries by the same actors.

Comment: "Wedad is like millions of Arab women—and other women around the world—striving to maintain their dignity. Fighting to love and protect their children from pain, need, injustice, wars, exile, and death, at any cost."

Bonfire capital of the world, Lewes in Sussex, southern England, has set fire to its biggest ever 'Guy' on Thursday marking the anniversary of Guy Fawkes' plot to blow up London's houses of parliament in 1605 while poking fun at Britain's Prime Minister.

A giant statue of a naked David Cameron with a pig's head on his lap wearing union jack boxing shorts was paraded through the streets of Lewes.

Comment: If the allegations against Cameron are true, it would be no surprise. Perverts are in power in the UK, and they use their own perversion to blackmail one another:
Regarding the initiation rituals of various 'elites', they serve the purpose of 'binding' them to secret societies, clubs and cults that both reward and control their subjects over the course of their future careers. It may be worth considering whether this information is being made public now in order to exert pressure on Cameron and his government; a little reminder, perhaps, that 'we can destroy you'...

Anonymous releases list of 1,000 alleged KKK members, saying some are 'dangerous, sociopathic'

Activists from the Anonymous group have released a list of about 1,000 alleged Ku Klux Klan (KKK) sympathizers on the internet. The group said the data dump was a "form of resistance against the violence and intimidation tactics" used by members of KKK groups throughout history.

According to the hacktivist group, it began compiling the list about 11 months ago, following the killing of Michael Brown, the 18-year-old African American fatally shot by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri, last August.

Last year the KKK pledged to use "deadly force" against those protesting the killing of the teen.

News headlines this week of epidemic drug abuse and mortality among Americans confirm what many observers have already noted - America is in bad, bad shape.

But despite the media coverage, there was little commentary on the backdrop to the malaise. American society is collapsing because of an epic failure in the economy.

Reports dwelt on the types of drugs being used and metabolic diseases, such as diabetes, but there was scant attention given to soaring poverty and social misery. Could this be because the US media, like the government, is covering for what should be the "big story"? The bankruptcy of American capitalism. And when we say "bankrupt" we mean not just a protracted downturn in the "business cycle" - but rather the entire system mired in a condition of historic, terminal failure.

The Washington Post headlined: "Nearly 60 percent of Americans — the highest ever — are taking prescription drugs". Reporting on a study by the Journal of the American Medical Association, the article revealed: "Nearly three in five American adults take a prescription drug, up markedly since 2000 because of much higher use of almost every type of medication, including antidepressants and treatments for high cholesterol and diabetes."

Based on the same study, NBC News headlined: "More Americans than ever use prescription drugs". The channel reported that "the percentage of people taking prescription drugs rose from51 percent of the adult population in 1999 to 59 percent in 2011."

Meanwhile, the London-based Financial Times, reporting on a separate study also published this week, ran this grim headline: "White, middle-aged, uneducated and dying". The FT said: "Drug and alcohol abuse and mental health issues in the US are contributing to an alarming surge in deaths among white middle-aged people, in a trend that has reversed decades of progress and is not being seen in other advanced economies."

Temples and synagogues affiliated with the nation's largest Jewish movement could adopt gender-neutral bathrooms and their rabbis would be encouraged to give sermons on transgender topics, under a groundbreaking resolution expected to pass at a conference of Reform Jews on Thursday.

The proposal features some of the most far-reaching policies for transgendered men and women seen among any of the nation's mainstream religious organizations, according to advocates for gay and transgendered rights.

It also has generated little discord within the movement of 1.5 million North America Jews affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism, the organization that will vote on the measure as part of its biennial conference in Orlando. "It's a big deal but at the same time it's not controversial for them at all," said Michael Toumayan of the national Human Rights Campaign, which advocates for gay rights.

The Episcopal Church and United Church of Christ also have adopted positions in support of transgender issues but the Reform Jewish movement's policy would go further by listing specific actions to promote inclusion, said Toumayan, manager for the civil rights group's religion and faith program.

Comment: The surface reforms and new inspirational perspectives, for the most part, appear as accommodational restrooms. Other topics, such as circumcision, name-changing, gender-neutral language are areas less defined. Reformed Judaism (1.5M) represents less than 2% of the US population, but more than one-third of US Jewish ideology. The Union of Reform Judaism passed a resolution affirming the rights of gays and lesbians in 1977.
