First burqa ban, now burkini ban: Why Europe prohibits full-body swimsuits for Muslim women

French seaside resorts are one by one joining a widening taboo on a burkini, swimwear for Muslim women that covers the whole body except the face, feet and hands. Authorities name a number of reasons why clothes, which were designed to help followers of Islam to integrate into Western society, became an "unwelcome" thing that causes danger.

The word "burkini" has appeared in the past decade in Germany. By that time German Muslim women in large numbers began to refuse attending swimming lessons: mothers did not want their daughters to be stared at by strangers. A solution to the problem came from a Lebanese-born citizen of Australia — Aheda Zanetti. She has created an original version of swimsuit, similar to pajamas with a tight hood attached to the collar. This swimwear was called the "burkini," from the words "burqa" and "bikini."

However, designed for Muslim women to dress modestly according to Sharia (Islamic law), the burkini has now became an unacceptable garment, especially in France.

Comment: Islamophobia in Europe has reached new highs with no one listening to each other. Knee-jerk declarations are made for everyone to conform to according to the dictates of the elites, religion be damned. Society is failing.

And now French Prime Minister Manuel Valls adds his two cents:
French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has supported mayors who have banned burqinis, saying the swimwear is "not compatible with the values" of the country. His statement comes as more French towns announced plans to ban the female Muslim swimwear.

"The burqini is not a new range of swimwear, a fashion. It is the expression of a political project, a counter-society, based notably on the enslavement of women," Valls said, as cited by La Provence newspaper.

According to the French PM, the idea that women are not pure by nature and that they should be completely covered is archaic.

Wearing of the burqini as "not compatible with the values of France and the Republic," Valls added.

Baltimore police union VP Lieutenant Gearhart suspended after 'Thugs of Baltimore' email

A high-ranking Baltimore police lieutenant, also the vice president of the police union, was suspended after sending an email to union members calling Black Lives Matter protesters "Thugs of Baltimore." Police Commissioner Kevin Davis suspended Lieutenant Victor Gearhart Monday morning after the email was sent to the entire police department using his official department account, according to the Baltimore Sun.

In an email obtained by WJZ, Lieutenant Gearhart, a 33-year veteran on the Baltimore police force, wrote to the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).
"By now you have seen that the THUGS from Black Lives Matter and other similar groups have attempted to disrupt the State FOP Convention being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Well today as check-in day with activities spread over the next 3 days so expect more bad behavior from the Thugs of Baltimore. On the bright side maybe they will stop killing each other while they are protesting us."
The email came in the wake of 12 people being arrested during demonstrations at the opening of Maryland's Fraternal Order of Police conference on Sunday afternoon.

Members of the Baltimore Bloc locked themselves together using PVC pipes and chained themselves to a railing. With signs reading "Abolish FOP" they blocked the escalator leading to the conference at the Hyatt. The incident marks the latest in a series of protests in recent weeks against police unions.

Baltimore Bloc and other activist groups said they were demanding "an end to racist policing practices and stop the institution that arms, pays and protects killer cops in our city, state, and nation."


Comment: Obviously BPD has a long ways to go to be "the model for this nation."

Two men armed with axes and guns have launched an attack on a traffic police station in Moscow region, injuring at least two officers, security officials said. The attackers were killed in a standoff.

The incident took place east of the capital at a traffic police station on a busy highway.

Police officers had stopped a suspicious vehicle to check documents, before the men in the car launched the attack, Interfax reported.

"As a result two police officers have been injured, one of them is in a serious condition," Russia's Investigative Committee said in a statement.

"One of the attackers was killed by police during the assault, the other [was killed] while trying to resist detention."

Investigators are currently trying to establish the motives behind the attack, the committee added.

A special operation against North Caucasus terrorists has been launched by National Guard and security forces in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.

According to local media and social media reports by locals, at least two explosions and a short firefight have been heard in a residential building at the Lenin Prospectus cordoned off by National Guard and security forces. However, the building has not been evacuated, Fontanka media outlet reported.

An official from Federal Security Service coonfirmed that operation is aimed to detain suspected North Caucasus terrorists, the Russian state-run news agency "RIA" reported.

Georgia is in the area of interest of the brigade — it plays the role of a transit country for militants. Terrorist attacks on its territory are not ruled out. Two South Carolina teenagers were arrested after allegedly fatally shooting and robbing a man who police said stopped to help them get a vehicle out a ditch.

Chadwick Garrett stopped to help the teens pull a vehicle out of a ditch Monday night, but when the good Samaritan finished, the teens robbed and shot him to death, a North Charleston police spokesman said, according to the Post and Courier.

The teens were arrested and booked six miles away from the shooting scene on Tuesday. Deon Antonio Frasier, 17, and Michael Odell Anthony Dupree-Tyler, 19, face murder charges in connection with the shooting.

Europe is overrated - Iraqi migrants return home disappointed

Thousands of Iraqi migrants have become disillusioned by Europe and end up returning to their home country, according to a new report. Facing asylum delays and poor living conditions, they said their idealized expectations have been dwarfed by harsh realities.

Migrants who chose to go back to Iraq said the quality of life in Europe was overrated, according to the report titled "Migration Flows from Iraq to Europe: Reasons Behind Migration" published by the International Organization for Migration on Tuesday. Migrants cited an extremely long asylum application process, poor living conditions and general disappointment with the way of life in Europe as being among the main reasons for their return, IOM said.

"The study, based on interviews in Europe, and with Iraqis who returned home, said returnees reported that life in Europe had been idealized and that the reality was more difficult than expected," Farhan Haq, deputy UN spokesman, said as quoted by Xinhua news agency.

IOM had assisted with the repatriation of some 9,600 Iraqis last year and through June of this year, the agency reported. However, the actual number could be even higher as many migrants returned home without IOM help.

A man was arrested in Florida while biting the face of one of his alleged murder victims. Florida State University student Austin Harrouff has been arrested on suspicion of killing a married couple in a "random" and "unprovoked" attack.

Harrouff, 19, stands accused of stabbing to death John Joseph Stevens III, 59, and Michelle Karen Mishcon, 53, at their home near Tequesta, according to WPEC.

Jeff Fisher, a neighbor of the couple who attempted to stop the attack, was stabbed several times and is currently being treated at St. Mary's Medical Center. "The guy turned on him. Thank God Jeff had enough sense to get back in the house," Fisher's father said.

Authorities have arrested a man suspected of starting the Clayton Fire in central California. Fueled by severe drought conditions, the blaze has forced thousands of residents to evacuate and burned 4,000 acres so far. It is only 20 percent contained.

Clearlake resident Damin Pashilk, 40, was arrested Monday and charged with 17 counts of arson. His bail was set for $5.1 million. Pashilk sparked the fire near Clayton Creek Road, just east of Highway 29, on Saturday, investigators from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) said.

Since then, the blaze has burned down 4,000 acres and forced the evacuation of thousands of local residents - many of whom had lost everything in wildfires that ravaged the area last year. The town of Lower Lake has been hit particularly hard, with the fire destroying the Main Street and wiping out much of the commercial district, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Pictures of sinister scarecrows reportedly planted to keep refugees away from the Hungarian border have appeared on social media. The country is to hold a referendum to decide if it will further accept the EU's mandatory migrant quota system.

The photos were released on Facebook by a group that pledges support to Hungary's police and troops, including those patrolling the border.

According to the group, the figures were carved from sugar beets. And the scarecrows which look like villains from some horror movie seem to be working - asylum seekers are reportedly avoiding such areas.

Four suspected Daesh members were arrested in Morocco for plotting terrorist attacks in the kingdom's largest city of Casablanca, the Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

"They plotted dangerous terrorist attacks against the stability and security of the Kingdom," the ministry said in a statement, cited by the Le Matin newspaper.

The suspects, who are said to have pledged allegiance to Daesh, planned attacks on Casablanca's "vital sites," the ministry specified.
