New York's election year anti-crime strategy too-little, too-late, critics say

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul
Facing a critical election year and constant evidence of the progressive rollback of tough-on-crime policies, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and other Democrat leaders are scrambling to counter the narrative that theirs is the party of lawlessness and disorder, some experts say.

In doing so, whether they wanted to or not, these politicians and officials have taken steps toward a more traditional approach to law enforcement.

Ms. Hochul's abrupt deployment of 700 National Guard troops — along with additional New York State Police and Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) officers in the subways of the nation's largest city — is one such example, in the view of Heather Mac Donald, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute think tank.
"Gov. Hochul is belatedly reacting to the crime and disorder that have plagued New York City since the George Floyd race riots," Ms. Mac Donald told The Epoch Times.

"Why is she reacting now? Because the November elections loom and Democrats, from the president on down, are vulnerable to the charge that they have enabled a breakdown of law and order."

Why are three biologically male trans murderers being held with female prisoners in women-only jails?

Paris Green
Paris Green (pictured), formerly Peter Laing, was jailed for a minimum of 18 years in 2013 for the murder of Robert Shankland, 45, in Glenrothes, Fife
Three murderers who were born male continue to live among vulnerable women inmates despite the Scottish Prison Service's new transgender guidance.

The 'female-identifying' killers have not been moved from women-only custody units because, feminist campaigners say, 'they murdered men' rather than women.

Scottish Prison Service (SPS) guidance, published after the case of trans rapist Isla Bryson, states that a transgender person can't be considered for admission or transfer to a women's prison if they have a history of violence against women and girls.

Feminist campaigners fear that trans people whose victims were male fall outside the scope of this policy and that Paris Green, Melissa Young and Alex Stewart - all violent transgender inmates - are still enjoying the benefits of softer touch female prisons. All of their victims were men.

Comment: Clearly there are an ever greater number predatory and psychopathic men who are taking advantage of the trans craze for camouflage, and perpetrate more heinous acts. When will the activists get a clue!?

Mass layoffs begin at California fast food chains as $20 minimum wage law takes effect

This result shouldn't surprise anyone. Inflation has driven up operational costs for businesses across the US and shrunk profit margins for major food chains in the past few years. This has led to higher menu prices (like the "$18 Big Mac") and slowing sales for every major fast food company. Another anchor dragging on the restaurant business in many regions was at least two years of covid stimulus coupled with rent moratoriums, creating aggressive labor shortages and raising wages in upwards of $16 per hour for brand new no-skill employees.

Small chains and mom-and-pop businesses simply can't compete. Larger chains raised prices but have also been forced to reduce employees and labor costs through automation, but the layoffs are just getting started.

Enter California's "FAST Recovery Act" passed into law in 2022 and going into effect in April of this year - The legislation requires a particular set of food chains dealing in certain kinds of products outlined in the law to raise their minimum wages (already at $16 an hour on average) to $20 an hour. The income increase is limited to chains that have 60 or more locations in the state of California (meaning, the combined number of locations regardless of who owns them must be higher than 60) Keep in mind that while many of these chains are associated with international corporations, they are owned and run by franchisees; they are still family run businesses.

Best of the Web: JK Rowling: Free speech is 'at an end in Scotland' under new hate crime bill, dares police to arrest her

The author says Scottish lawmakers place 'higher value on the feelings of men performing their idea of femaleness' than 'the rights and freedoms of actual women'

After Scotland's Hate Crime Act took effect Monday, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, dared Scottish police to arrest her for calling "a man a man."

According to the Scottish Parliament's website, the "Hate Crime and Public Order Bill" adds "a new crime of stirring up hatred against any of the protected groups covered by the Bill," one of which is "transgender identity."

Rowling began a long social media post by listing several biological male criminals who claimed to be transgender just prior to being sentenced for various crimes. Some of the crimes included sexually assaulting a 10-year-old, possession of 16,000 illicit images of children and rape.

Multipolarity: An era of great transition and creating a new future

russian map
© Hereford Mappa Mundi, ca. 1300.
We are living in an era of great transition. The era of the unipolar world is ending, and the era of multipolarity is coming. Changes in the global architecture of the world order are fundamental. Sometimes the processes unfold so rapidly that public thought lags behind. It is all the more important to focus on comprehending the grandiose events that are shaking humanity.

No one — except fanatics — is able to deny the fact that the West, after the collapse of the socialist system and the USSR, received a unique chance for sole global leadership, and failed in this mission. Instead of a reasonable, fair and balanced global policy, the West has turned into hegemony, neocolonialism; acting in its predatory selfish interests, using double standards, inciting bloody wars and conflicts, pitting peoples and religions against each other. This is not leadership — it is aggressive imperialism, continuing the worst traditions of the selfsame West — the principle of divide and rule, colonization; in fact, transformation into slavery.

The collapse of the leadership of the collective West is accompanied and reinforced by the precipitous moral decline of Western culture. The values forcibly and stubbornly promoted by the West — LGBT, uncontrolled migration, legalization of all kinds of perversions, culture of abolition, brutal purges and repression of all dissenters, loss of humanistic principles and readiness to move towards Artificial Intelligence domination and transhumanism — have further lowered the prestige of the West in the eyes of global humanity. The West is no longer the universal model, the supreme authority, let alone a role model.

Chaos in the Knesset as protesters storm parliament over Israel's failure to bring back hostages

Comment: Not to end the slaughter of Palestinians, to bring back Jewish hostages. Even when their country's very existence is in the balance, their sole focus is on themselves...

Major chaos ensued in the gallery above Israel's Knesset after activists and the relatives of the hostages in Gaza threw yellow paint at the glass window of the Israeli parliament.

During the demonstration which took place on Wednesday, some of the protesters covered their hands in yellow paint as well.

The protesters conducted the protest to express their frustration towards Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's administration, accusing the Israeli government of failing to ensure the speedy release of the hostages.

Comment: Note, Israelis are protesting against Netanyahu's rule, and his continued refusal to make some kind of deal for the hostages. The protests to end Israel's genocide in Gaza are much, much smaller, because the majority of Israelis, rather tellingly, support the slaughter; some even think Israel is not being diabolical enough.

Now Canada is euthanising autistic people

A father has discovered he is powerless to stop his perfectly healthy daughter being killed.

Imagine one day you discover that your adult daughter, who still lives with you, wants to be euthanised. As far as you are aware, she is healthy. She suffers from autism and ADHD, but no physical illnesses or disabilities that you know of. You know that she has faced many difficulties in her life, but you love her and desperately want to prevent her death. You are left fighting against her doctors, who encourage her decision and are perfectly happy to help her go through with this. To make this nightmare even worse, no one will even tell you why your daughter has been approved to die.

This is the awful reality facing one father in Alberta, Canada. A judge issued a ruling this week that clears the way for a 27-year-old woman, known to the court only as MV, to be accepted into Canada's medical assistance in dying (MAID) programme. Despite the attempts by her father - known as WV - to prevent this, there was really very little that could have been done. Under Canadian law, the court had no choice but to allow his daughter to be killed. According to the twisted logic of assisted-dying campaigners, this is the 'compassionate' option.

Comment: The more the MAID program is looked into, the more sick and twisted it appears to be. The fact that an individual, (from the sounds of it, a mentally unfit one) can shop around until she finds a doctor who agrees to have her put to death, after having previous doctors reject her application, is surreal and bizarre. There is clearly little-to-no value for human life.

Batman to the rescue — Masked men install protected bat boxes over ULEZ traffic cameras

Strange sightings of Batman and Robin have been occurring in London

Thousands of ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) cameras have been installed to record numberplates of offending older cars so their owners can be charged £12.50 for daring to drive a non-compliant car in London. This usually means any diesel car made before 2014 or a petrol car made before 2006, so the fines especially hurt low paid workers, students and retirees.

The two masked crusaders have been seen helping the local bat population by installing homes for them in front of ULEZ cameras. Since bats are a protected species (unlike motorists) once the bat boxes are installed they can not be tampered with nor disturbed by law. Batman and Robin helpfully also place legal notices on the poles so workers coming to fix the cameras know they risk a six month jail sentence or an "unlimited" fine if they so much as touch the bat box.

The bat boxes cost £10.

It's been a little over a week since "Climate: The Movie," a documentary produced by Thomas Nelson and directed by Martin Durkin, was released on Vimeo, YouTube, Rumble, and other platforms. And already, it's garnered millions of views and thousands of reviews.

"Watch this documentary to understand the lies, the pseudoscience, but also the self-interest of government-funded parasites pushing climate alarmism," Maxime Bernier, the founder and leader of the People's Party of Canada, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, about the film that details how "an eccentric environmental scare grew into a powerful global industry."

"The final nail in the coffin for the 'human-induced climate change' scam. An absolute MUST-WATCH!" Wide Awake Media posted on X while linking to the movie, which features an elite list of scientists, including Nobel Laureate John Clauser, Richard Lindzen, emeritus professor of meteorology at MIT, and Steven Koonin, a theoretical physicist and professor at NYU's Tandon School of Engineering.

Just 8% of Ukrainians ready to take up arms against Russia - pollster

Most Ukrainians expect their country to win in the armed conflict with Russia, but just 8% are willing to fight to further their cause, the head of a leading Kiev-based polling agency has claimed, in an interview published on Tuesday.

The Ukrainian leadership has said that it is seeking to boost the military's ranks by up to 500,000. Additional troops are required to relieve forces on the frontline, some of which have not been properly rotated in years, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry has claimed.

Vladimir Paniotto of the International Institute of Sociology discussed how the Ukrainian people's worldview is reflected in research conducted by his organization with local news outlet Ukrainskaya Pravda.

They tend to "wish for conflicting things," he mused, such as capitalist liberalization alongside robust social support by the state, or democracy as well as the "strong arm" of the government. The conundrum is present in what Ukrainians are willing to do to defeat Russia - an outcome that they overwhelmingly believe will end the ongoing hostilities.

"Certainly, many people are willing to act, to send donations or work as volunteers," Paniotto said. "But facing a direct risk to life and taking part in military action - that is much harder... We estimate that the share of those willing to take arms is roughly 8% across all categories."

Comment: Judging from the reports of the hard time the Ukrainian military is having filling its personnel quotas, 8% probably is an overestimate. Even if it isn't, it's one thing to say you're willing to take up arms but it's another thing entirely to actually take up arms and fight.
