With housing prices and wildfires driving residents away, the moving business is booming - bringing its own set of problems.
Record numbers of residents have been leaving California in recent years, but in 2020 the growth of remote work, the lure of cheaper housing and a summer of unprecedented wildfires has accelerated the trend. As a result, the moving business in San Francisco's Bay Area is booming, but the surge has come with its own set of problems.
Moving trucks are hard to find, prices to get out of the Bay are being pushed sky-high, and the supply side of the market - with high starting costs and because movers are required to obtain state licenses - has been slow to respond.
The shortage has created openings for an underground moving economy complete with scammers who take advantage of desperate California escapees, left without easy options.
Setting a copy of the Quran on fire in August didn't constitute incitement against an ethnic group, the Swedish prosecution has ruled, deciding to drop a preliminary investigation into the matter.
"It is not possible to prove that a crime has been committed, burning a Quran in itself is not illegal", chamber prosecutor Sofia Syrén told national broadcaster SVT.
According to her, the assessment was based on witness information and videos from the scene. While the Swedish media and most politicians equivocally condemned the Quran burning as a provocation, the prosecution found no legal grounds to press charges.
"Why do we dream? Freud's answer is deceptively simple: the ultimate function of the dream is to enable the dreamer to stay asleep." Slavoj Zizek (2006)Traditional Left Ideology sets out a vision of how the world 'ought to be.' The Left's view can be summed up as the belief that social justice is the primary requirement for improving the world, and that this better future entails the pursuit of equality in various forms. The Left ideologist believes that it is both ethical and moral to attempt to approach equality in terms of civil rights and material wealth.
But if the Left focuses on 'what could be,' the Right focuses on 'what is.' If the Left operates where people 'could be,' the Right operates where people 'are' or at least, where they believe themselves to be. The Right does not aim to change human social reality but rather to celebrate, and to even maximize it.
Left ideology, accordingly, is shaped like a 'dream.' Aiming for what 'ought to be' rather than 'what is' induces a level of utopian illusory detachment and depicts a phantasmal egalitarian world often removed from our abusive, oppressive and doomed reality. In this phantasmic future, people will just drift away from greed and gluttony, they will work less and learn to share, even to share that which they may not possess to start with.
Comment: We think that there's a good chance that the Left is in for yet another rude awakening. And another. And another...
This comes as the show doubled down on its effort to expose the left's attempts to steal the 2020 election from President Trump.
Comment: It sounds similar to the ongoing issues Joe Rogan is having with the platform. Rogan seems from the outside to be able to continue with his show unhindered. But Bannon, lacking the same massive audience, probably doesn't have the same pull, so he's canned.

A memory card that hadn't been uploaded in Fayette County, just south of Atlanta, was discovered during a hand tally of the votes in the presidential race that stems from part of a legally mandated audit to ensure the new election machines counted the votes accurately, said Gabriel Sterling, a top official in the secretary of state's office.
The memory card's 2,755 votes are not enough to flip the lead in the state from Democrat Joe Biden to Republican President Donald Trump. The breakdown of the uncounted ballots was 1,577 for Trump, 1,128 for Biden, 43 for Libertarian Jo Jorgensen and seven write-ins, Sterling said.
Election officials on Monday said Floyd County, in north Georgia, had found more than 2,500 ballots that hadn't been previously scanned.
Both counties will have to recertify their results, and the margin between Trump and Biden will be about 13,000 votes when those previously uncounted votes are accounted for, Sterling said.
Comment:
The most this recount will tell us is how close the original counting of votes was to the recount. Without a signature check, it will not invalidate the many votes which should have been validated originally. In other words, all they're doing is recounting potentially fraudulent votes. Trump has pointed this out, and he's right.
It will not be able to identify any other potential voter fraud that wasn't initially identified in the first count.
Then there are the problems with the recount itself. Project Veritas spoke with a ballot challenger who observed votes for Trump being called as votes for Biden:
Meanwhile, Wayne County (Detroit) in Michigan is not certifying their election results. The number of ballots does not match the number of voters. Big surprise. The discrepancies are minor, but even that might be expected when using an algorithm to assign fractional votes to candidates.
Haringey council issued multiple fines against Michli over his Zone Gym business and said it obtained a closure order. Alongside the £67,000 fine, Michli said the council was also seeking to recoup court costs of £7,500.
Michli, who has owned the gym for five years, said he felt keeping it open was "the right thing to do socially, morally and scientifically". "There were a lot of reasons why I didn't close. I couldn't actually find a reason why to not keep it open, other than there was legislation in place," he told PA news agency.

The communist government was imposing its will across the island, and picketers demanded the young telephone operator face a firing squad after she was accused of setting fire to Havana's largest department store. Terrified, she snuck out of her job at the telephone company where protesters were gathered and called her father, who paid $8,000 for someone to forge the date on her expired passport. She fetched some clothes and her diamond ring from an armoire in her home, kissed her newborn son goodbye and boarded a flight to Miami.
Alone and penniless, she began her life in the United States, working at a Miami Beach hotel, eventually becoming a banker and raising four sons on her own.
The 79-year-old refugee said her experience in Cuba drove her to become a Republican, voting for the GOP in almost every election since becoming a citizen in 1972. She never seriously felt that communism could follow her to the United States - until the 2020 presidential election.
"Student debt cancellation is a racial-justice issue," the Massachusetts Democrat declared on Monday on Twitter.
Pressley's tweet came amid increasing discussion of student loan debt after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said earlier this month that once Joe Biden becomes president, he would be able to extinguish $50,000 of student borrowings for each debtor through an executive order.
Pressley's suggestion that debt forgiveness should be tied to skin color was predictably rejected or mocked by conservatives, such as media critic Mark Dice, but failed to strike a chord with some Democrats, and the members of the community to which she was appealing.
Maxwell Little, political activist and former field organizer for Illinois Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker, pointed out that white students hold most student debt, so forgiving college loans would only increase the racial wealth gap. Paying reparations to American descendants of slaves "must be first," he said.

The pace of the exodus, some 4,000 a day, may also indicate "massive displacement" within the Tigray region, UN agencies said, saying teams on the ground were overwhelmed.
Ethiopia's prime minister warned on Tuesday that a deadline for rebel northern forces to lay down arms had expired, paving the way for a final push on the Tigray region's capital in a two-week conflict destabilizing the Horn of Africa.
"UNHCR is warning that a full-scale humanitarian crisis is unfolding as thousands of refugees flee ongoing fighting in Ethiopia's Tigray region each day to seek safety in eastern Sudan," Babar Baloch, spokesman of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, told a Geneva news briefing.
Comment: A little more context may provide some insight into the conflict:
There are widespread concerns that the fighting in Tigray could spread to other parts of Africa's second-most-populous country, and to the rest of Horn of Africa region.
Once the country's most powerful party, the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) that rules the Tigray region has been feuding with Prime Minister Abiy since he came to power in 2018 and promised reform nationwide.
The TPLF recently ignored a national ban on elections due to coronavirus. Abiy responded by calling their regional vote illegal.
"I am a white person and I am a top earner on Substack and it's very weird to me that some people don't wanna admit that white people do way way way better on Substack," journalist Emily Atkin tweeted on Monday, adding that maybe people should "figure out how to make it not that way."
Atkin also said that "pure raw talent" is not behind the success of many who have moved onto the platform.
