NRA sues Florida over restrictive new gun bill shortly after Governor signed it into law

The National Rifle Association sued in federal court Friday to block a new Florida law, just signed by Gov. Rick Scott, that prohibits gun sales to anyone under 21.

"We filed a lawsuit against the state for violating the constitutional rights of 18- to 21-year-olds," said Marion Hammer, lobbyist for the NRA in Florida. NRA lawyers in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C., were working on the complaint Friday afternoon, and filed the complaint moments before the court's deadline.

Hammer had previously called the legislation "political eye-wash."

The suit was filed just over an hour after Scott signed the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act into law. He expected opposition from the gun lobby.

Writing The Canada Israel Nexus, I came across many ironies.
  • Israel is a country, but without borders,
  • it has created the largest refugee population in the world (6m Palestinians), rivaling its own diaspora (7m), both 'exiles' amounting to half their peoples. However, the Jewish diaspora is comfortably ensconced in the world economic elite or close to it, while the Palestinians mostly live in what amount to outdoor prison camps, or if lucky, snag a 'landed immigrant' status somewhere (there are 31,245 in Canada).
  • Israel admits it is an occupying force, which implies that it will, according to international law, care for its victims, and leave, leaving behind the civilians and their homes intact. But the occupation is unending (70 years and counting), Israel has never paid to provide sustenance to its prisoners, the civilians persecuted daily, in full site, and eliciting world condemnation. The EU foots the bill, as Israelis regularly bomb their meagre donations. The result — permanent occupation, theft and all the time more refugees.
  • Israel is a 'nation', but without a constitution. What?!
  • That brings us to the biggest conundrum — the bright blue Israeli passport. As with all passports, the key box is 'nationality'. So there is an Israeli nationality? Which means all Israelis are citizens of Israel, their nation? Right?

'Animal cruelty': Miami nightclub shut down for shocking horse stunt (VIDEO)

A Miami nightclub has had its business license revoked after footage surfaced showing a woman riding a horse onto a crowded dance floor. The lingerie-clad woman is seen being bucked from the clearly distressed horse.

The Mokai Lounge nightclub had its license revoked by Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales, after it was determined the Wednesday incident was an "actual threat to the public health, welfare and safety" of the city and amounted to animal cruelty. "I was disgusted and offended that any legitimate businessperson would think this was an appropriate action to take," Morales said in a statement.

The video shows a large white horse entering the middle of the nightclub with a woman riding bareback. The horse appears to slip and fall on the crowded dance floor, causing the animal to panic and begin bucking the woman off its back.

The Tulsa taxpayers will be shelling out $6 million after their officers held down an unarmed man, shot him, and then mocked him as he died-all on video.

The final tragic moments of Eric Harris's life were caught on video, as well as the sociopathic nature of law enforcement. On April 2, 2015, Harris was shot by a reserve deputy, apparently meaning to taser him, while on the ground being subdued by other officers. On Friday, the taxpayers were told they will pay $6 million to the estate of Harris.

The civil rights suit alleged that ex-Tulsa County Reserve Deputy Robert Bates was neither properly trained nor supervised and accused former Sheriff Stanley Glanz of turning a "a blind eye to these dangers ... to allow his friend and financial benefactor to 'play cop' in the streets of Tulsa County," as Tulsa World reported.

Comment: Yet another example of the police acting sociopathically towards the citizenry. No crime justifies a subdued suspect being shot and killed.

An FBI agent and his estranged wife were killed in Crownsville Wednesday morning in what Anne Arundel County police say was a murder-suicide on the day the two were expected back in divorce court.

Officers responded to a report of a domestic assault in progress in the 500 block of Arundel Boulevard at 8:05 a.m. Police said the caller had dialed 911 on behalf of another woman who "was being threatened by her recently estranged husband."

Upon arriving at the home, officers found a man and a woman outside a home who'd both been stabbed, the department said, adding that the man also had what looked to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Donna Fisher, 54, of Crownsville and FBI Special Agent David Raynor, 52, of Annapolis, were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

As non-Republicans continue their search for scapegoats to blame for Hillary Clinton's presidential loss to Donald Trump, a major focus of Trump skepticism has been 'fake news' allegedly peddled by Russia to electioneer the 2016 vote. To their credit, 13 trolls thought to be working for the Russian government were recently uncovered in a massive investigation by Robert Mueller.

It's anyone's guess how influential 13 Reds with a $100,000 Facebook budget for America's 6.8 billion-dollar election may have been, but perhaps the driver behind fake news is less nefarious than we've been led to believe: What if people are just gossiping, lazy, idiots? It appears that may be the case, at least according to a study published today in the journal Science about how fake news spreads on social media.

Comment: Irresponsible humans are to blame for the spread of Fake News - and many of those humans work for the mainstream media.

Last weekend in Berkeley, Calif., a group of neo-communist antifa - "anti-fascist" - thugs attacked peaceful protesters at a "No to Marxism in America" rally, wielding sticks and pepper spray, and beating people with homemade shields that read (I kid you not) "No Hate." The Post reports how one peaceful protester "was attacked by five black-clad antifa members, each windmilling kicks and punches into a man desperately trying to protect himself." Members of the Berkeley College Republicans were then stalked by antifa goons who followed them to a gas station and demanded they "get the [expletive] out" of their car, warning, "We are real hungry for supremacists and there is more of us."

The organizer of the anti-Marxism protest is not a white supremacist. Amber Cummings is a self-described "transsexual female who embraces diversity" and had announced on Facebook that "any racist groups like the KKK [and] Neo Nazis . . . are not welcome." The protest was needed, Cummings said, because "Berkeley is a ground zero for the Marxist Movement."

If you're a parent, you may have noticed that your daughter's friends seem a little more on the ball than your son's. They get better grades. They smoke less weed. They go to more prestigious colleges. If you're an employer, you may have noticed that your female employees show up on time, whereas the young men often don't. And of course if you live in this country, you've just seen a horrifying series of mass shootings, far more than we've ever had. Women didn't do that. In every case, the shooter was a man.

Two weeks ago, Newsweek Media Group Chief Content Officer Dayan Candappa said the company had just five weeks to turn around its business, or it might have to shutter for good.

"I wish I could varnish this, it would be an easier conversation to have," Candappa said in audio of the meeting obtained by The Daily Beast. "I think we can pull out of this, but we have to execute with the precision of a brain surgeon. Really, we have to do everything right."

In the private conversation with top editors on Feb. 21, lasting nearly 90 minutes, the CCO acknowledged a litany of what he described as "significant" financial problems the company faced.

An office raid by the Manhattan district attorney amid an investigation into the company's finances and ties to mysterious church-affiliated Olivet University have created a number of embarrassing headlines for the company, as had newly surfaced allegations of workplace harassment by Candappa when he was employed by Reuters (an internal probe at Newsweek cleared him).

President Trump highlighted extreme violence in video games with the help of a stomach-churning compilation including a video game massacre in a Moscow airport. Critics lashed out at the suggestion that gaming causes violence.

Featuring gore-filled clips from popular titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2; Wolfenstein; Dead by Daylight; Sniper Elite; and Fallout 4, the video montage was reportedly shown during a White House roundtable discussion attended by representatives from the video game industry, lawmakers, and video game critics.

According to the Washington Post, after playing the video for the roundtable attendees, President Trump asked the group: "This is violent, isn't it?"
