Extinction Rebellion: Imagine if these people had real power?

‘Shut the country down’: British climate group Extinction Rebellion heads to US.
THOSE who can make you believe absurdities,
can make you commit atrocities."
- Voltaire

"MUCH that passes as idealism is disguised
hatred or disguised love of power."

- Bertrand Russell

"THE urge to save humanity is almost always a
false-front for the urge to rule it."

- H.L. Mencken

Climatism posts often begin with poignant quotes from past philosophers, scholars, academics, poets. Not only as a link to the subject matter, but as a guide to past thinking that can engender clues to our current existence and provide insight for future pathways.

This author is staunch in the belief that global warming climate change has absolutely nothing to do with the 'environment' or "saving the planet".

If it did, every climate change activist, such as Extinction Rebellion, would be castigating China for unlimited emissions until 2030, as per their Paris Accord commitment.

Meet the black, transgender Cinderella's godmother you've all been waiting for (or so the woke media tells us)

Who's really clamoring to see a black, transgender fairy godmother on cinema screens? Certainly the liberal media. But do audiences really care for woke remakes of childhood classics?

Is there any phrase more guaranteed to ruin a sweet childhood memory than "a modern re-imagining of..."? Especially when 'modern' means 'sanitized' and 'injected with pointless social-justice twaddle.'

Enter the black, transgender fairy godmother. According to Hollywood Reporter, Emmy-award winning actor Billy Porter will play the role in Sony Pictures' upcoming remake of the 1950 Disney classic, alongside Cuban-American actress Camila Cabello as the titular princess. Billy Porter, for the uninitiated, is a gay man.

So commonplace is the woke makeover these days that the news was greeted with nothing but syrupy enthusiasm from the media. "Billy Porter Should Absolutely Be Cinderella's Fairy Godmother," gushed Vanity Fair, to the deafening squeals of a hundred "Yass Kween"s in the comments section.

Rapper MIA speaks to the media outside Belmarsh.
Singer MIA has joined the call to demand the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange after visiting him in London's high-security Belmarsh prison.

The rapper and songwriter - real name Mathangi Arulpragasam - is one of a number of celebrity supporters who have been to see Assange since he was sent to Belmarsh earlier this year after spending seven years in the Ecuadorean embassy in the capital to avoid extradition.

Asked how the whistleblower was faring, the musician said: "It's difficult to describe... he shouldn't be in there."

Male-bodied rapists are being imprisoned with women. Why do so few people care?

Davina Ayrton

Featured image: Davina Ayrton, a violent male-bodied British sex offender who identifies as a trans woman, was jailed in 2016 for raping a 15-year-old girl. Davina was named David at the time of the crime, but has indicated a desire to be housed in a female facility.
In 2015, the British Association of Gender Identity Specialists (BAGIS) submitted a written brief to the Transgender Equality Inquiry, which had been undertaken by the UK Parliament's Women and Equalities Committee, explaining why it was "naïve to suggest that "nobody would seek to pretend transsexual status in prison if this were not actually the case."

"There are, to those of us who actually interview the prisoners, in fact very many reasons why people might pretend this," wrote Dr. James Barrett, the President of BAGIS. "These vary from the opportunity to have trips out of prison through to a desire for a transfer to the female estate (to the same prison as a co-defendant) through to the idea that a parole board will perceive somebody who is female as being less dangerous through to a [false] belief that hormone treatment will actually render one less dangerous through to wanting a special or protected status within the prison system and even (in one very well evidenced case that a highly concerned Prison Governor brought particularly to my attention) a plethora of prison intelligence information suggesting that the driving force was a desire to make subsequent sexual offending very much easier, females being generally perceived as low risk in this regard."

The idea that many male offenders would opt to serve their sentences in women's correctional facilities is not something that should shock a thinking person. But it appears that common sense is forgotten once the words "gender identity" are invoked. Male offenders, including violent offenders and sex offenders, currently are incarcerated in women's prisons in various western jurisdictions. This policy has been adopted in numerous countries under the guise of tolerance. Recently, Ireland had its first transfer, when a fully intact male sex offender was placed in a women's prison in Limerick. The California Senate also recently voted in favour of such accommodations. This policy often is referred to as "self ID." It means that your status as a male or female is determined by your belief (or claim) about your sex and not by your actual biology.

Riots return to streets of Ecuador's capital despite curfew, Moreno sends in the military

Anti-austerity protesters are burning fires and building barricades in the city of Quito, despite Ecuador's President Lenin Moreno imposing and then delaying a curfew, while sending the military to deal with the unrest.

Live footage from RT's video agency Ruptly shows groups of protesters gather opposite police lines, many of them clutching improvised shields. Some even organized tortoise formations, using boards to try and deflect tear gas grenades and rubber bullets. Shots and explosions could be heard ringing in the air, as thick smoke clouded the scene.

El Arbolito Park, which is not far from the National Assembly previously stormed by protesters, has become the epicenter of the protest, with people from different towns and villages streaming there to set up a protest camp.

Chaos in Ecuador as protesters ransack govt buildings, clash with police as military restricts movement throughout country

Ecuador's President Lenin Moreno has declared a curfew and sent in troops to force protesters off the streets of the capital Quito. He also agreed to assess the cancellation of fuel subsidies that had triggered the unrest.

Moreno has announced that he's introducing a curfew and the "militarization" of Quito, starting at 8pm GMT on Saturday. "This will facilitate the use of public force in the face of intolerable excess of violence," he said on Twitter. Ecuador's armed forces also announced late on Saturday that movement around the country would be restricted for 24 hours.

Due to "the complexity of the situation," Moreno will take another look at Decree 883, which has enraged citizens, Quito Mayor Jorge Yunda Machado announced on Twitter.

The move was one of the austerity measures introduced by the government in order to meet the conditions of a $4.2 billion loan deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Moreno later said that he would assess the impact of the cuts, but didn't indicate whether he was planning to repeal it.

The president also offered to begin talks with protest leaders to settle the crisis, and they have accepted his invitation.
ecuador
The protesters, mainly represented by Ecuador's indigenous people, set the Comptroller General's Office on fire and ravaged the parliament building, breaking windows and throwing furniture into the street. The demonstrators also blocked all roads leading to Quito International Airport.

It was the capital's 10th straight day of unrest, which broke out after the government announced austerity measures. The suspension of fuel subsidies saw the price of gasoline spike from $1.85 to $2.39 per gallon, while diesel prices went up by a staggering 123 percent - from $1.03 to $2.29.

China will stop broadcasting NBA games after Commissioner defends Hong Kong 'freedom' tweet

China has suspended its broadcasts of the NBA after the league's commissioner defended a team executive's freedom to express support for the Hong Kong protests.

In a tweet posted last Friday, the Houston Rockets' general manager, Daryl Morey, posted a graphic containing the logo of Stand With Hong Kong, an activist group that has called for foreign intervention in the city.

Morey deleted the tweet and sought to distance his opinions from those of the Rockets or the NBA — but the damage had already been done, as the Hong Kong protests are deeply unpopular in China.

Several of the team's Chinese sponsors and partners — including the state broadcaster China Central Television and the livestreaming platform Tencent Sports — immediately said they would stop broadcasting Rockets games.

Allegations of China 'organ harvesting' stem from front groups of far-right cult Falun Gong

falun gong

Falun Gong protest European Parliament 2016
A wave of corporate media reports on Chinese organ harvesting rely without acknowledgement on front groups connected to the far-right Falun Gong cult, whose followers believe "Trump was sent by heaven to destroy the Communist Party."

Western corporate media outlets have gone wild with claims that the Chinese state is "harvesting" the organs of ethnic minorities and political opposition figures. But an investigation by The Grayzone has found that these allegations originate from front groups run by the far-right opposition cult Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, whose devotees can often be seen clad in yellow and performing coordinated qi gong routines in crowded city centers, runs an ultra-conservative, staunchly pro-Donald Trump media network that has been compared to Alex Jones' Infowars.

According to a former member of the fringe religious group, Falun Gong believes that an apocalyptic judgement day is soon approaching and "that Trump was sent by heaven to destroy the [Chinese] Communist Party."

'Not qualified': State senator wants judge who jailed man for missing jury duty off the bench

Judge
"Not qualified to make a fair and impartial decision," is how Florida State Senator Bobby Powell described the judge who sentenced a 21-year-old man to 10 days in jail for missing jury duty.

"The thought that a judge would sentence a young man who had no previous history or incident with law enforcement to jail time, I was outraged," Powell, who has filed a formal complaint against Judge Kasternakes, told ABC News. "I know him, I know this young man for many, many years. When I saw his picture on the front page of the local paper, I was very much not only hurt and disappointed but heartbroken. I'm at a loss for words about how I felt."

"We've all made mistakes. You would think, 'OK, if I go to court, the judge sees me in court,' what's the worse thing you think could happen? When Deandre went back to court he had on his work uniform, we thought the judge would see he is working and see he is a good young man," Powell said.

Deandre Somerville, who said he overslept the day he was required to be a juror, served all 10 days behind bars. He was also ordered to be put on probation for a year, complete 150 hours of community service, pay a $223 fine and write a letter of apology to the court. After the sentencing prompted outcry and disbelief from the public and criminal justice experts, Kasternakes vacated the ruling and declared Somerville "totally rehabilitated."

Russians urge reinstatement of death penalty after brutal murder of 9-year-old girl

A prisoner serving a life sentence in a Russian prison.
The murder of a school girl in the city of Saratov has become such shock for Russia that politicians and the public united in calls to lift the moratorium on death penalty to punish child killers and pedophiles

9-year-old Lisa went missing on her way to school on Wednesday, with hundreds of volunteers joining the search for the child. The girl's body was discovered the next day, hidden at a garage of a 35-year-old man, who later confessed of a murder.

The news caused uproar in the city on the Volga River as people took to the streets and blocked a police car, in which they thought the detained suspect was transported. The crowd demanded him being handed over them to be lynched on the spot, forcing the officers to employ pepper spray.

MP for the ruling United Russia party, Evgeny Primakov, was first to suggest that "capital punishment must be brought back" as he commented on chilling reports from Saratov. The deputy said he couldn't understand why should the money of taxpayers, including the parents of the victim, be used to fund the criminal's stay in prison.
