Congresswoman Diane Black joins calls to remove judge in Stanford rape case

Congresswoman Diane Black
Tennessee Republican representative: "I'm appalled."

Congresswoman Diane Black (R-Tenn.) is the first to admit that her background is in health, not law, but she has joined calls for the removal of the California judge who sentenced a Stanford rapist to just six months in county jail.

Judge Aaron Persky ignited national controversy when he sentenced 20-year-old Brock Turner, a swimmer at Stanford University, to only six months in jail for his conviction on three counts of felony sexual assault after he raped an unconscious woman behind a dumpster. Persky, a Stanford alumnus, argued that a prison sentence would have a "severe impact" on Turner.

"I'm a nurse, not a lawyer, but as someone who has treated survivors of assault and seen the grim realities of this crime in very personal ways, I'm appalled by Judge Persky's lenient sentence," Black told TheBlaze. "I believe this decision is shameful and is grounds for his removal from the bench."

Cop rages against driver who caught him texting while driving

cop road rage, cop texting driving
A motorcyclist out for an afternoon ride last week found himself on the receiving end of a retaliatory police stop after honking his horn to warn a motorist who was texting and driving.

While on his drive, Devin Jones saw a person texting on their phone who was impeding the flow of traffic, so he decided to honk his horn and let the driver know to put down his phone.

Colorado Governor, Bill Ritter, signed House Bill 09-1094 in June, 2009 banning the use of cell phones for drivers under the age of 18 at all times. In addition, texting, emailing and twittering are banned for all drivers.

"Put the **** phone down," says Jones after briefly laying on the horn and motioning to hang up a phone. For a split second, Jones thought he was doing the community a favor by warning the driver. However, the driver he'd just warned was a cop.

In an angry flash, the officer was in Jones' face and unleashing his fury. Laughably, the officer accused Jones of road rage.

Kerri Little wanted to address bullying and other issues during her valedictorian speech at the Bellwood-Antis High School graduation. But, feeling censorship pressure from school officials, she skipped the ceremony and took her concerns to social media.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Little said she could not give a formulaic graduation speech that provided positive messages, fond memories and life lessons. That's because, based on what her and her friends had experienced, there were a lot of unaddressed problems at Bellwood-Antis High School in Blair County.

The biggest problem was bullying.

"We don't have a lot of resources in terms of bullying," said the 18-year-old. "Which is awful, but with budget cuts and the amount of funding our school has, it's more important to have an English teacher than it is to have a bullying specialist on hand."

Comment: It seems Ms. Little's parents have raised her to be a thinking, compassionate human being. The world needs so many more of them.

Police scandal spreading: Woman claims sex with dozens of officers from different Oakland departments

The Oakland police sex scandal is ricocheting across the East Bay as the woman at the center of it now says she had sex with two dozen current and former officers from five departments -- from Richmond to Livermore. And sources say that Oakland police's botched handling of the investigation is what precipitated Chief Sean Whent's sudden departure this week at the behest of the federal monitor overseeing the department.

In a telephone interview on Saturday, Celeste Guap, a Richmond resident, said she slept with three of the 24 officers -- all from Oakland's police department -- before she turned 18 last August.

She also said that two Oakland officers provided her confidential police information, including tips on scheduled anti-prostitution stings, and a retired OPD captain in his 80s paid $250 to have sex with her in a dingy San Pablo Avenue motel. The captain and several other officers named by Guap did not return calls for comment.

Guap, whose real name this paper won't publish because she met the officers as an exploited minor caught up in sex work, said she didn't lie about her age to them. "A lot knew I was underage because they nicknamed me 'juve,' which is short for juvenile," she said.

In perhaps the most surprising allegation -- one that might help explain Whent's sudden dismissal as chief -- Guap said she also talked via Facebook last June to his wife, Julia Whent. Julia Whent, she said, knew "I was dating an officer" but never asked if she was underage.

Huge banner hung in NYC pays tribute to Russia's achievements

Russian banner in NY
In New York City's Manhattan a huge banner was put up by unknown people. The banner read "Russia. Imagine a world without her." A picture of this banner was published on Facebook by a user named Jared Bateman.

The banner was put up on the eve of Russia Day, which was celebrated on June 12.

The banner was hung from a bridge in High Lane Park and listed some of Russia's achievements over the past few decades.

The most prominent achievements included the victory over Nazi Germany, the flight of Yuri Gagarin into space, the invention of the television by Vladimir Zvorykin and the military operation against Daesh terrorists in Syria.

As strikes look to increase in France, garbage and resentment pile up

France garbage strikes
The mound of torn black garbage bags spilling rubbish was stacked waist high under an elegant 16th-century carved turret.

All up and down the Rue Hautefeuille, a medieval street in the heart of the Left Bank in Paris where the poet Charles Baudelaire was born at No. 13, uncollected trash poked up from the hefty municipal garbage bins lining the narrow paved sidewalk.

In the city's mean season of terrorist attacks, floods, unending demonstrations and work stoppages, a days-old garbage strike was the latest insult just as the weather warmed and noisy fans poured into France for the European Championship soccer tournament. No end is in sight.

Russian football 'ultra' to AFP: 'We flew to Marseilles just to beat up the English'

english hooligans marseille
English fans, as they always do, set up camp and bait locals, opposing supporters, and the police to 'come and have a go if you think you're hard enough'. A handful of Russians decided to take them up on their offer...
A Russian fan who took part in widespread pre-match violence has declared "the English are girls" and hundreds of hooligans attend Euro 2016 to fight.

This comes as French prosecutors announce some 150 Russians were behind the violence ahead of the 1-1 draw with England in Marseille.

Comment: That was all? There were up to 150 THOUSAND English fans!

Only a small percentage of those, of course, were hooligans, but they nevertheless vastly outnumbered their Russian counterparts.

There can be no doubt though that a majority of English fans were involved in provoking the Russian ultras once inside the stadium. Listen to them try to drown out the Russian national anthem:

Russia are just 29th in world football rankings but are fighting for top spot in the hooligan stakes thanks to the efforts of characters like Vladimir, a Moscow public relations manager who considers violence a sport.

Vladimir, who is married with two children, has returned from the battleground at the European Championship finals in France, and does not care that Uefa have threatened to disqualify Russia.

Comment: Although Western media attention has shifted to the aftermath of the massacre by mystery shooters in Orlando, the English press is having a field day 'exposing' the 'brutal Russian thugs who hurt our friendly football fans'.

And it's true; a small number of Russian 'ultras' beat a lot of English heads in southern France at the weekend. After 3 days - and 3 decades before that - of being their usual obnoxious, violent selves, the horde of drunken and abusive English hooligans finally met their Waterloo.

And now the English press is having a conniption...
Russian aggression! Russian invasion! Russian state-support! Putin's ninjas!
Like everything else about the Anglo-American Order, they can dish it out, but they can never take it.

SOTT Exclusive: The cruelty of capturing dolphins and orcas and using them for entertainment

dolphin captive
© UnknownCan you imagine being in a small concrete enclosure for your life when you're used to swimming 40 miles a day?
On Monday June 6th American activist Richard "Ric" O'Barry appeared on the Dutch talk show RTL Late Night and spoke about how miserable dolphins (and other sea mammals) are in marine mammal parks. O'Barry first started out as a dolphin trainer for the Miami Seaquarium, and helped with the capture of dolphins. At a later point, he trained the five dolphins who starred in the TV show Flipper. Based on his years of experience training these intelligent sea mammals, he concluded that capturing dolphins and training them to perform tricks is wrong.

During the talk show, O'Barry said:
Host: When your dolphin, Flipper, as we call her, died in your arms, was that a turning point when you decided: "Okay, I don't want to be a trainer anymore, I want to be an activist"?

Ric O'Barry: It was a tipping point, but I had very strong feelings that led up to that. Because I was literally living with the dolphins for seven years. [...] You really get to know them, you get to know their body language. You can tell they're depressed. You're not fooled by that dolphin's smile anymore. That dolphin's smile is nature's greatest deception.

A good example is the Hagenbeck - zoo which is closed, by the way, because protesters were there every Sunday - where Sinbad one day jumped on the stage, like they do, and had a heart attack and died right on the stage. But the audience doesn't know that information. They see a dolphin laying on the stage just like that [points at a picture of a 'smiling' dolphin] with a big smile, and they're applauding a dead dolphin. It's just an example of how this industry is based on this optical illusion that dolphins smile.
In front of O'Barry sat Niels van Elk, marine biologist and vet of the Dolfinarium (marine mammal park in Harderwijk, the Netherlands). According to van Elk, when dolphins play in the Dolfinarium or in another zoo, it indicates that they are doing well, because if they didn't feel that way, they wouldn't play. O'Barry replied saying that these dolphins from captive breeding in the Dolfinarium have "never seen a live fish in their lives, they don't know what the current is, they don't know what the tide is, they think that the ceiling is the sky." He emphasized that "these are 'freaks' we've created for our amusement."

Flicking the paranoia switch: Orlando shooting targeted so many of America's faultlines

orlando mass shooting
© Joshua Lim / APBrett Morian, from Daytona Beach, hugs an attendee during the candlelight vigil at Ember in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday, June 12, 2016.
As relatives grieve and a nation mourns, America's political class will pick through the wreckage of the heinous events in Orlando and try to frame the tragedy in a way that suits their agenda. Those who hoped a tragedy of this nature might be extracted from partisan politics will be sorely disappointed.

The facts are sparse and shifting. This has been classed as a domestic terrorist attack that appears to have involved a Muslim and several firearms, including an assault-style weapon, in a gay club - an attack that left at least 50 dead and more than 50 injured in a swing state in an election year. As such it sits on several faultlines at a particularly volatile moment in US politics. All will be judged by their responses; some will seek political advantage. All are in some way vulnerable; none will readily admit that.

President Barack Obama described the attack as "an act of terror" and "an act of hate" and said the FBI was investigating it as an act of terrorism. "We will go wherever the facts lead us," he said. This may not be enough for some."

Comment: The very fact that the Orlando mass shooting simultaneously targeted pretty much all of America's faultlines points to the psychology of those behind it. We're not looking at wayward chance here; we're looking at someone or something that knows Americans better than they know themselves.

This is the terrorists (the actual ones) once again 'hitting the paranoia switch', as psychologist Martha Stout describes in her seminal work, reviewed here:

Limbic Warfare and Martha Stout's "Paranoia Switch"

As the police uncover more information on Orlando mass shooter Omar Mateen, it has come to light that his father is a rather curious media person. In a video uploaded to Facebook, he claims to be the President of Afghanistan.

According to Gawker.com citing the Washington Post, the shooter's father is Seddique Mateen, known under the alias "Mir Seddique." He is a man of strong political views and a former host of a political TV show that, on occasion, praised the Afghan Taliban.

Seddique hosted the "Durand Jirga Show," a political show on channel Payam-e-Afghan which broadcasts from California. According to videos found on YouTube and Facebook, Seddique, speaking the Dari language, occasionally praised the Afghan Taliban while denouncing the current Pakistani government.
