Cop is re-hired after beating K9 on video and groping multiple women

Brett Arthur Berry
In April of this year, Ramsey County Deputy, Brett Arthur Berry was fired after he was charged and convicted of assaulting a public safety dog and animal cruelty for severely beating his dog at a K9 training seminar. In spite of being found guilty and being sentenced to a year of probation, this 'model cop' was quietly rehired earlier this month.

In June of 2015, surveillance footage from the Black Bear Casino in Carlton, where the seminar took place, captured this sadistic officer as he beat, strangled, and hurled his K9 partner to the ground.

In spite of the video evidence showing his cruel behavior, Berry was allowed to keep his job for almost an entire year after the incident and wasn't fired until April 2016 — months after he'd already been sentenced.

However, last month, an arbitrator overruled the sheriff's office's attempt to fire him for the conduct and forced the department to take back this dog beating cop.

"These kinds of incidents tarnish the badge," Ramsey County Chief Deputy Jack Serier said of Berry's behavior, apparently unable to fight the decision of the arbitrator. "It's very much a difficult situation."

"There are times when someone does something so egregious that you have no choice but to take very harsh discipline," Serier said.

Hovsep Avesyan, a 27-year-old white Armenian man, is facing multiple charges for allegedly brandishing a firearm while using ethnic slurs to verbally assault two Muslim women in what is thought to be a road rage incident.

The Delaware County Daily Times reported police responded to a Wawa parking lot in Upper Darby on Nov. 22 after getting a call from a 44-year-old Muslim woman and her 25-year-old daughter.

The women said that a man began yelling ethnic slurs and pulled up his jacket to reveal a firearm as soon as they pulled into the parking lot. "You heard me," the man allegedly said. "Go back to where you belong. Go back to Africa. If you didn't hear me, let me come closer," the man said while walking quickly toward the women with the weapon visible, according to the police affidavit. "F*ck you," he added.

The two victims told officers that they were so terrified that they removed their head veils because the suspect continued to make gestures at them after he walked into the store.

Our only hope! Filipinos working abroad say they're returning to a better Philippines

Supporting Duterte from afar
Ever since Rodrigo Duterte became president of the Philippines in May, Ces, a 32-year-old Filipino domestic worker in Hong Kong, said she feels "very happy to go home."

That's because Duterte has done something to stamp out one of her biggest fears about flying back to Manila: "bullet planting." Airport officials would extort huge bribes from travelers, after surreptitiously inserting bullets in their luggage and then detaining them for illegally carrying live ammunition. One Filipino domestic helper on her way back to her job in Hong Kong fell victim to the trap last year.

"I carried my bag like a baby," Ces, who has worked in Hong Kong for two years after a stint in Kuwait, said of her previous trips home. Last year when she went home she kept pictures of Duterte, then the mayor of Davao City, in her bag so that anyone who opened it would be afraid.

Duterte's bloody crackdown on drugs and insults of former allies have sparked criticism, but his staunch support of the rights of Filipinos working overseas—known as Overseas Filipino Workers, or OFWs—has won him widespread support from the community. They were key to him clinching the presidential election in May, and, interviews with over a dozen workers in Hong Kong show, remain among his most loyal fans.

They're also one of the country's economic engines. Over 10 million Filipinos working abroad send back billions of dollars every year, contributing around 10% of the country's GDP.

Comment: Whether Duterte can deliver on all his ambitious promises remains to be seen, but by aligning with China and Russia, he has already set a course for future economic growth, peace and stability.

The world's tallest waterslide is to be torn down following an investigation into the death of a 10-year-old boy.

Caleb Thomas Schwab, the son of a US politician, suffered a fatal injury on the slide at Kansas City's Schlitterbahn water park in August this year.

An anonymous source told reporters the boy had been 'decapitated' in the incident, which is still being investigated.

The slide, standing at 51.38 metres (168ft 7in), had been officially verified by Guinness World Records as the tallest waterslide in the world. Its name, Verrückt, is German for 'Insane'.

The water park issued a statement on Tuesday saying: "All of us at Schlitterbahn have been heartbroken over the tragedy that occurred on Verrückt.

A loud "explosion" (patlama) that was reportedly heard across the city of Gaziantep in southern Turkey is believed to have been a sonic boom, officials say. The boom was also heard across other parts of Gaziantep province.

The incident happened at about 11:20 p.m. local time on Friday when residents in Gaziantep reported hearing a loud explosion. The blast shook the area and was heard across the city, as well as other parts of Gaziantep province.

A large number of ambulances and other emergency services were dispatched to respond to reports of an explosion, with some reports suggesting that an explosion had taken place in the area of the University of Gaziantep. Nothing was found.

Several hours later, the governor's office said in a statement that the boom is believed to have been caused by a fighter jet that broke the sound barrier. There were no reports of damage or injuries, the governor said, and smoke that was seen in Gaziantep was not caused by the incident.

Toronto Police Service Detective Constable Lisa Belanger (L) and Inspector Joanna Beaven-Desjardins of the Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes Unit (R) announce hundreds of arrests in a global child exploitation investigation Project Spade on Nov. 14. at a press conference at Toronto Police Headquarters.
Nearly 400 children have been rescued and 348 adults arrested following an expansive and "extraordinary" international child pornography investigation, Canadian police announced Thursday.

The three-year project, named Project Spade, began when undercover officers with the Toronto Police Service Child Exploitation service made contact with a Toronto man allegedly sharing "very graphic images" of child sexual abuse in Oct. 2010, Toronto Police Service Chief William Blair said at a press conference on Thursday.

Police said their investigation revealed an entire child movie production and distribution company in Toronto operating via the web site azovfilms.com. The site was run by 42-year old Brian Way, according to police, and sold and distributed images of child exploitation to people across the world.

Comment: #PizzaGate was just the most recent example of pedophiles getting exposed, this incident form 2013 shows us that this is an on-going problem.

A religious officer canes a woman for spending time in close proximity with a man who is not her husband in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, on November 28, 2016
An Indonesian woman screamed in agony Monday as she was caned in Aceh, the latest in a growing number of women to be publicly flogged for breaking the province's strict Islamic laws.

Aceh is the only province in the world's most populous Muslim-majority country that imposes sharia law. People can face floggings for a range of offences -- from gambling, to drinking alcohol, to gay sex.

In the latest caning, five people -- two women and three men -- were flogged in front of a cheering crowd at a mosque in the provincial capital Banda Aceh.

The 34-year-old woman who yelled in pain had been found guilty of spending time in close proximity with a man who was not her husband in contravention of Aceh's Islamic regulations.

She was lashed seven times with a rattan cane by a man wearing long robes and a hood, with just slits for the eyes.

Around 900,000 routers across Germany were hit by the outage which started on Sunday, a company spokesman told DPA on Monday.

The routers connect customers not only to the internet, but also to telephone and television services. The spokesman explained that the problem was not with the network itself, but rather with identifying routers upon dial-up.

Egyptian specialists have defused two improvised explosive devices planted under a bridge in one of the districts of the capital of Cairo.

According to the Sada El Balad broadcaster, the suspicious objects, which were later confirmed as explosive devices, were found near the Boulak al-Dakrour district.

Police are reportedly searching the area.

Earlier this month, reports emerged that the Daesh terrorist group, which is outlawed in Russia, was preparing to relocate itself from Iraq and Syria to Jordan, Turkey and Egypt. According to the Moroccan Center for Strategic Studies (CMES), around 1,200 Egyptians have joined Daesh ranks since late 2014.
