At least nine people have been arrested as pro- and- counter-protests rocked the campus of the liberal University of California at Berkeley as it hosted conservative speaker, former Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro, police said.

Ben Shapiro, the founder and the editor-in-chief of the conservative website the Daily Wire, was delivering his speech inside Zellerbach Hall at the campus on Thursday night, the university said in a statement. Some 600-700 people attended the event.

In the meantime, about 1,000 people opposed to Shapiro speaking gathered outside the campus, holdings signs saying "Students Against Fascism and War". Some were chanting "No Trump, no KKK [Ku Klux Klan], no fascist USA," according to AP.

No charges for cops who tasered teen to death

Graham Dyer
As the Free Thought Project reported earlier this year, police were caught on video tasering a young man's testicles and his body - until he died. Then, in June we learned that although the Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson found that the officers involved had committed a crime during their torture - they cannot be charged. Now, to add insult to unaccountable injury and death, according to court documents released this week, the cops are defending their tactics, calling their torturous acts that fateful night, standard procedure.

Last week, Mesquite police officers Jack Fyall, Richard Houston, Alan Gafford, Zachary Scott, William Heidelburg and Bill Hedgpeth, the ones responsible for the death of Graham Dyer, asked the judge to dismiss the lawsuit brought against them by his Dyer's parents.

"If I could go back in time and have this case, it would be indicted," said Michael Snipes, the first assistant district attorney. "We would have pursued criminally negligent homicide charges."

These charges cannot be brought now, however, because - in spite of the family only recently finding out about their son's horrifying death - cops kept the footage of it secret long enough for the statute of limitations to expire.

Former CIA Director Michael Morell has resigned from Harvard University in protest after it announced Chelsea Manning had been selected as a visiting fellow to the school.

"I can't be part of an organization that honors a convicted felon and leaker of classified information," Michael Morrell, a senior fellow, wrote in his resignation letter to the Dean of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government on Thursday.

"Senior leaders in our military have stated publicly that the leaks by Ms. Manning put the lives of US soldiers at risk,"Morell added. "I have an obligation in my conscience - and I believe to the country - to stand against any efforts to justify leaks of sensitive national security information."

During his final week in office, Obama also commuted the sentences of more than 1,700 prisoners in two batches of clemency grants; 504 of his pardons were for inmates serving life sentences including armed robbers and drug dealers who had convictions for the distribution of cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and heroin.

Perhaps a pardon from Trump this early in his term might seem unusual. But at least this Republican's pardon wasn't on behalf of someone who sought to drug, harass, rob, and terrorize the public.

Elite Epidemic: At Least 10 US Mayors Accused of Child Sex Crimes Since 2016

High-level politicians from coast to coast have a sick problem. Since 2016, the mayors of ten cities have been charged or convicted of child sex crimes.

As TFTP reported yesterday, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray has resigned after a fifth victim has come forward and alleged the mayor raped him as a child-it was his cousin. While this is certainly a massive revelation, it is important to note that Ed Murray is only one name on a long list of mayors accused of child sex-related crimes since 2016.

According to a scathing report from the Daily Caller, at least 10 current and former mayors have been accused of unspeakable crimes against children. Ranging from child porn to rape, some of the victims were as young as four-years-old.

The mayor of Stillwater, New York, Rick Nelson resigned earlier this month after he was caught and arrested with child porn. According to the Times Union, Nelson's arrest marked at least the fifth time in the last 42 years that the former school bus driver has been accused of victimizing children or teenagers.

Queensland's largest university will become a smoke-free zone within 10 months.

The University of Queensland announced today it intended to be a smoke-free campus from July 1.

The university adopted the policy after consulting with the State Government and health experts, a spokeswoman said.

"The decision aligns with UQ's responsibility and desire to provide healthy and vibrant campuses, and reflects evolving societal norms," she said.

The university would offer support to students and staff who currently smoke.

A sickening surprise has some Arapahoe County residents concerned.

Close to a dozen homeowners in the Greenfield subdivision have found decapitated rabbits on their doorsteps in recent days.

"It's definitely a bit creepy. It's right in front of the door," said Andrew Scharlott, one of the homeowners who made the find.

Residents aren't sure who or what is leaving the mutilated animal carcasses. They hope it's an animal.

"I hope it's an animal because I don't want to think someone would be doing this as a prank. If it is someone trying to send a message or something, I hope that person gets help," resident Mike McCuen said.

At least 15 soldiers are injured following an explosion in a training exercise at the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Fort Bragg, North Carolina on Thursday morning.

The soldiers were airlifted to nearby Womack Army Medical Center. The cause of the explosion is unclear. The U.S. Army Special Operations Command is investigating the cause of the incident.

"We're looking into an incident that occurred today on Fort Bragg," said Lt. Col. Robert Bockholt, a spokesman for USASOC, as cited by the Army Times.

"It did incur injuries, but the extent of the injuries are yet to be determined," Bockholt said.

Fort Bragg is the largest military installation in the world, by population, housing more than 50,000 active personnel.

More mystery surrounds bizarre 'health attacks' on US diplomats in Cuba

The mysterious stories of US diplomats in Cuba falling victim to bizarre "health attacks" including hearing loss and brain injuries have become even more bizarre, with AP discovering that some symptoms were limited to specific rooms or parts of rooms.

Details surrounding what the White House has only described as "incidents" are sparse, and the causes are even less existent. All that is really known is that US diplomatic employees experienced a "variety of physical symptoms" while serving in Cuba.

Those symptoms include hearing loss and speech problems, with some victims having trouble concentrating or recalling certain words, according to officials cited by AP. Some have experienced brain swelling, dizziness, nausea, severe headaches, balance problems and prolonged ringing in the ears.

The officials said the incidents occurred in the homes of the US officials, and in at least one hotel: the recently renovated Hotel Capri.

A new layer of the cases was revealed by AP on Thursday, but appears to only add to the confusion.

According to the news agency, some of the symptoms were limited to certain rooms, or parts of rooms.

US Air Force to spray Harvey-stricken Texas with neurotoxin pesticide

The US Air Force is spraying 6 million acres in Texas with potentially harmful insecticides, as the state tries to rid itself of swarms of mosquitoes nesting in flooded areas after Hurricane Harvey.

The work began this past weekend with the military using low-flying C-130 cargo planes to douse three counties with Naled, an organophosphate (OP) insecticide, according to Reuters.

"Due to the large amount of standing, polluted water, populations of pest insects that can transmit diseases are increasing significantly," Captain Jeff Kelly, Air Force spokesman said in a statement. "This poses a health risk to rescue workers and residents of Houston."

Comment: They're spraying toxic chemicals, plain and simple--the only debate is: how toxic are they? One way or another, it sounds like it's best to avoid these sprays if at all possible.

Baltimore will not remove statue of Star-Spangled Banner composer defaced with 'Racist Anthem'

A monument to the composer of the US national anthem, whose original third verse has been called racist by left-wing activists, has been defaced in Baltimore. City officials say they will not remove the statue, unlike other memorials around the country.

On Wednesday before dawn, a monument depicting Francis Scott Key, the composer of 'The Star-Spangled Banner', was vandalized with the words "Racist Anthem" spray-painted on it. Red paint also appeared to have been splashed on the monument.

The third verse penned by Key is what presumably attracted the vandals' attention. It has been the focus of Salon columnist Jefferson Morley's attack on the US national anthem, which went as far as calling it a 'neo-Confederate' symbol.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh says she does not have plans to remove the statue of Key, after a slew of Confederate-era statues were removed earlier this year due to public outcry.
