A young police officer has been injured after a man attacked him with a knife at a police station in Toulouse, France.

The suspect tried to grab the officer's weapon and when the attempt failed, he took a knife and stabbed him in the neck, according to a statement by the police trade union Unite SGP Police-FO. The officer's life is said not to be in danger.

The incident took place in the Rempart Saint-Etienne prefecture of Toulouse.

The assailant, 31, had a psychiatric disorder and attacked the officer because he "represented France," La Depeche du Midi news outlet reported.

The attacker, who had entered the police station under the pretext of making a complaint, was arrested at the scene.

Germany considers law forcing mothers to reveal children's biological fathers to their current partners

Germany has drafted legislation dubbed the 'milkmen's kids law', requiring mothers to tell their partners if children they support were conceived with other men. The move would make it easier to claim two-year support payments from biological fathers.

According to the bill, as quoted by Sueddeutsche Zeitung, a woman has to notify "upon request" a non-biological father taking care of her child if she "was attended [by another man] during the period of conception."

Justice Minister Heiko Maas, who advocated the bill, says the new legislation will make it easier for men who support a child to demand reimbursement from the biological father for a period of up to two years. Previously, this time frame was open-ended.

"We need to offer more legal protection for 'false' fathers to seek recourse," Maas said.

A court would then rule whether a mother could keep the biological father's identity a secret.

Water main break floods Upper West Side in Manhattan, car damaged in sinkhole

A water main break on the Upper West Side flooded nearby streets and basements, cut water to multiple apartment buildings, and sent an SUV plunging into an Amsterdam Avenue sinkhole.

The water line ruptured along Amsterdam, between 89th and 90th streets, on Monday night. The avenue was still closed between 88th and 91st streets Tuesday morning. M7 and M11 buses were diverted and traffic was pushed away.

A white BMW SUV was only partially visible at the 90th Street intersection, half of its body sunk beneath crumbled asphalt.

DEP crews were able to reroute the flow of water around at 11:30 p.m. but still needed to repair the broken water main ahead of the Tuesday morning rush. Crews were still working on the fix just before 6 a.m. Con Edison was at the scene as a precaution in case of any gas leaks.

The fire department checked basements in the area and found a number of them inundated with 5 to 6 feet of water.

"Be afraid!" UK churches warned to prepare for ISIS attacks

Terrorism experts fear supporters of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) will target churches in the UK after extremists attacked Catholic priests in Indonesia and France in recent weeks.

New counter-terrorism advice urges churches to prepare for similar attacks, including learning how to identify a semi-automatic weapon, how to challenge a suspicious person and how to take cover in the event of gunfire.

Religious institutions are described as "easy targets" in the new measures, which are being issued amid fears an attack "is coming."

The guidelines, called Counter Terrorism Advice for Churches, urge church leaders to be on alert for attackers, who are likely to be armed with knives.

Comment: The Western security services have finally had their wish come true. With people going off for random reasons, terror attacks happening all over the world, and the security services manufacturing false flags, people are scared, even justifiably so, to a degree. Sure, you're probably still more likely to die from heart disease, but the news-catching quality of these events has an effect on public perception. And when people face a threat they identify as coming from some external enemy, they naturally turn toward their corrupt leaders for protection, despite the fact that those very leaders created the threat in the first place.

Mylan CEO announces $300 generic EpiPen at 'only' 3x original price

epipen
In another attempt at quelling public outcry over the skyrocketing price of the lifesaving EpiPen, maker Mylan has announced that it will begin selling a generic version of its allergy medication injector ‒ at the low, low cost of $300.

EpiPen administers a quick dose of epinephrine to counter a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction known as anaphylactic shock. The easy-to-use injector is made by West Virginia-based Mylan Pharmaceuticals, which bought the rights to it in 2007. Since then, the price of the EpiPen has ballooned, going from $100 to $600.

On Monday, Mylan unveiled the generic version, noting that the auto-injector's "list price of $300" for each two-pack carton "represents a discount of more than 50 percent to the Mylan list price."

"We understand the deep frustration and concerns associated with the cost of EpiPen to the patient, and have always shared the public's desire to ensure that this important product be accessible to anyone who needs it," CEO Heather Bresch said in a statement. "Our decision to launch a generic alternative to EpiPen is an extraordinary commercial response."

The generic version will be identical to the branded one ‒ at both the 0.15-mg and 0.30-mg dosages ‒ and will be launched in "several weeks," after the company completes labeling revisions.

Passengers at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) frantically fled their terminals following reports of an active shooter on Sunday night. However, the LAPD has since confirmed that "loud noises" were responsible for the panic.

Multiple calls coming from multiple terminals suggested there were sounds of shooting at LAX, and police were quickly dispatched to the scene.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said people were possibly barricaded in bathrooms inside terminal 6, Culvercity311 reported on Twitter.

A report from LA County Scanner's Twitter account said the shooting was taking place at Terminal 8.

Comment: Looks like the American public has been brought to the proper pitch of fear and anxiety.

A skyscraper was engulfed in smoke as a massive fire swept through the 28-storey building currently under construction.

It took over two hours to bring the blaze, which started at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, under control. Thick smoke billowing from the building could be seen from all over the UAE capital.

Hundreds of workers, residents and people staying in hotels in the surrounding area were evacuated as a precaution, though there have been no reports of any injuries.

Photos and videos of the burning building were shared on social media by concerned locals. This is the fifth such fire to strike a UAE tower in the last 18 months, according to Reuters, and the cause of this blaze has yet to be determined.

Comment: There was another major skyscraper fire in Dubai in July this year, and in March before that. Altogether, this is the 7th major skyscraper fire in the UAE in just 4 years.

Supporters of the UK remaining in the EU have launched a crowdfunding effort to legally prevent Tory Prime Minister Theresa May initiating Brexit without a full vote on the issue by MPs in Parliament.

So far 1,400 people have contributed to the People's Challenge crowdfunder, bringing the total revenue to more than £50,000 (US$65,000). Head campaigner Grahame Pigney told the Press Association on Tuesday the campaign is for everyone - pro-EU or otherwise.

"What we're doing is on behalf of everybody - not just experts, not just on behalf of a few people interested in this, but 65 million citizens in the UK," he said.

"They all have these rights. Whether they use them or cherish them, they all have these rights and Parliament needs to make the decision rather than the government in some sectional, political interests.

"Yes sir he believes in God like me," said Juanita Gomez during her video arraignment. "Yes he's the best in town."

Illinois lawsuit claims pharma company Insys marketed opioid drug at high-volume prescribers

In a lawsuit filed by the state of Illinois, Insys Therapeutics Inc. has been accused of deceptive marketing practices involving a cancer drug and using "sham" speaking events to target doctors known to frequently prescribe opioid drugs.

The lawsuit filed late last week by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan alleges that Insys did not market its drug Subsys, designed and approved to manage cancer pain, to oncologists but rather to doctors with a reputation for high-volume approval of opioid prescriptions. Subsys is a spray that contains the synthetic opioid fentanyl; the drug generated nearly $330 million in 2015.

"This drug company's desire for increased profits led it to disregard patients' health and push addictive opioids for non-FDA approved purposes," Madigan said in a statement. "It's this type of reprehensible and illegal conduct that feeds the dangerous opioid epidemic and is another low for the pharmaceutical industry."
