Haiti police say assassination suspect is middleman living in Florida

Police in Haiti say they have arrested a new suspect in the assassination of the country's president, Jovenel Moïse - a Haitian living in Florida who arrived on a private plane in June allegedly to act as a middleman between the alleged hitmen and the plot's unnamed masterminds.

As Haiti descended ever deeper into a dangerous political chaos, with notorious gang leader Jimmy "Barbecue" Cherizier calling on Haitians to "mobilise", the motive for the killing of Moïse remained unknown.

The latest suspect was identified by police as Christian Emmanuel Sanon, a Haitian in his 60s living in Florida who describes himself as a doctor and has accused his homeland's leaders of corruption.

"He arrived by private plane in June with political objectives and contacted a private security firm to recruit the people who committed this act," Haiti's police chief, Léon Charles, said, describing a private Venezuelan security company based in Florida called CTU.

The president's assassination triggered even more political chaos in Haiti, forcing authorities to approach both the US and the United Nations for security aid, asking them to deploy soldiers to guard infrastructure in the event of unrest, according to multiple reports.

While the US snubbed the request for troops, it has sent a team of various security and law enforcement experts to Haiti to help with the investigation.

"Today, an inter-agency team largely from the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are heading down to Haiti right now to see what we can do to help in the investigative process," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed on Sunday.

That's really where our energies are best applied right now - in helping them get their arms around investigating this incident and figuring out who's culpable... and how best to hold them accountable.

Over 300,000 demand inquiry into 'Biden family corruption'

Over 300,000 have signed a petition from one of Washington's top watchdogs demanding that a special counsel be appointed to investigate allegations that President Joe Biden and family members, notably budding artist and son Hunter Biden, have profited off public service.

Judicial Watch, which has documented Hunter Biden's travels on Air Force One and Air Force Two, said that 309,229 have signed its petition posted on Change.org, the latest indication that, at least among conservatives, questions about Biden and his father allegedly profiting in China and Ukraine won't go away.

Tom Fitton, Judicial Watch president, said, "There is plenty of substantial evidence, from documents and witness statements, that the Biden family, including President Joe Biden, may have been involved in criminal activity involving, among other issues, foreign entities tied to Ukraine and China."

The FBI issued an ominous tweet on Sunday which encourages "family members and peers" to "learn how to spot suspicious behaviors and report them to the FBI" in the name of national security.

The broadly-worded tweet from the same agency that confiscated an unassembled Lego model of the US Capitol as evidence against a Jan. 6 protester - suggests that family members are "often best positioned to witness signs of mobilization to violence." For example, your radicalized Antifa nephew is being encouraged tell the FBI that you might be a domestic terror threat because you own guns and told the family at Thanksgiving you don't like illegal immigration.

Greece mandates coronavirus vaccines for healthcare workers, bans dancing in bars

Many blame the Delta variant for Greece's recent uptick in cases.
The coronavirus vaccine will now be mandatory for all Greek healthcare workers, according to an announcement on Monday by Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The statement was part of a series of new measures regarding Covid-19 and the country's continuing plan for vaccinations on Monday.

Although he admitted that Greece would likely be hit hard by the fast-spreading Delta variant, Mitsotakis affirmed that he would not place the country under strict lockdown measures again.

"Greece is not in danger (of the virus), but unvaccinated Greeks are," Mitsotakis said, hoping to persuade those who had not yet received the shot to do so in order to protect themselves.


Comment: Those who have already contracted the coronavirus are also at a reduced risk, why is the PM not including them? Note that, as the last year has demonstrated, for the vast majority of people, the coronavirus is relatively harmless.


Comment: It's notable that a concerted effort by governments throughout Europe, including the UK, more recently France, has been to threaten healthcare workers with unemployment should they choose not to participate in the mass, experimental vaccine trial. This, even though the manufacturers themselves admit that the vaccines may only lessen the severity of any infection, but they do not fully prevent infection, reinfection nor transmission. A similar push to get all workers vaccinated was recently attempted in Moscow, it was however also rather quickly dropped, but not before the more easily influenced people rushed to get their jabs.

More than 60 people have died after a fire in a coronavirus isolation ward at a hospital in the Iraqi city of Nasiriya.

Much of Iraq's health care system is in poor condition after years of conflict and angry relatives of the victims have been protesting outside the facility.

The cause of the fire at the al-Hussein hospital is unclear, but reports said it began after an oxygen tank exploded.

Runaway censorship: YouTube is censoring 'normal discourse' and punishing those who fight back

YouTube is selectively enforcing its policies regarding 'disinformation' in what appears to be an attempt to silence content creators who oppose the platform's penchant for censorship, political commentator Matt Orfalea told RT.

Orfalea is speaking from experience: Last week he received a 'strike' and had his channel demonetized for allegedly violating the company's policy prohibiting "violent criminal organizations." The flagged video was a seven-year-old satirical fake Starbucks ad, which referred to the coffee chain's "insanely overpriced beverages for psychopaths." YouTube later admitted it had acted "in error" and dropped the strike.

Speaking to RT on Sunday, the YouTuber said he felt that he had been intentionally targeted by the company because of an earlier video he made in which he criticized the platform's attempts to censor discussions about ivermectin, a drug that some medical experts believe could be effective against Covid-19. Orfalea pointed out that it was puzzling why a video from nearly 10 years ago would suddenly pop up on YouTube's radar.

Thousands march in Cuba in rare mass protests amid economic crisis

The biggest mass demonstrations for three decades have rippled through Cuba, as thousands took to the streets in cities throughout the island, demonstrating against food shortages, high prices and communist rule.

The protests began in the morning, in the town of San Antonio de los Baños in the west of the island, and in the city of Palma Soriano in the east. In both cases protesters numbered in the hundreds.

With millions of Cubans now with mobile internet on their phones, news of the protests quickly swept to Havana. By early afternoon, thousands marched through central Havana, chanting "homeland and life" and "freedom".

"I'm here because of hunger, because there's no medicine, because of power cuts - because there's a lack of everything," said a man in his 40s who didn't want to give his name for fear of reprisals. "I want a total change: a change of government, multiparty elections, and the end of communism."

The protesters were met by uniformed and plainclothes police officers, who bundled hundreds of demonstrators - many of them violent - into police cars. Youths tore up paving slabs and hurled them at police; police used pepper spray and beat protesters with truncheons.

Comment: An already festering unrest in Cuba is compounded by US intervention via sanctions and protest propaganda:
The Cuban president has hit out at the US, alleging it played a considerable role in the first major protests on the island in years by encouraging dissent and causing shortages with its blockade.

Speaking on Monday, President Miguel Díaz-Canel blasted what he described as US interference in fiery remarks, condemning protests which erupted on the island a day earlier. Appearing alongside his cabinet in a televised national address, he stated that the people of Cuba have the right to defend their system and uphold the achievements of the revolution.

Responding to criticism over the country's current economic woes, which have been worsened by the pandemic, Díaz-Canel said that Washington's continuing sanctions against Cuba were causing the shortages, including a lack of medicines and power outages. Washington has pursued, he said, "a policy of economic suffocation to provoke social unrest in the country".

He also claimed there had been a clear and obvious campaign in recent weeks which aimed to provoke the people and undermine the achievements of the government. Díaz-Canel stated that there had been attempts to discredit the nation's handling of the pandemic in an effort to fracture national unity. The president said that the country was still faring well against Covid-19 despite a shortage of medicines.

Also speaking on Monday, US President Joe Biden gave his backing to the protest movement, saying that Cubans' "right of peaceful protest and the right to freely determine their own future must be respected". He said the Cuban government must hear the call of its people and "serve their needs at this vital moment rather than enriching themselves."

A rescue operation is under way after a hotel collapsed in Suzhou, China.
A hotel collapsed in eastern China on Monday, leaving at least one person dead and 10 others missing, the local government said.

Rescuers had pulled seven survivors from the rubble of the budget Siji Kaiyuan hotel in the popular tourist city of Suzhou, according to a statement on the city government's official social media account.

The Suzhou government said it was "sparing no effort to treat the injured", adding that authorities were investigating the cause of the disaster.

Comment: Whilst corruption surely is a significant factor in some of these incidents, one can't help but wonder whether at least some of them haven't also been hastened by the extreme weather and similarly related changes that are clearly on the rise:

For some years now, Wikipedia has had a libellous smear entry on me that cannot be edited to be less of a smear. So, imagine my surprise to learn a co-founder of the site accuses it of not being neutral.

In February 2021, Larry Sanger, one of the founders of the online encyclopedia, said, "The days of Wikipedia's robust commitment to neutrality are long gone." This was not his first time speaking out against Wikipedia. Personally, I was surprised to learn that Wikipedia was ever neutral.

In his more recent post, 'Wikipedia Is More One-Sided Than Ever', Sanger wrote:
"Wikipedia, like many other deeply biased institutions of our brave new digital world, has made itself into a kind of thought police that has de facto shackled conservative viewpoints with which they disagree. Democracy cannot thrive under such conditions: I maintain that Wikipedia has become an opponent of vigorous democracy."

Eric Adams, New York City's Democratic mayoral nominee and a heavy favorite to win November's election, said Sunday that cops who follow their department's rules should be shielded from lawsuits for actions on the job — except for "reckless" conduct like in the death of George Floyd.

"I support it with an asterisk," Adams, a former cop, said on CNN's "State of the Union," when asked about his stance on a potential federal measure on qualified immunity, which Democrats in Congress are mulling repealing as part of their police reform legislation.

Qualified immunity is a legal doctrine that shields government officials such as police officers from being personally liable in civil suits if they did not violate the law.

Comment: Adams appear to be a threat to the traditional NYC political machine. He's been targeted with some of some election shenanigans as Donald Trump was. Despite his seemingly measured law enforcement stance, Adams has made some concerning policy statements:
