University of Michigan under fire for requiring students to cross-examine each other in campus rape cases

University of Michigan
When an appeals court told the University of Michigan last year that it must allow cross-examination in sexual-misconduct proceedings, the judges gave the taxpayer-funded institution two options.

It could let the student parties cross-examine each other, which would be cheaper but could subject students to "further harm or harassment." Or it could let their "agents" handle cross-examination, most likely lawyers, and either pay for representation itself or let students hire their own lawyers.

The university chose the cheaper option.

UMich is facing blowback from both pro-accuser and due-process advocates for implementing an interim policy that is considered even worse than the process struck down by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The unseen costs of 'climate crisis' alarmism are paid for by the global poor

global poor
We should celebrate young people's desire to do good and to change the world. We should also be aware of the disastrous impacts of "just doing something" when no one can foresee how the doing — or our own undoing — may unfold.

Young people are often heralded for their good intentions and their love of social causes. What we're less experienced with, like all humans, is multiple-stage planning — the kind of forethought it takes to anticipate not just what to do, but the unintended consequences of doing it.

The issues we're most passionate about — or afraid of — are the hardest to see clearly. For example, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was dismissive of those who point out "the costs" of combating climate change.

Her certainty that anticipated problems years down the road necessitate immediate sacrifice ignores the principle of unseen consequences. It feels good to advocate for immediate, sweeping change, but the costs — the trade-offs — of implementing long-term climate plans would be near-term tragedy for millions around the world.

Comment: The author has a point - even if she sometimes uses bad examples (like the use of cancer-causing pesticides) to make it. Without objective data and a perspective that isn't motivated by the feel-good emotions of "doing good", or a power and profit motive that lies behind many of those advocating for sweeping economic and environmental policies, people are quite likely to make quality of life worse for many.

Parkland father uncovers how district enabled deranged student-turned-shooter

Why Meadow Died
After the deadly Feb. 14, 2018, mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., national media focused largely on a handful of student activists, leaving it to victims' parents to unravel why the slaughter happened. Andrew Pollack, whose daughter, Meadow, was one of the 17 killed, conducted his own investigation to uncover the roots of what he calls the most avoidable mass murder in American history. He and Max Eden are co-authors of "Why Meadow Died: The People and Policies that Created the Parkland Shooter and Endanger America's Students." This adapted excerpt, based on never-before-released educational records of the shooter, Nikolas Cruz, shows the Broward County school district knew full well about his obsession with guns and murder — and then let him practice shooting at school.

Haaretz editor's true opinion: 'For the Palestinians murder is a type of sport, perhaps a substitute for erotica'

Benny Ziffer editor haaretz bigot zionist
© YouTube/HaaretzHaaretz editor Benny Ziffer outs himself as a murderous Zionist bigot
This is what the editor of Haaretz's Culture and Literature supplement, Benny Ziffer, wrote on his Facebook page upon returning from paying a condolence call in the settlement of Ofra:
"En route I looked at the Palestinian villages alongside the Jewish communities, and I thought of how for the Palestinians murder is a type of sport or enjoyment, perhaps a substitute for erotica. From that perspective we will never have anything culturally in common with them."
And if that weren't enough, Ziffer also wrote, "Regarding this evil and undignified people living among us, we can only yearn for the land to vomit it out, because it isn't worthy of this land, which is full of Jewish blood that it has spilled."

Now, let's leave alone for a moment the fact that much more Palestinian blood was spilled in this land than Jewish blood in any given year since Zionism came to power in Palestine about 100 years ago. Gideon Levy's article in Haaretz elaborated on that fallacy in Ziffer's post, stating that If There's Such a Thing as a Murderous Culture, Then It Exists in Israel.

Comment: At least Ziffer has outed himself with his vile statements. Rational people will now know to keep an eye on him.

The State of Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services approved the formation of Superbia Credit Union, the first ever not-for-profit credit union by and for the LGBTQ community.

Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield), said, "State law doesn't protect Michigan's LGBTQ community from discrimination in the workplace and public accommodations. ... It's burdensome that gay and trans Michiganders must depend on private businesses to take it upon themselves to provide equal treatment to employees and consumers."

A 29-year-old Iranian woman has died after setting herself alight after being charged for trying to attend a men's soccer match.

Sahar Khodayari, a soccer fan nicknamed "The Blue Girl" after the colors of her favorite team, Esteghlal, died in a Tehran hospital, Iranian media reported on September 9.

Unconfirmed reports suggested that she died over the weekend but that her death had been announced on September 9 after her burial under tight security measures in the holy Shi'ite city of Qom.

Khodayari's death comes days after she poured gasoline on herself and set herself alight outside a court on September 2 where she had been summoned after being charged following an attempt to enter a sports stadium to watch a soccer game.

Comment: Iran certainly isn't doing itself any favors by maintaining backward reactionary policies in order to 'keep out the West'. Such rigidity just bolsters Western propaganda against Iran. Yes, it appears that this poor woman did have a mental health history, but it is the duty of government to provide reasonable care for its citizens.

UFC could be forced to dump Octagon girls after politician moans that women parading in bikinis at fights is 'outdated'

ufc girls
THE MUCH-LOVED Octagon Girls could be banned from a UFC event in Australia next month after a politician claimed the tradition was "outdated".

Similar to boxing, mixed martial arts deploys scantily-clad females to parade around the cage prior to each round at their events.

That has led to the likes of the beautiful Chrissy Blair, Brittney Palmer, Arianny Celeste and Jhenny Andrade all becoming huge favourites with fight fans across the globe.

However, ahead of UFC 243 at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium on October 6, Dana White's promotion is facing calls for the "sexist and backward" custom to be axed.

And Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp is leading the charge.

Comment: The politician clearly has no idea who the UFC target audience is. It's absolutely not outdated to use attractive women to keep the attention of young males. Also, a female politician wants to eliminate jobs for women. That doesn't sound very feminist, does it? Virtue signaling at the expense of the very people you are supposedly trying to help makes no sense. Welcome to the feminist reality!

Russia now has more assets than debt, despite sanctions

Thanks to steadily growing gold and foreign currency reserves, Russia's debt-to-GDP ratio has turned negative for the first time since its economy was hit by Western sanctions and by the oil market crash of 2014.

As of August 1, the state debt (at the federal, regional and municipal level) amounted to 16.2 trillion rubles (around $247.3 billion). At the same time liquid assets of federal government, regions and non-budget funds stood at 17.6 trillion (nearly $268.8 billion).

It means that the state debt in broad terms became lower than the nation's holdings, according to calculations by the Russian business outlet RBC, based on figures from the country's central bank and the ministry of finance. As a result of this, Russia would be able to fully cover loans issued by both external and domestic creditors using only the state deposits kept by the Central Bank of Russia and local commercial banks.

A high-ranking member of Belgium's Flemish nationalist party has appeared on the roof of a city hall in Antwerp to deliver a message about what he called a latent "occupation" by Muslims.

Filip Dewinter, leader of the right-wing, anti-immigration Vlaams Belang party in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, uploaded a video of himself standing on the rooftop and giving a quick history lesson before making his case.

The city hall in Antwerp "has been around since 1565," Dewinter said, emphatically adding that over five centuries it was occupied "by the Romans, the Spaniards, the French, the Germans and today by Islam."

According to the MP, every fourth Antwerp resident is Muslim, and "more than half" of schoolchildren come from Islamic families. "That must come to an end," Dewinter said, calling for a stop to the perceived "occupation of our city by Islam."

Feminist hysteria: Women to get cash advantage in new Ms. Monopoly game

A new version of Monopoly has women players earning more money than their male board game opponents.

In Ms. Monopoly, women start with $1,900 in Monopoly money, while men get just $1,500, according to USA Today, which was first with the news Tuesday of the revamped classic game. Women also get more moolah when passing "Go" throughout the competition.

"With all of the things surrounding female empowerment, it felt right to bring this to Monopoly in a fresh new way," Jen Boswinkel, Hasbro Gaming's senior director of global brand strategy and marketing, told the paper. "It's giving the topic some relevancy to everyone playing it that everybody gets a turn, and this time women get an advantage at the start."

Comment: Looks like equality only extends so far in the feminist world.
