The blind leading the clueless

Gregory Mankiw

Gregory Mankiw, an economics professor at Harvard, interviews Janet Yellen
Most of us watch television. In part, we seek to be entertained, but, additionally, we often seek to be enlightened as to "what's going on." In a difficult era like the present one, in which some of the most prominent countries are experiencing the onset of an economic crisis, virtual cartoon characters are competing as choices in political contests, governments are becoming increasingly rapacious and a police state is developing rapidly, it's not surprising if the average person questions, "What on earth are they thinking?"

Well, there's no shortage of media exposure to answer that question. Today, there are a multitude of channels offering 24/7 "news," from which we may hope to glean some insight as to what the leaders of the world are thinking. Yet, in spite of the endless folderol being offered, the leadership vision remains about as clear as mud.

They don't want war, but are invading more countries than ever before in history. Political hopefuls are vague at best regarding their proposed platforms for action, yet they attack each other as though they're reporters for the tabloids. Governments continually speak of their wish to lighten the load on the common man, whilst heaping laws, regulations, fines and taxes on him like never before, and whilst heaping billions in tax dollars on their cronies in the financial industry. They claim to seek greater security for all, but instead, create an endless stream of agencies that have the authority to ignore basic rights and behave more like Mafia shakedown operators than law enforcers. Governments claim to be pursuing a sounder economy, but have created an unprecedented level of debt, that promises to crush the economies of several of the world's most prominent countries in the very near future.

Meet Jigsaw: Google's intelligence agency

google jigsaw
It's no secret that Google regularly collaborates with intelligence agencies.

They are a known NSA subcontractor. They launched Google Earth using a CIA spy satellite network. Their executive suite's revolving door with DARPA is well known.

In the wake of the January 6th Capitol event, the FBI used Google location data to pwn attendants with nothing more than a valid Gmail address and smartphone login:

A stark reminder that carrying a tracking device with a Google login, even with the SIM card removed, can mean the difference between freedom and an orange jump suit in the Great Reset era.

But Google also operates its own internal intelligence agency - complete with foreign regime change operations that are now being applied domestically.

And they've been doing so without repercussion for over a decade.

Facebook's desire for you to report your friends is the latest alarming step in its bid to take over the world

facebook
A test of a new feature that asks users to report friends they suspect may be becoming an extremist has been greeted with horror from Facebook users. It's a bizarre precedent that we should all be concerned about.

Over the past few days, some Facebook users have reported seeing prompts asking them if they are concerned that someone they know might be becoming an extremist. Other users are being notified they may have been exposed to extremist content as they were naively reading political articles or watching videos on the platform.

Screenshots of the alerts have surfaced on social media.

Understandably, the move has shocked users. US representative for Colorado Lauren Boebart ironically tweeted, "Facebook just warned me that I may have been subjected to extremist content and asked me to report anyone I may know that is becoming an extremist. I have more than 200 coworkers I need to report."

Who wanted Police to be defunded? Republicans release video of democrats pushing for it

Republican Study Committee circulates greatest 'defund' hits as Democrats try to flip the script
Ilhan Omar defund police
The largest House conservative caucus on Friday released a mash-up video of the many times progressives have called for defunding the police to push back on Democrats' latest efforts to accuse the GOP of being the party that wants to cut law enforcement funds.

The Republican Study Committee first shared with Fox News its nearly 1-minute compilation video of numerous instances where Democrats demanded to strip police departments of funding and to invest the money instead into communities of color and fighting systematic racism.

Senator Ed McBroom
"Benson recounts are not enough...We must examine ballots, tabulators, and chain of custody...All of it"

Michigan lawmakers have been told by leadership and by an unelected House lawyer to sit down and shut up over the election fraud that took place in the November 2020 election. They were willing to play the game until Senator Ed McBroom released his report on voter fraud.

Republican Senator McBroom, who sat through hours of testimony of Republican and Independent poll challengers who told stunning stories of witnessing potential voter fraud and intimidation by paid election workers and outside leftist agitators, claimed that he and his crack team of Senate investigators could see no evidence of massive voter fraud.

Comment: The evidence for fraud that poured out of Michigan in the wake of the 2020 election is overwhelming. It's a travesty and an insult to the voting public that the Michigan legislature has yet to act on it in any substantial way. Michigan Circuit Court Judge Kevin Elsenheimer would seem to merit extra attention:

Supporters of former South African President Jacob Zuma block the freeway with burning tires during protest in Peacevale, South Africa, July 9, 2021
South African police said on Saturday that 28 people had been arrested and one of the country's biggest highways remained closed over violent protests linked to former president Jacob Zuma's imprisonment.

Protests erupted this week in parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Zuma's home province, after the ex-leader handed himself over to police to serve a 15-month jail term for contempt of court.

On Friday, the high court dismissed Zuma's application to have his arrest overturned in a case that has been seen as a test of the post-apartheid nation's rule of law. An hour before the ruling, a Reuters photographer saw a group of protesters shouting "Zuma!" burning tyres and blocking a road.

Rasmussen Reports, one of the country's most reliable pollsters, found 58 percent of likely voters agree "the media are truly the enemy of the people."

Which means 42 percent of Americans are stupid.

The question doesn't mince words. Straight out, people were asked: "Do you agree or disagree with this statement: The media 'are truly the enemy of the people?'"

Thirty-four percent strongly agreed, 24 percent somewhat agreed, 13 percent somewhat disagreed, and 23 percent strongly disagreed.

Allow me to reframe this for emphasis...

Removal of Confederate statue in Charlottesville causes division, with protesters calling it an erasure of history

The removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville polarized Americans on Saturday, as the United States continues to take down monuments that are now deemed too controversial.

In 2017, the proposed removal of the statue led to the infamous Charlottesville Unite the Right rally, during which a protester against the event was killed during a car attack.

Now, nearly four years after the rally, Charlottesville, Virginia has taken down the statue, with Mayor Nikuyah Walker calling it "one small step closer" to making the US "grapple with the sin of being willing to destroy Black people for economic gain."

The removal was praised by some Americans, who called it "a great change" and called for the statue to be put in a museum or melted "into copper piping for a toilet." One person even called for the Confederate flag to be banned next.

Mogadishu car bombing kills at least nine people, says official

Security forces and civilians gather near the wreckage of the attack in Mogadishu on Saturday.
A suicide car bomb targeting a government convoy exploded at a busy junction in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, killing at least nine people and injuring eight others, a health official said.

The convoy was carrying a senior police official, Farhan Mohamud, who survived the attack on Saturday, the government news agency reported.

Al-Shabaab, which wants to overthrow the government and impose its strict interpretation of Islamic sharia law, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Dr Mohamed Nur, at the Medina hospital, told reporters that the toll reflected only the dead and wounded who were taken to the facility in Mogadishu where he works.

"I am sure the number is bigger as some of the victims were rushed to other hospitals, such as the privately owned ones," he said.

"The commissioner is unharmed but there are other casualties the attack inflicted," said Somali police spokesperson Sadiiq Dudishe.

He said the bomber, using an explosive-laden vehicle, struck the convoy of Mohamud, the Banadir regional police commissioner, at a busy intersection in the capital.
