Normalizing the sexualization of children: Boy, 10, founds a drag club for kids in NYC

10-year-old Desmond Napoles from Brooklyn in New York City has founded the first drag club for kids
Drag clubs are nothing new in New York City - but it took a 10-year-old to dream up the first drag club for children.

Desmond Napoles from Brooklyn in New York City is better known by his drag name, Desmond is Amazing. Though still quite young, he first expressed an interest in dressing up in drag as a toddler and has become somewhat of a celebrity on the drag circuit.

And he is convinced that there are more kids out there just like him. So now, the precocious youngster is launching Haus of Amazing, the 'first and only drag club for kids,' where no adults are allowed.

When Desmond was younger, he would fashion bed sheets and towels into dresses and wigs, and would 'clomp up and down the hallway in his mother's high heels.'

'Ever since day one... ever since I was able to walk, I used to take my mom's towels and take her heels and clomp around the house. [I'd] put the towel on my head, wrap a towel around my body and walk the runway down my house,' he revealed to Out.

At age five, he liked to play with toy trains, maps, video games, and Barbies but when he was six, an Elsa from Frozen costume changed everything - and Desmond started asking his parents for princess costumes or dresses when they were out shopping.

Admitting that they were concerned about how other people might perceive their son, Desmond's parents consulted a therapist for advice on what to do.

Following days of violent unrest gripping Iran, tens of thousands of people flocked to streets in the country's major cities in a massive show of support for the government and the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.

Massive pro-government rallies kicked off on Wednesday in different towns and cities, including Ahvaz, Kermanshah, Bushehr, Abadan, Gorgan and Qom, local media reported.

Chants of "Leader, we are ready!" and "We offer the blood in our veins to our Leader" were heard as images provided by state media showed thousands-strong crowds waving Iranian flags and a holding placards that read "Death to seditionists."

Demonstrators then shouted anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans which Iranian media said "welcomed the turmoil and voiced support for the riots."

Dutch Teacher Abuses 13-year-old Girl, Court Acquits Him of Rape Because 'No Question of Violence'

A teacher of the Terra College in Assen, The Netherlands, who sexually abused his 13-year-old pupil and mentee has been jailed today for 30 months, which includes a 10 month suspended sentence. Last month the prosecutor sought a rape acquittal, as 'there was no question of violence or threat of violence'. This case follows in the footsteps of two separate rape cases in France last year when two men were acquitted of the same crime, as the French court was of the opinion that their victims - two 11-year-old girls - had consented.

The website SPECTR reported:
The events took place in 2009. A 22-year-old man took an 11-year-old girl to the park in Champs-sur-Marne, in the vicinity of Paris. He undressed her, asked her to lie on the ground and had sexual relations with the child. Despite her young age the girl became pregnant. She gave birth to a son in 2010.

In light of the facts the prosecutor asked an 8-year sentence. However, the court acquitted the man. As there was no question of coercion, nor threats or violence - the French legal criteria for rape - no unlawful act was committed, or so the judge argued. Therefore, the girl would have consented implicitly to the sexual act in the park, at least according to the court in question. [...]

The case is also remarkable as a very similar news item came to light in the end of September 2017. At the time the French prosecutor decided not to prosecute a 28-year-old pedophile for rape of another 11-year-old girl. Again, it was argued that the girl in question had not resisted, so one could speak of "consent". However, the lawyer who represented the girl said that the girl "[...] had been terrified and had felt ashamed" and therefore, had not uttered a sound.

Woman in viral video wearing glitter over her breasts getting groped by man says shaming women for what they wear "promotes rape culture"

The young woman who was filmed attacking a man who groped her at a New Zealand music festival has vowed to go topless again.

Now Madeline Anello-Kitzmiller, 20, whose breasts were covered in just glitter when the man grabbed her, has said shaming women for what they wear "promotes rape culture".

Comment: A woman walking around naked in a public space does not have the right to claim that anyone who holds her accountable for what happens to her is promoting rape culture. They are promoting logical outcomes of social behavior. Walking around naked at a music festival full of people imbibing in alcohol and drugs can really only lead to one outcome. For her to think otherwise is just ridiculous logic.

Footage from the Rhythm & Vines festival in Gisbourne, New Zealand, showed Madeline and friend Kiri-Ann Hatfield following the man and repeatedly punching him.

Now in a defiant video blog posted on Facebook, the American-born woman says: "The glitter t**s will be coming back."

Recyclables piling up as China applies new standards

Trash Pile
© Jason Margolis/PRI
Ben Harvey of E.L. Harvey & Sons has stored about 3,000 bales of paper in the past month that he’d normally be shipping to China. At $60 a bale, it equals about $180,000 of unsold product, about 10 percent of the company’s revenue.
After you collect your cans, bottles and paper, then put them out by the curb, do you ever think about where everything goes after the truck picks things up? Largely, it goes to China.

Every day, nearly 4,000 shipping containers full of recyclables leave US ports bound for China. China sends the US toys, clothes and electronics; in return, some of America's largest exports back are paper, plastic and aluminum.

But that equation is changing as of Jan. 1 - China is enforcing its new "National Sword" policy, which bans 24 types of solid waste, including various plastics and unsorted mixed papers, and sets a much tougher standard for contamination levels.

China notified the World Trade Organization about the ban in July, essentially saying the country would no longer act as the world's trash dump. Currently, China consumes 55 percent of the world's scrap paper and is a major destination for other recyclables.

The National Sword policy follows China's "Green Fence," a 10-month policy the country enacted five years ago, which set initial standards for lower contamination levels for recycling.

The ban will undoubtedly hurt recycling operators in China that rely on the import of raw materials. But delivering a cleaner China is paramount for Communist Party politicians.

'Bitcoin banned by Islam': Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam issues fatwa against cryptocurrency

The Egyptian Grand Mufti has issued an official fatwa, banning bitcoin which soared in value over the $20,000 mark in December. Trade in cryptocurrency is similar to gambling, which is forbidden in Islam, he said.

The fatwa was issued after consultations with several economic experts, Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam said on Monday, as cited by Ahram newspaper. Egypt's legitimate bodies do not consider trading a virtual currency like bitcoin to be acceptable, he said, and the use of cryptocurrencies "impinges on the state's authority in preserving currency exchange."

The mufti compared cryptocurrency's trade exchange to gambling, which is banned in Islam "due to its direct responsibility in financial ruin for individuals." The cleric said that bitcoin could negatively affect the legal safety of those who trade it, and lead to an "ease in money laundering and contrabands trade."
