Ultra-orthodox London Jews raise ยฃ1 million to go after "evil" secular parents

An ultra-orthodox Jewish community in London has launched a ยฃ1 million fundraising bid to finance legal battles against parents who want to take their children into secular society.

More than half of the fund was raised at a single event at the Bobov synagogue in north London, it is understood.

The money is reportedly used to pay for some of Britain's "top barristers" to fight legal battles against parents who leave the close-knit Charedi community.

Some 1,500 people attended the fundraising meeting, called Rescue the Children Convention, in the Stamford Hill area of London.

A local rabbi wrote a letter in support of the event, stating the community wished to fight cases involving 17 children.

Comment: We can't argue against the claim that secular UK society is evil. But the implication that the Charedi community is any better is just too much. When the child's mind is fully developed, they can choose for themselves. But community members and leaders know that's a dangerous proposition: by that time such youths raised secular may have developed a capacity for critical thought. Thus, the heavy handed manner in which their continued membership is ensured. And it's not just children: Ultra-orthodox Jew sect bans "dangerous" higher education for women

Labor Day: Americans have nothing to celebrate

Labor Day
As Bill Clinton lines up for shameless photo shoots in preparation to march with organized labor down Michigan Avenue in Detroit this morning, Americans have very little to celebrate this holiday.

Americans are forced to choose between two people who've done nothing to support domestic job growth and who personify government created class separation. On one end is the ostensibly socialist Clinton who's a cheerleader for NAFTA and the TPP โ€” two job killing pieces of tyrannical legislation. And, on the other end is Donald Trump, who pretends to be for American jobs while gaming the U.S. visa system to hire temporary foreign workers and pay them pennies on the dollar.

In case you haven't noticed, no matter which puppet is in office, the upside down funnel over the country continues to suck everything upward. The commoners keep eating shit and grinning, while the government-connected elite continues to fleece the population through a rigged system.

The ruling elite in the United States quite literally hand-pick politicians and pay for their campaigns to put them in office. More than half of all donations provided to the 2016 presidential candidates, in both parties, proves this notion as they came from a mere 158 families.

The 158 families, who've donated billions of dollars to these candidates, have entirely different reasons for choosing their politicians versus Joe Sixpack. Consequently, it is for this reason that Joe Sixpack's requests are completely ignored by the next puppet to be placed in office who claims to represent him.

Remember this Labor Day - Martin Luther King's last campaign was for workers' rights

Most Americans today know that Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. was killed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968, but few know why he was there. King went to Memphis to support African American garbage workers, who were on strike to protest unsafe conditions, abusive white supervisors, and low wages โ€” and to gain recognition for their union. Their picket signs relayed a simple but profound message: "I Am A Man."

Today we view King as something of a saint, his birthday a national holiday, and his name adorning schools and street signs. But in his day, the establishment considered King a dangerous troublemaker. He was harassed by the FBI and vilified in the media. He began his activism in Montgomery, Alabama, as a crusader against the nation's racial caste system, but the struggle for civil rights radicalized him into a fighter for broader economic and social justice.

As we celebrate Labor Day on Monday, let's remember that King was committed to building bridges between the civil rights and labor movements.

3 veteran officers give their take on how to reduce police violence

police car
Footage of American police officers shooting individuals who are unarmed, or armed only with blades, has sadly become all too common. What adds to the tragedy and anger is the fact that other tried-and-tested approaches are available to deal with many of these situations without loss of life.

The shoot-first instinct that seems so pervasive among many US police is in stark contrast to law enforcement tactics in other countries. British police, for example deal with a large number of edged-weapons attacks but almost never open fire (they don't generally carry guns). Just as there are countless online videos of trigger-happy US police, there are numerous recorded examples of UK cops intervening in violent situations without firing a shot.

In one 2014 incident, for example, Albuquerque police attempting to arrest a mentally ill man for "illegal camping" opened fire on him with assault weapons when he drew a tiny blade at a great distance from the heavily armed officers. Their approach is summed up by the fact that they then handcuffed him as he lay dying on the ground. A good contrast is a 2015 video of officers in Corby, England wresting a knife from an attacker using only pepper spray and batons at close range.

Comment: One tactic not mentioned: Weeding out the pathological types to keep them from joining the force in the first place. However, considering that police are simply tools of the state and enforcing control is their job, this will likely not happen.

Two people have been shot dead and at least three others injured after violence erupted at a celebration of Caribbean culture in Brooklyn.

The killings happened despite an increased police presence at the annual event which has a history of violence and dates back to the 1920's.

The violence broke out in the early hours of Monday morning during J'ouvert, a pre-party celebration held ahead of the annual West Indian Day Parade.

A man, believed to be in his 20s, was shot in the chest in Crown Heights shortly before 4a.m., according to NBC New York. He was taken to hospital but died from his wounds . Less than a half an hour after that shooting, a 22 year old woman was shot in the head just one block away. She also died in hospital.

United States women's soccer international Megan Rapinoe became the latest sports star to join Colin Kaepernick's anti-racism protest on Sunday, choosing to kneel during the national anthem before Seattle Reign's NWSL game against the Chicago Red Stars.

Kaepernick's protests against perceived racial injustices have caused controversy across the US, with the San Francisco 49ers quarterback widely criticized for his actions.

His latest refusal to stand for the Star-Spangled Banner came last Thursday when the 49ers played the San Diego Chargers. Teammate Eric Reid joined the protest.

Young blacks don't trust Hillary Clinton, worrying democrats

When a handful of liberal advocacy organizations convened a series of focus groups with young black voters last month, the assessments of Donald J. Trump were predictably unsparing.

But when the participants were asked about Hillary Clinton, their appraisals were just as blunt and nearly as biting.

"What am I supposed to do if I don't like him and I don't trust her?" a millennial black woman in Ohio asked. "Choose between being stabbed and being shot? No way!"

"She was part of the whole problem that started sending blacks to jail," a young black man, also from Ohio, observed about Mrs. Clinton.

"He's a racist, and she is a liar, so really what's the difference in choosing both or choosing neither?" another young black woman from Ohio said.

Comment: It's no longer voting for the lesser evil. People don't want to vote for either candidate - it's that bad.

The Moroccan government, in cooperation with the German authorities, will create as many as 600 solar-powered mosques in the country by March 2019 in a bid to boost public awareness of renewable energy sources, The Guardian reported on Monday.

Energy-saving lighting, photovoltaic electricity generation and solar water heating will be installed in about 100 mosques by the end of 2016 if everything goes according to the government's plan. "We want to raise awareness and mosques are important centers of social life in Morocco. They are a place where people exchange views about all kinds of issues including, hopefully, why renewables and energy efficiency might be a good idea," the Guardian quotes the project's chief Jan-Christophe Kuntze as saying.

Morocco's Ministry of Islamic Affairs, in coordination with the German government, have pledged to cover up to 70 percent of the investment costs.

A woman breaks into a home in Brownstown Township and attacks a disabled man.

Police say she tortured him to get the pin number for his debit card - and now she's facing life in prison.

Investigators say 34-year-old Nicole Lytton, went to great lengths to get the ATM code from her victim - including beating, strangling and using a weapon to get what she was after.

That victim was a 63-year-old man who is disabled from a stroke who lives in the Tanglewood mobile home community - which by most accounts is a quiet peaceful place to live.

New Zealanders keen to ditch the Queen

New Zealand looks to be drifting closer to becoming a republic, as a new poll reveals a majority of Kiwis want to ditch the Queen as their head of state in favour of a New Zealander.

The poll by campaign group NZ Republic shows about a third, or 34 percent of Kiwis, want to carry on with a British head of state. A substantial majority of 59 percent want to sever the country's centuries-old ties with Britain.

Forty-four percent want a directly elected New Zealand head of state and 15 percent want a leader elected by MPs.
Undecided voters remained unchanged on 7 percent over the last three polls.

Just over two years ago, 44 percent of New Zealanders asked the same question wanted a change from the Queen.
