Deaths in Russia from drug-related causes jumped 60 percent in 2020 compared to a year earlier, mirroring trends elsewhere in the world during the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year, 7,316 people died from drug overdoses, up from 4,569 deaths a year earlier, according to data from Russia's statistics agency Rosstat analyzed by RBC news.

From 2016 to 2018, between 4,400 and 4,800 people died from drugs in Russia per year.

In 2020, 50,400 people also died from alcohol-related causes in Russia, or about 6.3 percent more than in 2019.

In June, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime noted the pandemic has led to an increase in drug use worldwide due in part to economic hardships and mental health issues.

Comment: As drug-induced deaths have increased on a global scale, most tragic are the rising numbers of children seeking suicide - an impact on humanity approaching the incalculable. Was escalating suicide a factor considered in the 'global plan'? A good guess would be 'yes'.

A Cuban artist blasted Black Lives Matter for its statement about Cuban protests, which many saw as apologetic toward the Cuban government.

José Luis Aparicio Ferrera — a producer and director who, according to his Facebook page, is based in Havana — posted: "For #blacklivesmatters all black lives matter, except Cuban black lives."

Alongside several other artists, Aparicio Ferrera publicly refused to create work for the regime:
I will not enter my films in any festival or government sponsored event or write copy for any of their publications. I do not plan to participate in any official activities from now on. It's not much, but it is what I decided.
As The Daily Wire previously reported, Black Lives Matter condemned the United States government for trying to "crush" the Cuban Revolution through its embargo, alleging that the policy inhibits Cubans' ability to choose their own government:

Authorities arrested a Florida man for allegedly stealing an alligator from a mini-golf course and repeatedly attempting to throw it up on the rooftop of a building, police said.

William "Bubba" Hodge allegedly stole the alligator from a Congo River Golf enclosure in Daytona Beach early Friday, then repeatedly attempted to throw the animal onto the Metz Lounge roof in order to "teach it a lesson," authorities said, according to WKMG. While holding it by the tail, the 32-year-old suspect allegedly slammed the reptile against the ground and an awning then dropped the gator and stomped on it twice.

Hodge admitted to jumping over the enclosure's fence where he wrestled the gator before managing to steal it, the outlet reported.

Comment: This level of animal cruelty is sick. Here's hoping they throw the book at him!

Over half a million Chinese sign WHO letter demanding probe into Fort Detrick lab, reports suggest

Over half a million Chinese citizens have signed a joint letter to the World Health Organization (WHO) calling for a probe into US Fort Detrick Lab to "prevent" future epidemics, the Global Times reported.

The US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Maryland, was briefly shut down in 2019 after an inspection by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The lab said that the reason for its shutdown was "ongoing infrastructure issues with wastewater decontamination." The Chinese newspaper doubted the explanation, and said that a June study by the National Institutes of Health's All of Us Research Program suggested that COVID-19 may have been in the US as early as December 2019.

"There has been a leakage incident in the lab in the autumn of 2019 right before the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, however, detailed information had been withheld by the US under excuses of national security," the letter drafted by Chinese residents claimed, as quoted by the media outlet.

French protests call for 'freedom' amid government vaccine push

Florian Philippot, President of French political party Les Patriotes, and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, head of French political party Debout La France (DLF) attend a protest against the new measures announced by French President Emmanuel Macron to fight the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, in Paris, France, July 17, 2021.
More than a hundred thousand people marched across France on Saturday to protest against President Emmanuel Macron's plans to force vaccination of health workers and require a COVID-19 free certificate to enter places such as restaurants and cinemas.

Macron this week announced sweeping measures to fight a rapid surge in coronavirus infections, which protesters say infringe the freedom of choice of those who do not want the vaccination.

The interior ministry said 137 marches took place across the country, gathering nearly 114,000 people, of which 18,000 were in Paris.

The measures had already prompted smaller demonstrations earlier this week, forcing police to use tear gas to disperse protesters.

"Everyone is sovereign in his own body. In no way does a president of the Republic have the right to decide on my individual health," said one protester in Paris who identified herself as Chrystelle.

Comment: Going full dictator isn't good for the polls either - RT reports:
French President Emmanuel Macron has lost some popularity among young people after his government announced new rules about health passes and mandatory vaccination for health workers.

Macron's approval went down by 13 points among people aged 18-24, a poll by IFOP public opinion agency for Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD) newspaper showed. The president's disapproval rating in this group stands at 51%.

[...]

"He is gaining in groups of [the] population, whose vaccination [level] is above average," IFOP general director, Frederic Dabi, told JDD. The paper noted that only 29% of people aged 18-24 are fully vaccinated, as opposed to 79% of those aged over 65.

Dabi said the survey uncovered "polarization, even an extremization of discontent" over the country's vaccination program. Respondents equated the idea of a health pass, pushed by Macron, with "mandatory vaccination in disguise" and "the loss of freedom," he said.

The demonization of the unvaxxed

The Plague

"Children are the vessels into which adults pour their poison."

Salman Rushdie, Midnight's Children
In The Silver Chair, book 6 of CS Lewis's magnificent The Chronicles of Narnia, the first pages describe a "mixed" school, meaning for boys and girls, that was...
not nearly so mixed as the minds of the people who ran it. These people had the idea that boys and girls should be allowed to do what they liked. And unfortunately what ten or fifteen of the biggest boys and girls liked best was bullying the others. All sort of things, horrid things, went on...[and] the people who did them were not expelled or punished. The Head said they were interesting psychological cases and sent for them and talked to them for hours. And if you knew the right sort of things to say to the Head, the main result was that you became rather a favorite than otherwise."
The school is called Experiment House and it's a drab, dull place where, even though it gives the appearance of "everyone doing what they liked," it's really a place where everyone must fit in and those who don't are singled out and persecuted.

The two heroes of the story, Scrubb and Jill, don't fit in at all, and are being chased by a group of bullies when they come up against the wall at the back of the garden. They are trapped, with nowhere else to turn. In the wall is a door that is always locked. But on this occasion, it opens.

A 6-year-old girl was killed and five adults injured in a shooting late Friday night in Washington, D.C., with possible suspects still at large, according to police.

D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Executive Assistant Chief Ashan Benedict said in a video posted on Twitter that the shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the southeastern part of the nation's capital.

Benedict said police heard the sound of gunfire and arrived at the scene as a crowd of people also hurried to the area.

The assistant chief said that when they arrived at the site of the shooting, they found a total of six victims.

The 6-year-old was rushed to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead, Benedict said.

Three adult men and two women were also injured in the attack, though the police official said the injuries were believed to be non-life threatening.

Judge denies request by pro-Trump lawyers to release video of Detroit sanctions hearing

A federal judge denied the request of a group of seven lawyers, including Sidney Powell and Lin Wood, who petitioned through their legal counsel on Wednesday to release the footage of a Detroit sanctions hearing on Monday over concerns about misinformation.

Linda Parker, a judge for U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, rejected the motion in a brief opinion that said 13,000 people viewed the proceedings and the courtroom was viewed by far more people than if it was conducted in person. Donald Campbell, the lawyer representing the seven pro-Trump attorneys, insisted the public release of video of the hearing that focused on whether they would face penalties for their 2020 election litigation seeking to overturn the results would help his clients "refute what they believe to be public mischaracterizations" of the proceedings, according to The Detroit News.

The six-hour hearing was initially available for viewers to livestream but removed per court rules.
