A veteran Austrian journalist has urged for action against media crackdown in Ukraine, saying he fears for his life after being labeled "a Kremlin agent" by a vigilante website, according to Kronen Zeitung.

Christian Wehrschuetz, a correspondent with Austria's leading ORF broadcaster, said it is increasingly hard for him and his employees to feel safe in modern-day Ukraine, Kronen Zeitung reported, citing excerpts from Wehrschuetz's letter to the channel's management and the Austrian government.

Wehrschuetz, who started his journalistic career in the mid-1980s, reportedly said there are "militant ultranationalist groups threatening journalists who critically report on the policies of Ukraine's leadership and try to stay objective."

Georgia family sues after cops storm mentally ill man's home shooting him 76 times

Jamarion Robinson shooting
The family of a 26-year-old Atlanta man who was killed after police shot him 76 times has filed a civil rights lawsuit against the officers involved.

In August of 2016, police broke down the door of Jamarion Robinson's girlfriend's home in Parkside Camp Creek Luxury Apartments and began spraying the interior of the apartment with bullets. Robinson was killed by multiple police task force officers from several different departments, including the U.S. Marshal Service.

On that fateful day in August, police were serving a warrant for Robinson's arrest. Police claimed that during a previous confrontation, Robinson had fired a gun at officers. However, members of a local civil rights organization explained at a press conference on Wednesday that they didn't know why police were looking for Robinson.

"At the time of the shooting, Jamarion Robinson presented no threat to the defendant officers or anyone else," according to the lawsuit, filed in federal court.

The lawsuit claims that Robinson had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and that the responding officers were never trained in dealing with the mentally ill.

Comment: Georgia's police have made quite an unsavory reputation for themselves:

The ongoing decline of the American male

discouraged man depression men

"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful."
~ C.S. Lewis, The Abolition Of Man

In the movie Falling Down, Bill Foster (Michael Douglas) is a defense engineer who has lost his family, his home, and his job. We follow him on the day he finally snaps, his despair morphing into rage against his misfortunes. Among other incidents, he shoots up a Mexican-American gang, berates the employees of a fast-food restaurant for the hamburger they serve him, kills a vicious neo-Nazi, and blows up part of a construction site. At the end of the film, held at gunpoint by a detective, Foster says in surprise, "I'm the bad guy?"

A lot of men are saying the same thing these days.

Comment: 'No man left behind' is taking on an ironic meaning in today's world - it seems that all men are being left behind. With growing perspective of masculinity as being 'toxic', what do we expect is going to happen? If the future is female, to the exclusion of the male, what kind of dystopian world can we expect to live in?

Study finds older women more conservative than men while younger women are more left-wing

Young women across Western Europe and Canada are more left wing than their male counterparts, according to new research I carried out that also shows among older voters women more likely to be right wing than men.

We already know that younger people are often more likely to vote for left-wing parties than their older peers, but it seems this trend is particularly pronounced among women. Younger women are the most left wing in their voting habits and older women the most right wing when we compared voters by age and gender. This is shown in a study using data on over 40,000 people from the World Values Survey/European Values Study in Western Europe and Canada, 1989-2014.

This trend is summarised in the graph below. Negative numbers indicate more men voting for a left-wing party in a given country. Positive numbers indicate more women voting for a left-wing party. In almost all countries, women born after 1955 are more likely to vote for left-wing parties than men of the same age group. Conversely, in many countries, women born before 1955 are less likely to vote for left-wing parties than their male peers.

Second oldest women's college to accept transgender students

worried
America's second oldest women-only college will begin accepting admission applications from transgender and "non-binary" candidates.

Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. made the announcement in a recent email to students. The college had been discussing the policy change since 2014, according to KOMU-TV.

The new policy will take effect beginning in fall 2019 and arrives not long after the Trump administration's proposed changes to Title IX, which would not legally define "gender," thus limiting one's gender identity to that of the sex assigned to them at birth: male or female. It is unclear what impact the proposed Title IX change, if implemented, could have on the new Stephens College policy.

The U.S. Education Department and Stephens College did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication.

"Admission and continued enrollment in Stephens College's undergraduate residential program will be restricted exclusively to women, including students who are legally identified as female and who self-identify as women; students who document an ongoing transition to female and who self-identify as women; and students who are legally identified as female but do not fit within the gender binary," the Stephens College email read.

Transgender and non-binary students who apply "will be required to prove that they identify and live as women through legal documentation," according to an explainer released by the college.

UK landlords offering free rooms in return for sex amid record high homelessness

woman worried

UK landlords offering free rooms in return for sex as the housing crisis deepens.
Landlords in the UK are offering young women rooms free of rent in return for sex, a trend that has been growing amid record-high homelessness in Britain.

Renting rooms for sexual favors is seen as a growing risk by homeless charities and campaigners, and a consequence of a housing crisis where young people are unable to find somewhere affordable to live.

The Ministry of Justice says offering accommodation in exchange for sex is illegal and even placing an advert is breaking the law and could result in a seven year jail term.

The problem has become particularly marked in university towns, where young women are targeted by rogue landlords.

Two landlords in Bristol were filmed by hidden cameras in September offering free rent in return for sex, in a sting aimed at exposing the dangers faced by female tenants.

French president Emmanuel Macron just can't get away from Yellow Vest protesters. The anti-government demonstrators have even turned up outside his presidential hideaway on the Mediterranean coast.

The police had to repel around 40 Yellow Vests as they attempted to storm the medieval fort of Bregancon that has served as a summer retreat for French presidents since 1968, AFP is reporting.

The mayor of nearby Bormes-les-Mimosas, Francois Arizzi, told the French news agency that the protesters attempted the daring raid on Thursday and indicated that they will repeat it on Friday.

Settler attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank have increased by 60% since 2017

armed israeli settlers attack Palestinians
In its latest weekly report about Israeli settlements activities in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, the National Bureau for the Defense of Land stated as follows...

The course of hatred and attacks on the Palestinian people continue and take a more dangerous curve following the formation of more organized and coordinated extremist groups, in the West Bank, that launched calls under the title, "There's operations, no Arabs."

Moreover, they called for gathering at road 60, which extends from Hebron to Nablus, in order to prevent Palestinians from using it. In their calls, the settlers wrote to Netanyahu that, if he fails to protect them, they will act themselves. Bit-Eil settlement council head Bin Yashai told Israeli army leaders that he and other settlers would prevent the re-opening of the road.

According to Israeli information and reports, settler attacks on Palestinians classified as hate crimes have increased by 60%, from the previous year of 2017. Data indicate that, in 2017, there were 79 cases of aggression, but 2018 recorded 127 cases, which means approximately one assault every three days, to include the puncturing of car tires, the uprooting of trees, racist slogans painted on walls, physical assault, killing and assaulting animals. The highest number of attacks was recorded in the villages of Nablus, Ramallah and Hebron governorates.
