2 people shot dead in Black Friday madness

At least two people have been killed in shootings at three malls across the US, as 'Black Friday' - the biggest shopping day of the year - kicked off after the Thanksgiving holiday. Shoppers all over the country brawled over coveted merchandise.

The day after Thanksgiving signals the start of the Christmas gift shopping season. The name supposedly refers to profits that put retailers' accounts 'in the black.' On the downside, many shoppers wanting early access to popular products sometimes literally fight each other for the privilege - sometimes to the death.

Three suspects have been arrested after a shooting at the Wolfchase Galleria mall in Memphis, Tennessee, police said. Multiple vehicles were hit by gunfire, and one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses told WHBQ-TV that "at least 40 shots were fired."

A woman and child have been killed by a gas cylinder explosion at the Moria refugee camp on the Greek island Lesbos. Angry migrants then set the camp on fire and clashed with police.

The blast happened as the woman was cooking in a tent on Thursday, AFP reported citing police.

The 66-year-old woman and the six-year-old child were killed, while the child's mother and a four-year-old sibling were wounded and sustained severe burns.

Following the accident, dozens of frustrated refugees set the camp on fire, with flames spreading quickly and causing significant damage.

The video shows the raging fire and clouds of black smoke.

The man accused of gunning down nine parishioners in a racially-motivated attack at a historic Charleston church is mentally competent to stand trial, a judge has declared.

Dylann Roof could face the death penalty if convicted of murdering nine people inside the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, South Carolina in June last year.

It's alleged Roof specifically targeted a bible study class at the church, with the South Carolina native also accused of writing a 'manifesto', in which he talked about planning a mass shooting in Charleston because is has the "highest ratio of blacks to whites in the country."

Some stores are starting Black Friday sales early, and that means that pandemonium is starting earlier, too.

Video from a Walmart in Bainbridge, Georgia shows shoppers fighting to grab every last towel from the display.

Multiple women stacked up as many towels as they could before they were gone.

Meanwhile, Houston Walmart shoppers tussled over a $99 12-Volt kiddie convertible.

Comment: If Americans behave this outrageously over unnecessary items, it is a shuddering thought to consider their potential reactions at a time when food and other basic necessities of life become scarce.

Metropolitan Police attacked by 30 schoolchildren in London brawl

Footage has emerged of a group of children attacking two police officers in south London, punching them in the face and stamping on one officer's head after he fell to the ground.

The incident, which took place on November 9 in New Cross, involved a male and female officer and has been described as "truly shocking" by the Metropolitan Police Federation.

The children had gathered outside a school in New Cross to witness a fight between two female students, arranged and publicized on WhatsApp.

Coming mere months after an officer was stabbed in Hyde Park while attempting to intervene in a huge water fight involving 4,000 teenagers, this latest incident is an indication of increasingly fraught relations between London's police force and its youth.

This latest skirmish began when a girl from Hatcham College and another from Deptford Green School had arranged to fight after school, according to the Sun.

Western media silent as millions of Muslim pilgrims gather in mourning, denouncing all forms of terror

The Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of the third Shia Imam -Imam Hussein- is located, is swarming with millions of devoted Muslims, both Shiites and Sunnis, for mourning rituals marking Arbaeen, known as the largest religious gathering in the world.

Given the mainstream media's constant sensationalized reporting on terror and Muslims in the Western world, the utter lack of coverage of Arbaeen's march on Sunday and Monday revealed the double standard that exists in reporting on peaceful Muslims.

Monday marked the final day of the mourning for Imam Hussein who was martyred in a battle with the massive army of Yazid after refusing allegiance to the tyrant caliph. Yazid the caliph of Umayyad dynasty was promoting the same type of Islam as ISIS and Wahhabist preach today.

Millions of marchers participated in the annual Arbaeen Procession in Karbala. The marchers are said to come from over 60 countries, and most of them have marched all the way to Karbala from other Iraqi cities like Najaf and Baghdad in a show of devotion. Each year, Sunni Muslims and followers of other religious groups such as Christians join the journey to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.

A University of British Columbia professor who last week denounced a Toronto colleague for inciting hatred against a "precarious minority" of transgender people now stands accused of bullying heterosexual and bisexual students in her classroom.

Dr. Mary Bryson was speaking at a University of Toronto forum last Saturday about recent amendments that add "gender identity" and "gender expression" as protected grounds to the Canadian Human Rights Code and the Criminal Code.

Frustrated by the media and administration's one-sided response to Jordan Peterson's October 11 free speech rally, a group of concerned University of Toronto students gathered together to draft a response. It's a brilliantly written letter that outlines the racism, violence, and defamation they were subjected to for daring to publicly speak their views on political correctness.

The students have challenged the university to respond to their mistreatment, demanding that the administration takes a non-partisan approach to political conflicts and take action to once again make the University of Toronto a safe place for people to express their thoughts. Posted below is the full text of their powerful open letter:

An Open Letter to the Administration of the University of Toronto

First of all, we would like to commend and thank you for agreeing to host the series of debates proposed to you by Professor Peterson. We believe that this is a step in the right direction, and are looking forward to witnessing what constitutes an example of a free and reasoned exchange of ideas on campus. We believe that fostering a climate where all topics, no matter how controversial, are up for intellectual exploration is one of the fundamental functions of a post-secondary institution, and, as such, we applaud the University's decision to host the debates.

Nevertheless, we continue to be disturbed and appalled by the incidents that took place at the Free Speech rally on October 11, 2016, and, most of all, by the University's response to the aftermath of the event. We came to the rally to express our views in a respectful manner; we were instead silenced by members of the UTSU and the Black Liberation Collective (BLC), then slandered by members of these same groups, and finally left aghast at our administration's failure to protect students' fundamental rights and freedoms and their decision to muzzle Professor Peterson.

2,000 migrants clash with police, set Bulgaria's largest refugee center on fire

Law enforcement and riot police have been deployed to Bulgaria's largest migrant and refugee camp, located in the town of Harmanli, after violence erupted in the center. Inhabitants damaged the facility setting the premises on fire.

More than 2,000 people clashed with police at the camp in southern Bulgaria, close to the Turkish border, on Thursday, local news agency Novinite reported, citing Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

Hundreds pour into Standing Rock ahead of Thanksgiving

Hundreds of people continue to pour into the front-line Oceti Sakowin Camp, despite calls from the Mayor of Bismark to those opposed to the Dakota Access Pipeline to return home for Thanksgiving. Marcus Lloyd (Ngāti Porou) who is at Standing Rock says the people here won't leave, instead more vehicles are arriving in support the Standing Rock's Sioux tribe.

People continue to stand in solidarity, despite pleas to leave.

"People are not leaving, they're coming in droves, and vehicles have been arriving all day, all night. This morning there was a group of 600 that arrived, and they're still coming in now," says Lloyd.

The message was put to protesters yesterday by Bismark Mayor Mike Seminary following Sunday's confrontation with armed authorities, where more than 500 were arrested.

Mayor of Bismark Mike Seminary says, "It's now time for them to go home to their loved ones and their families, enjoy whatever holidays are important to them. And let us go about the process of rebuilding some likely damaged relationships locally."
