Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to work out a plan to construct a bridge connecting Sakhalin Island in the country's Far East with mainland Russia.

"The question of building a bridge between Sakhalin and the mainland has long been discussed, for decades. It has long been a dream of the people living on the island," Putin said at a meeting with Sakhalin Governor Oleg Kozhemyako on Tuesday. Putin said he instructed the Russian government to work on the feasibility of the project.

The Russian president noted that this would make life easier for people: "You can come, leave at any time of the year, in any weather." Sakhalin is the only remaining region in Russia without a land connection to the mainland. Crimea was recently connected when Europe's longest bridge was built in May.

Family sues sheriff's office after man dies while in police custody and no one is charged with a crime

Native American Jorden Stevens, a member of the Cocopah Indian Tribe, died on February 15, 2017, while in the custody of the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) Adult Detention Center. Even though his death was ruled a homicide, not a single corrections officer has been charged with his murder.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office conducted an internal investigation but the details of their findings have not yet been made public. Now, Stevens' family-after more than a year of not getting any answers and having only the Sheriff's Office to blame-is planning on filing a lawsuit against the department for the death of their loved one.

Stevens was arrested for "disorderly conduct" and was taken to jail, but as he was leaving, a dispute between the 29-year-old and officers led to an escalation of force involving at least 10 YCSO officers. In newly released video footage of the attack, which lasted over 10 minutes, a gaggle of officers can be seen appearing to kick and punch Stevens, who reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury possibly leading to his death.

One inspector says: "We have to protect you against nudity, even if it is artistic in nature."

In an open letter, Tourism Flanders invited Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg to a meeting over "a cup of coffee or a Belgian beer" to discuss its regulations.

The letter read: "We have noticed that Facebook consistently rejects works of art by our beloved Peter Paul Rubens. Even though we secretly have to laugh about it, your cultural censorship is making life rather difficult for us."

The move comes after Facebook removed one of its ads featuring Rubens' famous Descent from the Cross painting.

The number of unsuccessful deportations from Germany has increased by more than 200 percent, as every second deportable migrant stayed in the country by not appearing for their expulsion appointment.

An internal evaluation by the federal police found that, as of the end of May, only 11,100 scheduled deportations had been successful out of a planned 23,900, according to the report by Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten.

Some 11,500 refugees were listed as "not found" on their appointed day, with the remaining 1,300 cases abandoned for various other reasons. Around 150 people stayed because pilots refused to take them, and in more than 500 cases, deportation was stopped because of "active or passive resistance."

Comment: Germany seems to be gradually losing control of the country. The social consequences will be enormous.

A waiter who served up a steaming, hot bowl of lies has admitted to the public that claims about a customer leaving him a racist note at work were fabricated. Khalil Cavil, 20, has now admitted that he wrote the note himself.

Cavil, who is a black Christian, found himself launched into the national spotlight after he shared a picture of a receipt on Facebook, which displayed no tip and "We don't tip terrorist" written across the top. His name - Khalil, which is of Arabic origin - was circled. The photo of the receipt showed the note written on the $108 bill. Cavil's employer, the Saltgrass Steak House, swiftly issued a life ban to the seemingly racist customer.

Saltgrass' Chief Operating Officer Terry Turney said in a statement following the July 14 incident that the steakhouse will "stand by and support our employee," adding that "racism of any form is unacceptable, and we have banned this customer from returning to our establishment."

Comment: When victimhood becomes weaponized, you get opportunists like Cavil who will make up a story in order to get attention and create the narrative of "oppression" that they think they live under.

Helsinki Trump Putin

U.S. President Donald Trump meets with President of Russia, Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, February 2018
Russia has lately been accused of numerous deadly sins, as politicians and media throw around scary-sounding but unverified stories and opinions. To help you plot a course in the roiling sea of Russophobia, RT has compiled a list.

With the Helsinki summit between US President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin hitting the news on Monday, this week didn't wait to erupt in headline upon headline of Trump and Russia bashing, including the long-sought "proof" of the Kremlin's interference in the US. Many of those were quickly adopted by the anti-Trump #Resistance for obvious political gain.

Comment: The MSM have gone full-blown hysterical after the Trump-Putin summit, with the manufactured outrage meeting epidemic proportions. Why would anyone, at this stage, believe anything they have to say?

A hydroelectric dam collapsed in southeastern Laos, leaving an unknown number of people dead and hundreds missing, state media said Tuesday. Rescue efforts were underway as top government officials rushed to the site and public appeals were launched for aid.

The official Lao news agency KPL said the Xepian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower dam in Attapeu province collapsed Monday evening, releasing cascades of water that swept away houses, flooded villages and made more than 6,600 people homeless.

The dam was made by a joint venture led by South Korean companies with Thai and Lao partners, and was still under construction. KPL described the portion that collapsed as a "saddle dam," which is an auxiliary dam used to hold water beyond what is held by the main dam.
