After defeating several extremist terrorist groups in Daraa and Quneitra provinces, the Syrian Army is ready to defeat ISIS terrorists in Sweida province in southern Syria.

Kurdish YPG forces are ready to help government forces in their campaign against ISIS in Sweida, the Firat news agency reported on Sunday. In an interview, Commander-in-chief Sipan Hemo said that the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) "has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to fight and defeat ISIS terrorists in many parts of Syria."

Syrian Army troops and local allied militiamen were angered by a series of ISIS terrorist attacks that targeted the Druze community of Sweida last month, killing about 200 civilians. Dozens of young people have also been abducted by terrorists and have not been released.

Comment: According to the Arabic-language al-Akhbar newspaper, apparently Washington is not happy with the recent talks between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Damascus.
It added that Washington's dissatisfaction was revealed after an unexpected visit by former US Ambassador to Bahrain William Robak to the town of al-Tabaqah in Aleppo province and his meeting with a number of Kurdish officials who had participated in talks with Damascus.

The psychopaths celebrate: Israel 'welcomes' assassination of Syrian scientist - but deny any 'involvement'

Pair of scum: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (R) and Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman (L).
Israel's minister of intelligence says he "welcomes" news that a Syrian scientist was killed by a car bomb, even as Tel Aviv denies any part in the murder. The New York Times reported that Israel's Mossad was behind the attack.

Intelligence and Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz weighed in on allegations that Israeli Mossad agents killed Dr. Aziz Asbar near the northwestern Syrian city of Masyaf, commenting that "assuming that [Asbar] was indeed involved in terrorist activity, I welcome his departure from the world."

Asbar, the research director at Syria's Scientific Studies and Research Center, was believed to be developing a secret weapons manufacturing facility with the help of Iran, which was to be used to manufacture precision-guided missiles in Syria. He was killed on Saturday by an explosive device planted on his car.

Comment: Does anyone actually believe Israel's claim that it was not behind Asbar's summary execution? Assassination is a Mossad speciality.

There are plans in motion to ban smoking on multiple Rotterdam streets in the area around Erasmus MC, the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and the Erasmiaans Gymnasium, AD reports. According to non-smokers association Clean Air Nederland, if these plans succeed, Rotterdam will be the first municipality to implement a smoking ban for entire streets.

The smoking ban is the initiative of the hospital and two educational institutions. "We have trouble with dumped cigarette butts and are thinking about the health of the 30 thousand students, pupils, patients and employees who are here on a daily basis", a spokesperson for the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences said to the newspaper. To prevent their smokers from just moving to the neighboring premises or the intervening streets, they want to ban smoking on Zimmermanweg, Wytemagweg and the corner of Museumpark.

Big Brother: Governor Cuomo unveils facial scanning at New York toll plazas

RFK toll plaza
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo revealed on Friday that facial recognition cameras installed at bridge and tunnel toll plazas across New York City are scanning every driver's face and feeding them into a massive database designed to catch suspected criminals.

"When it reads that license plate, it reads it for scofflaws . . . [but] the toll is almost the least significant contribution that this electronic equipment can actually perform," Cuomo said at a press conference outside the Queens Midtown Tunnel.

"We are now moving to facial-recognition technology, which takes it to a whole new level, where it can see the face of the person in the car and run that technology against databases... Because many times a person will turn their head when they see a security camera, so they are now experimenting with technology that just identifies a person by their ear, believe it or not," he continued.

Entitlement AND guilt-tripping: 'Jesus said give to men in need': Refugee says Austrians should share money & homes with migrants

An Austrian army soldier observes migrants as they wait to cross the border from Slovenia
A Syrian refugee living in Germany and writing columns for the local Huffington Post edition says all Austrians should take migrants into their homes, if they want integration to work.

Aras Bacho, who says he is 19 and has lived in Germany for the past eight years, has penned an open letter in the Austrian daily newspaper OE24. According to Bacho, "integration only works on two sides - one side is not enough."

"Those who ask for integration should begin to wonder why integration takes longer or why it does not work in part for many refugees and migrants," Bacho writes. Therefore, he says, Austrians and migrants should not only go out together and communicate by learning each other's languages, he also wants to see every Austrian take in a migrant at home, and donate money to those migrants.

58% of Russians blame Georgia, US, NATO for 2008 war with Georgia in South Ossetia

Tskhinvali residents light candles in memory of 2008 war victims
The largest share of Russians think the 2008 military conflict between their country and Georgia was initiated by the West and Georgia's pro-Western leadership while Russian authorities did all they could to prevent bloodshed.

In a poll conducted by the Russian independent think-tank Levada on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the war in South Ossetia, researchers asked members of the Russian public who, in their opinion, bore principal responsibility for the military conflict. Some 34 percent said that it was the president and government of Georgia, 24 percent pinned the blame on the United States and NATO and 20 percent said that the responsibility should be shared by all parties.

Only five percent of respondents agreed that the initiation of the military conflict was Russia's fault and three percent said the blame lay with the leaders of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Some 59 percent of those polled told researchers that they believe Russian leaders did everything they could to prevent the armed conflict. However, 22 percent feel that Russia reacted to a provocation on Georgia's part and "allowed itself to be dragged into the conflict."

Comment: Then they agree with the independent report commissioned by the EU:
"In the Mission's view, it was Georgia which triggered off the war when it attacked Tskhinvali (in South Ossetia) with heavy artillery on the night of 7 to 8 August 2008," said Swiss diplomat Heidi Tagliavini, who led the investigation.
But that doesn't stop the Western media and governments from continuing to blame Russia for "attacking" and "invading" Georgia...

'We must speak up': Surgeon aboard Gaza flotilla tells harrowing story of Israeli theft, assault & detention

The al-Awda departs from Bergen, Norway on April 20, 2018.
The last leg of the journey of al-Awda (the boat of return) was scheduled to reach Gaza on 29 July 2018. We were on target to reach Gaza that evening. There are 22 on board including crew with $15,000 of antibiotics and bandages for Gaza. At 12.31 p.m. we received a missed call from a number beginning with +81... Mikkel was steering the boat at that time. The phone rang again with the message that we were trespassing into Israeli waters. Mikkel replied that we were in International waters and had right of innocent passage according to maritime laws. The accusation of trespassing was repeated again and again with Mikkel repeating the message that we were sailing in international waters. This carried on for about half an hour, while al-Awda was 42 nautical miles from the coast of Gaza.

Prior to the beginning of this last leg, we had spent two days learning non-violent actions and had prepared ourselves in anticipation of Israeli invasion of our boat. Vulnerable individuals especially those with medical conditions were to sit at the rear of the top deck with their hands on the deck table. The leader of this group was Gerd, a 75-year-old elite Norwegian athlete and she had the help of Lucia, a Spanish nurse in her group.

'This isn't censorship': Sky News and social media giants block showing of interview with Australian anti-immigration activist

Sky News Australia Political Editor David Speers says the outlet's ban on an anti-immigration commentator is not censorship but about taking a platform away from "a self-confessed neo-Nazi."

Blair Cottrell appeared on a segment of The Adam Giles Show on Sunday evening.

Chairperson of the United Patriots Front, a nationalist street movement, Cottrell is a controversial figure in Australia. His interview for Sky New Australia's current affairs program was broadcast live on Sunday but the station has now washed its hands of it.

In a statement, the channel's CEO Angelos Frangopoulos said the interview was "an error of judgement." He said The Adam Giles Show has now been suspended pending a structural change.

Parkland school under fire for not acting in accordance with disability laws in dealing with school shooter Nikolas Cruz

A new report found Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz asked school officials for help months before he allegedly gunned down 14 fellow classmates and three adults-but the school district "did not follow through."

That failure by school officials was singled out in a court-ordered report released Friday into the school district's handling of Cruz's behavioral issues. While more than half of the report was redacted, the blacked-out sections of the document could still easily be read by copying and pasting into a separate document, a trick used by The Sun-Sentinel to release the unredacted report on Friday.

Among the conclusions in the report, authored by the Collaborative Educational Network of Tallahassee, are two glaring instances in which Broward school officials failed to act in accordance with laws governing the treatment of students with disabilities.

Comment: It's actually not clear from the reporting that Cruz actually asked for help. The problem here wasn't any developmental disability but a severe disturbance in character. It's possible a transfer could have changed some things, but it's very likely that Cruz was a ticking time bomb no matter what.
